To be unreasonably annoyed at Royals at the pantomime

Gigheimer · 11/12/2020 23:24

I post knowing I’m totally unreasonable (probably) and you’ll all shout but I got both angry and sad and rage at seeing the press stories of Kate and Wills at the pantomime in the West End.

I’m normally a fan, and of course I don’t begrudge those cute kids a pantomime.

But my kids don’t get that this year, no Santa experiences, no pantomime no fucking nothing because we are tier 3 and if our local pub or theatre ever open again I’ll die of shock.

But we are in the North so who gives a fuck right?

I just have the absolute unreasonable fury tonight.

@SchrodingersImmigrant

Well I hope all of you are not doing anything what someone else can't do. 🤷🏻
Most of us are not part of the royal family allegedly representing us and this country...
OfaFrenchmind2 · 12/12/2020 11:50

God, people are so bitter and petty in this country. Whaa Whaa! Somebody has something I can't have! London is soooo bad!
You do deserve Brexit.

ineedaholidaynow · 12/12/2020 11:51

So what about the key workers who were there too, were they rubbing it in people’s faces too?

HitthatroadJack · 12/12/2020 11:52

Most normal people, the ones not twisted with bitterness, would have been pleased and excited by such a visit.

most normal people are not sheep and don't put the royals on a pedestal. Showing that all the kids from my local schools were offered a seat in a local panto would have been so much more pleasant to see.

I don't begrudge Georges, Charlotte and Louis to have a good time, they are just children. But they are in no way more special than any other, whose parents will be working on Christmas Day or still deployed somewhere on Christmas Day

Gwenhwyfar · 12/12/2020 11:58
@Gwenhwyfar do you think they put the panto on just for the Royal family so their children could see one?
No, I don't. I didn't say that either.

Loveyourideas · 12/12/2020 12:00

“It was about them showing support for both key workers and for the arts”

Did W&K fund the panto performance? Provide tickets to people who have had a terrible year? That would show real support. Perhaps they could fund a soup kitchen and serve the hungry. Much more meaningful way of saying ‘thank you’

ineedaholidaynow · 12/12/2020 12:03

@Loveyourideas how do you know they haven’t help fund something? And if they did people would probably complain that they were just using taxpayers’ money.

LindaEllen · 12/12/2020 12:03

Yes, it's been a shit year.

But the second you want everyone's year to be as shit as possible to match yours, you become a not very nice person.

I know lots of people who went on holiday this summer and posted pics. I was jealous. But did I rant and say they shouldn't have gone? No. In fact I was glad that someone managed to enjoy themselves even though it wasn't me.

Don't think about the royals. Think about the actors in the panto who managed to get in front of a live audience.

Just focus on your own life and don't let jealous bring you down.

pollylocketpickedapocket · 12/12/2020 12:03

@Eleganz

Surprised to hear people saying their are pantos in tier 3 areas. I presume these are open air productions?
Nope.
Gigheimer · 12/12/2020 12:04

Do you understand that this isn't a case of the government randomly picking on certain regions of the UK just because they feel like it?

No but it’s totally arbitrary. I actually saw a Santa coming soon sign outside school, they are coming in a sleigh for the kids, all very excited but I can’t go. Why? Because the school is in tier 2. A 10 minute drive from my rural no cases house. But I’m in tier 3, so taking the kids to school is essential and fine, but if I take them to have fun with Santa with all their friends I’m then breaking the law.

Tel me the sense in that?

Most of us are not part of the royal family allegedly representing us and this country...

And what a fine representation they are! Charles and Andrew really represent the population like a beacon of honesty, integrity and everything good and moral.

They're a disgrace! And if Andrew wasn't a prince he'd be inside by now.

GabsAlot · 12/12/2020 12:21

london will be in tier 3 come next week so i woldnt fret too much

i thought it was nice they atteneded

Janegrey333 · 12/12/2020 12:22

The children look grouchy - apart from George. Maybe they don’t want to go?

Maireas · 12/12/2020 12:23

Please don't comment on small children.
"grouchy"? Poor things, on their way to a panto and being judged.

Janegrey333 · 12/12/2020 12:24

He’s inside all the time these days - but I take your point. What an odious person he us

Janegrey333 · 12/12/2020 12:24

...he is.

Janegrey333 · 12/12/2020 12:25

MUST preview!

HitthatroadJack · 12/12/2020 12:27

in fairness, photos taken inside the panto shown the kids looking very cheerful, they just don't seem to enjoy the photographers, and who can blame them

Exactly who made you forum monitor? Hmm
Eleganz · 12/12/2020 12:27

That’s really not what’s happened. The National Lottery have supported many theatres across tier 1/2 by essentially buying the panto seats which they have to keep empty for social distancing reasons. The Palladium panto, which is running until January, is just one of them, and includes this one-off performance for key workers but it’s absolutely not a single event.

Could you point me to where the national lottery is specifically funding performances for key workers in the regions? I see they have provided some money to a large production company to support putting on pantos regionally but nothing about key worker events other than the one in London. I maybe wrong but I'm struggling to find anything about it.

They’ll have to get used to it.
Maireas · 12/12/2020 12:28

I did Xmas Grin

hellsbells99 · 12/12/2020 12:29

Wills and Kate were there in a work capacity.
My local theatre is still doing a Christmas show this year. Several of my friends have tickets.

mamaoffourdc · 12/12/2020 12:29

Pantos are on here - tier 2 - Christmas light displays are on, Santa visits are on - you are being over sensitive- they are not breaking any rules in their tier 🙄🙄🙄
