OH thinks I'm a nutcase 😂

But in my defence...It's so pretty! It's from not on the high street.

Normally I'd buy from a normal shop but all the sets have been a bit rubbish this year and i have this weird thing where there has to be a colour scheme (I know I'm a lunatic)

This isn't for DD present by the way. She wouldn't give a shit if I wrapped them in tin foil 😅

This is for family presents.

I can see by the volume of your replies to me and others that I’ve put you in a tizz and I’m sorry

Ah, honestly, save the PA, it's not going to work. I didn't think you'd actually cut and paste those 'judgements' Smile.

But yep, it's Christmas - I'm very happy to move on. Happy Christmas, let's 'wrap this one up' Xmas Grin
@VinylDetective where do you think the beer goes? Grin
People drink it normally.

Mountainpika · 10/12/2020 17:51

A friend gave me a present last week, to keep until Christmas. It's wrapped neatly in newspaper and I'm really happy with that. Perfect recycling and reusing.

Porcupineinwaiting · 10/12/2020 17:53

@VinylDetective yes they drink it - and then they piss it down the toilet. The OP will use the paper to wrap the presents first, then it will be thrown in the bin. Failing to see a huge difference.

VinylDetective · 10/12/2020 17:54

What actually makes this worse is almost half the cost is packing and postage - £21 odd on £24’s worth of paper.

Ideasplease322 · 10/12/2020 17:56

@liveitwell

At a time when more and more people are being made redundant and can't afford food, yes, that's ridiculous.

TKmaxx do lovely unique paper for £2.99 a roll. Thick paper and beautifully made.

£45 could do a whole weeks shop for some families.

I often wonder about this type of post.

Are we not free to spend out money as we wish?

Yes people should donate money and be aware of how fortunate they are.

But if this lady wants to buy expensive wrapping paper, why shouldn’t she? It’s her money, she is spending it in the economy, giving a business (and probably a small business) a boost.

Telling people they can’t splurge on things that make them happy seems a bit ridiculous. We want people to spend money and help businesses.

Ideasplease322 · 10/12/2020 17:57

I say this as someone who donates to food backs and Christmas gift drives. But I still treat myself and my family.

It’s unfair to make people feel guilty.

Maddison12 · 10/12/2020 17:57

@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady

Brogues im afriad that would take all of the fun out of wrapping christmas presents.

It's my favourite job of the year 🤷‍♀️

Well this is a first, don't think I've ever heard anyone say they enjoy wrapping presents. Want to do mine?Grin
EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 10/12/2020 18:02

My favourite Christmas wrapping year was when I used plain brown paper and lavish looking (but actually very inexpensive) red velvet bows.

I was quite distraught to break up the beautiful looking pile to actually give them to people (and replace with ones to me that didn't match the theme). Xmas Hmm

rachelbloomfan · 10/12/2020 18:03

OP, I know exactly what paper you mean! I have been eyeing it up myself 😂 I think it’s a shame that it costs so much to get really nice quality wrapping paper these days. I am sure as a child you could get this stuff much more cheaply. I had a Danish childminder when I was a child and she taught me how to wrap presents absolutely beautifully and it’s been a real source of joy for me ever since. I think in the UK people generally don’t set that much store bun beautifully wrapped presents but for me it’s part of the pleasure of giving (and I do love to receive a nicely wrapped present too although I’ll take it however it’s wrapped 😂) I do think it’s your money and you should be able to spend it how you like. It would be good to reuse what you can as I do think there is an issue about waste and the environment etc which is valid but that goes for all wrapping papers cheap or expensive. I don’t personally think it’s fair to say that people shouldn’t spend their money on wrapping paper when some are needing to use food banks. Which isn’t to say I don’t care or don’t give to charity or volunteer in my community. Fancy wrapping paper is non negotiable to me but it should be available more cheaply and then these critics will be happy too.

gottakeeponmovin · 10/12/2020 18:06

Your money your choice. I buy the cheapest wrapping paper possible but that's because I take no pleasure in wrapping and it looks a bloody mess anyway. I donate a lot to food banks but if I want to treat myself to 45 quid of wrapping paper I would do so with no guilt whatsoever.

rachelbloomfan · 10/12/2020 18:06

Also wanted to say I know I’m lucky not to have been made redundant but working for the NHS as a doctor in a pandemic hasn’t been much fun either, plus I have bipolar disorder and am a single parent who has suffered domestic abuse and have been feeling low so I think it’s ok if I want to spend some money on nice quality wrapping paper to bring some joy into a terrible year. I don’t think you should let anyone make you feel guilty OP.

MrsJBaptiste · 10/12/2020 18:11

I love wrapping presents 🎁 I did all the kids' presents this morning with Christmas music on 🎄 although I much prefer nice square presents to those that are odd shaped and so never look quite neat enough 🙁

YanTanTethera01 · 10/12/2020 18:16

I love good quality cards and wrapping paper and even try to save nice paper if I receive a gift and love the wrapping. If you like it, can afford it and it makes you happy, why not.

SimonJT · 10/12/2020 18:17

I bought a roll of lining paper, my son and I drew pictures on it in white wax crayon and then painted the paper with water colours to ‘reveal’ the crayon drawing.

£5 and it kept a five year old busy and fairly quiet for almost two hours.

My partner has bought wrapping paper, thin tissue stuff, gift bags, bows, ribbons, tags and these weird felt snowflakes. Its from paperchase so hes probably taken out a mortgage to buy it.

VinylDetective · 10/12/2020 18:22

At least he hasn’t paid £21 to get it delivered.

£21?!

I hope its being delivered in a Rolls Royce!

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 10/12/2020 18:48

Where on earth have you got £21 To have it delivered?! Hmm

It was £2.99 for delivery.

I just buy parcel paper and decorate it myself. 25 metres for around 5 pounds. Can look really nice.

HollowTalk · 10/12/2020 18:57

@Kenworthington

I can top it with my present wrapping wankery. I bought vintage silk sari bags. And everything is wrapped in them. They look glorious. BUT even though they were obv £££ , I can reused them time and time again and they are SO pretty
But surely once you've given them the present, they keep the bag?
Kenworthington · 10/12/2020 19:05

@HollowTalk yes true HoWEvER there are only about three presents going outside of this house! Rest wrecks dh and the dc who all live with me so I get to keep them!

Sanchi · 10/12/2020 19:13

I think it is bonkers. It will end up only in the bin. I would be too stringy for that.

what kind of stuff is it? how many meters. is it gold plated?

StoneofDestiny · 10/12/2020 19:19

Wallpaper a room with it instead. Frankly I think it's extravagant. There is a lot of nice paper around.

StoneofDestiny · 10/12/2020 19:32

In fact - get some 'planets' wallpaper - would be cheaper.
