To want to know a benefit of brexit?

Dishwashersaurous · 10/12/2020 10:53

I know that brexit has been done to death. But as we crash into a no deal and inevitable queues at the border my children are asking what is the benefit of brexit.

Could someone please tell me a tangible benefit that I can tell them- as I am struggling to think of anything

These people will be glad that the UK can now better police it's borders, and many of these older generation are retired or reaching that age and are already financially stable so don't care as much about the economy. It's about reclaiming their country to them.

Since I am retired and have been now for a few years, I can speak. You sound as though you are talking about the 1930s when there weren't all that many immigrants. Realistically no one under 80 is going to recognise that Britain (England?) any more. I grew up in small market towns, and we never saw anything other than a white face. Go to Sheffield or Manchester where my relatives lived and black and brown faces - the original Windrush generation were common - even in the 1950s. Our hospitals and transport could not have functioned without them. It was a deliberate policy to recruit them.

TheSunIsStillShining · 10/12/2020 21:06

In Hungary many years back there was a massive gov campaign against immigrants/immigration. As a result a lot of old people in villages and rural areas to this day fear immigrants coming to rape them. They are genuinely afraid. Brainwashing through mass media -looking at DM, and the likes- is unfortunately a very powerful tool in the face of low iq/education.

Facelikearustytractor · 10/12/2020 21:11

To take back control of this shithole so that the blame for ruining it lies squarely with us? Though we will still be blaming the EU in 20 years time probably.

TheSandman · 10/12/2020 21:12

These people were and probably still are happy with the decision.

If they are still alive.

*And I do question immigration rising from other places instead of the EU. EU ppl came here because FOM made it easy. If you need a visa then it is not easy (min salary, admin, etc...)
So essentially the UK will be left with a gaping hole in some industries because those pure british ppl (whatever their color) won't or can't fill in the gaps. *

If I were from the Commonwealth I'd be hoping that immigration to Britain would be made easier because of shortages in certain sectors. Will the UK have to use visas as a bargaining chip when they negotiate trade deals with countries like China and India?

AlwaysLatte · 10/12/2020 21:16

People who voted must just love spending lots of extra money. I'm sure we'll be able to have things just as we like them - but it'll cost us.

AlwaysLatte · 10/12/2020 21:17

It's a fair question though. Nearly half the country voted for it. Come on then, what was it that appealed to you?

ssd · 10/12/2020 21:19

@atsasnuffothat

Independence for Scotland...
Amen to that.
frumpety · 10/12/2020 21:27

How can you not know the benefits? They may not be worth brexit to you but they are there

I love this statement, it's actually very clever in its own way. I don't know what the benefits are currently because its gone from its all going to be super easy and amazing to we are leaving with no deal and you better get out and do a bit of extra shopping in preparedness. The worth it bit sounds like Brexit is purely ideological, it isn't actually going to make anyone's life better as such, but you might believe it will for a while ?

TicTacTwo · 10/12/2020 21:37

I'm surprised how confident people feel that the Tories are going to invest in their region as much as the EU did. Where's the levelling up of the North plan? I live in the Home Counties so presumably benefit from projects like HS2.
Peregrina · 10/12/2020 21:39

It was supposed to be people beating a path to our door to do trade deals. Not lorry parks in Kent, food and medicine shortages, lack of people to pick fruit etc. Why isn't this happening?

The look on Gove and Johnson's faces the day the result was announced said it all.

TheSandman · 10/12/2020 21:41

Not my country.

Only 38% of the Scottish turnout voted for this shitshow. And as the turnout was 62% - that's well less than a third of the country.

adropnotabit · 10/12/2020 21:45

Well it's a great distraction from his piss poor handling of COVID.

Justcallmebebes · 10/12/2020 21:55

We can stop the export of live animals for slaughter

You may as well give up rainbows. You are right of course but it really won’t do for you to puncture the self righteousness of the mumsnet remainers.
The entire premise of the EU is to ensure exclusive access to the third largest richest trading bloc in the world for white people. When you point that out somehow everyone wants to pretend that that isn’t the case? It’s a fact that EU rules mean member states have to employ less qualified Europeans over more qualified non Europeans but remainers refuse to engage with that truth because they’ve dont like ...... it doesn’t fit the rhetoric. When certain towns or area in Britain which were strongly leave are mentioned, the rhetoric is “thick
Working class” rather than examining the fact that a lot of these areas have high ex-colony BAME people who were fed up of seeing their historic country of origin shut out in favour of white European. Funny when Turkey wanted to join ....bit too brown bit too Muslim ....suddenly it’s a no. And not a murmur when a poster on this thread essentially said brown people don’t integrate!! Because it doesn’t fit the rhetoric of the the self righteous who haven’t got the critical thinking skills to realise they have been defending largest discrimination policy against BAME people ever put in place. Even Trump didn’t manage it! But no, they claim it’s not a racists policy because some Europeans are BAME (wide eyed and innocent) ........ bullshit..... the uncomfortable truth and FACT is if you give massively preferential treatment to Europeans......then you are giving that treatment to predominantly white people.
You know it, I know it .... .... they even know it but they can’t possible admit it.

Funny that Farage used the prospect of Turkey joining as a major part of his Leave campaign.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 10/12/2020 22:11

Yes, I can't believe how racist and selfish the Remainers on Mumsnet are

All of ‘em?

megletthesecond · 10/12/2020 22:12

We've got something to moan about that isn't the weather 🤷‍♀️.

Why should I give a shit what Farage had to say?

I don’t care what he or Boris or anyone else said. I’m capable of some critical thinking all by myself and capable of seeing the blindingly fucking obvious ..... the entire premise of the EU is to ensure that Europeans give preferential treatment to other Europeans. Europe is a predominantly white population so this policy ensures that the white people have preferential treatment.

TheSunIsStillShining · 10/12/2020 22:41

A new low:

*Thank you. Yes, I can't believe how racist and selfish the Remainers on Mumsnet are.

My best friend through school was BAME and I have BAME friends. They all voted leave because they could see how racist and selfish Remainers and the EU are.*

So, remainers don't want FOM, freedom to study anywhere in Europe. They just don't want to see other colors than white. The only benefit of being in the EU is that there are less white people.
Do you not see how much of a bullshit this is?

The Eu is not about color. Europe is about color. Most europeans are white. not because of some conspiracy against bame ppl. But because Caucasian people - who have lived here for centuries - tend to have a fair skin color. It's not racism, it's simple geography, sociology and history.

It's like saying fish are racist when they don't want turtles in the water. It's utter bollocks.

in the world, in general there is a problem of xenophobia, but making this a central mantelpiece of why Brexit is just stupid.
The EU has never stopped the UK to lower the salary barrier for ppl in the commonwealth, yet UK did not do that.
EU never stopped the UK from making the visa application process easier. The UK has chosen not to do that.

Shall we say the same proportion of leave voters who are thick racist northerners.

TheSunIsStillShining · 10/12/2020 22:44

@Peregrina @ILoveAllRainbowsx
The problem with Turkey joining is not about color you utter dimwits.
It is an undemocratic country and their economy is not en par with most EU countries.
Hook, line and sinker you fell for a stupid narrative that only serves the purpose of arousing emotion.

I do see how it is very hard to make sense of the world when you have very limited knowledge. But whilst my 15yr old still has a chance and embedded need to widen his perspectives I think many people just are waiting for some farage like clown to feed them the lines.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 10/12/2020 22:44

See i dont think leave voters are thick racist northerners

But I appreciate that you may think differently
