EU blackmailing the UK

houseinthesnow · 11/12/2020 05:31

So it comes to pass. The EU have decided unless we agree to their unreasonable demands they will halt all travel, including air and road travel whilst still fishing in our waters apparently!

It is nothing short of piracy.

The true nature of the EU has been exposed for some time, hence our departure - but now no one can be any doubt just to the levels they will sink to.
The EU have no interest in trade relations, nor cooperation, they only seek control and power. The trading relations is and was always, window dressing to create a superstate - and it seems they are now not afraid to inflict as much damage as possible to stop a member leaving.
Even the most passionate remainer will now see how deeply disturbing this behaviour actually is.

One could argue it is an act of war in fact.

It should be treated as such.

I will happily eat beans to the end of my days than be blackmailed by the EU. We all knew it would get nasty at the end, but who they knew they were capable of this. I suppose we can't be that surprised given the past. The gloves are off now for sure - and that goes both ways we should remind them.

Hard hats on.

@Zilla1

I for one can't wait until we create a better educational programme than Erasmus. It'd need a new name even though Erasmus taught here for a few years. Something everyone could rally around like Churchill though if it were Churchill, it might be an idea to have a back up name for any exchanges with India. It could share opportunities with Ascension, St Helena and the Falklands and within the UK. Students from the SE and Scotland and Wales could go to England's North too. Win win win.
Are you for real? Churchill was incredibly racist and guilty of war crimes.

He is hardly worthy of an international education program.

Penners99 · 11/12/2020 11:19

The EU can go to hell.

The UK is well shot of such a corrupt organisation

jasjas1973 · 11/12/2020 11:19

I would love someone from the EU to be interviewed by Andrew Neil and actually be scrutinised fairly and answer the question why can't we have tariff free trade like Norway and Iceland which would of course be of equal benefit as we import plenty of stuff from the EU? I can't seem to find the reason for them refusing, barring it being punishment for us leaving. It's like they're cutting off their noses to spite their face as my gran use to say

Norway is in EFTA, so is in the SM,
So it has signed up to the rules of the SM, the UK won't be.

Does that answer your question?

I can just imagine the outcry on MN if the 'United States of Europe' were to conscript all young men into Federal Service or worse, to go to war. I don't think many posters on here would be happy for their little darlings to go to war, would they?

So much is wrong with this. Do you know anything about NATO and collaborative global security created through the armed forces of many nations working together? Not actually much to do with EU at all.

You know most nations armed forces have women employed, don’t you?

You know the idea of a European armed force was just silly ramblings to scare off a few more voters?

Our own armed forces employ women. They work in collaboration with other nations who are committed to peace and global security. Our fighter pilots have been trained to fly French jets. Our aircraft carriers carry foreign planes.
Our military intelligence unit at Northwood is international and not led by a U.K. citizen.
Our armed forces working alone might manage to secure the Isle of Man, but aren’t big enough for much more because of cuts.

Would I send my son to war? No wars but conflicts in recent times. He’s deployed for a total of about three and a half years within six years of his Commission thus far.

@Littleideasbigbook

Nobody voted to make themselves poorer. Nobody. Come on.
Someone on this thread has said they did.
Zilla1 · 11/12/2020 11:21

@GetOffYourHighHorse, why can't we have tariff free trade like Norway?

Spot on and don't let any nay sayers fool you by saying Norway adopts all EU laws relating to the Single market wholesale. It can, in theory, choose not to adopt them. In this case theories count. And don't let anyone say how many £billions Norway pays for access. They pay in Euros or Norwegian currency.

Angryresister · 11/12/2020 11:22

I cannot believe still that anyone believes Brexit to be of benefit to anyone bar the hedge funds and extremely wealthy. The subsequent mess will be blamed on Covid . The pandemic will only make aterrible situation worse. I am relieved to be living in Europe but sad the population of Britain will suffer. There are no sunlit upland and the sooner this government is toppled the better.

DioneTheDiabolist · 11/12/2020 11:22

I would have loved Boris to have done this before the election.

CandyLeBonBon · 11/12/2020 11:24

That's it op. Chin up, gloves off. Let's show some good old Bulldog spirit. REMEMBER DUNKIRK and all that. Let's show them who's boss eh what?

merrymouse · 11/12/2020 11:24

To all the remainers, why is it do you think, that the EU will do a trade deal with Canada but not so a similar or even an equivalent deal with the UK?

Canada is 3,600 miles across the Atlantic.

The EU and the UK share a land border.

(I wonder if the root of many misunderstandings is that English people still fail to grasp the reality of the existence of the Republic of Ireland?)

ConfusedcomMum · 11/12/2020 11:24

Turkeys voted for Christmas and now the chickens have come home to roost...

Zilla1 · 11/12/2020 11:25

@Angryresister, there are several parties who pushed for Brexit and will benefit from it. To say it's just hedgies is unfair.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 11/12/2020 11:26

'Well yes, but also quite vulgar, and lacking in the nuance you need when dealing with headbanger loon Brexiteers'

Whatever happened to #BeKind Grin

They aren't 'loons' they just have different opinions to you.

Why won't the EU agree to a tariff free trade like they have with Norway and Iceland and like they initially discussed with May, does anyone have any ideas other than punishment? Why are some of you so desperate to be tied to these arrogant, unelected people.

Again, I voted remain but the way the EU are carrying on I think I'm glad we've left.

Littleideasbigbook · 11/12/2020 11:26

They said they voted to make themselves poorer? Then they clearly have cognitive difficulties. It was very clear, right from the start, that leaving an economic trade bloc would have financial implications. People just didn't think it would or could happen to them (us). Now it is and they are scared.

longwayoff · 11/12/2020 11:27

I take it this is a rare occasion, the Johnson has failed to cajole a woman to do as he wants. Anyone would think he'd paid for the dinner. Bet she didn't share a taxi back with him.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 11/12/2020 11:27

@ConfusedcomMum

Mixed metaphors are beautifully appropriate here Grin

Let's see if we can throw a few more in ... The UK never wanted pie in the sky, but it's cake and eat it.

Or is that a simile ?

DGRossetti · 11/12/2020 11:28

They aren't 'loons' they just have different opinions to you.

I can deal with that. It's the different facts that I struggle with.

DrBlackbird · 11/12/2020 11:28

How anyone can think it reasonable for the EU to have any control over the UK after we have left is in cloud cuckoo land.

I was in favour of the EU when it was a trading bloc. But not when they started telling us what to do.

Any FTA that the UK enters into will result in the UK 'being told what to do' and another country having 'control over' the UK. This will become very clear when if the UK and the US negotiate a FTA. The whole point to a FTA is agreeing to give up (some aspects of) sovereignty.

"A free trade agreement (FTA) or treaty is a multinational agreement according in international law to form a free-trade area between the cooperating states. Such agreements usually centre on a chapter providing for preferential tariff treatment, but also include clauses on trade facilitation and rule-making in areas such as investment, intellectual property, government procurement, technical standards and sanitary and phytosanitary issues."

MaxNormal · 11/12/2020 11:28

We’re leaving the EU what did people think would happen?

'Be kind' is a pile of bollocks. Its about as good as the Bloody Bus.

But then its all about the culture war where if you are a remainer you are a raving pro eu beri wearing blue haired leftie who loves to protest constantly.

Shucks sorry. Does not compute.

At least one has - presumably there are 51.9999999999% behind them ?

AnnnaBananna Fri 11-Dec-20 10:38:38

Meanwhile the Remain campaign was whinging on about economic consequences and ignoring people who were saying they were willing to pay that price if it stopped the migrants.
