Is it me or do most conspiracy theorists believe in EVERY conspiracy?

HMSBeagle · 09/12/2020 21:03

Dh knows a covid denier, so do I. Both of these people seem to believe in EVERY conspiracy.

Lizard Royal family, anti vax, no such thing as covid ( but also it was man made in a lab whilst not existing?) 9/11, David Ike, moon landings, micro chips from Bill Gates, you name it, they believe it.

If I made a video saying that clouds are really man made to hide surveillance cameras, or that pee is really plasma bleeding out because of toxins- they would believe me, even if its just BS I made up on a whim.

I am sure there is some truth in some conspiracies, but buying into all of them? Why?

I'm not bashing conspiracy theorists, just the wholesale buying into every conspiracy that I struggle with. It's like the only thing that matters is that someone is out to get people.

Or is this sometimes paranoia for some people? Because in a few people there is no differentiation. They just believe in each one as it comes out. Every single time.

Basically there's loads of good stuff at the edge they don't want us to know about.
The lizards are probably part of the elite.....

AndcalloffChristmas · 09/12/2020 23:21

I believe that Princess Diana is still alive and that the a Royal Family killed her.

Then there was that weird rumour that Charles had a long term mistress. Oh wait a minute.

Somethingkindaoooo · 09/12/2020 23:26

Denver airport?

Twofurrycatsagain · 09/12/2020 23:34

@Somethingkindaoooo denver airport is well worth a google. New world order, illuminati, masons, secret bunkers, bizarre murals, giant blue horse statue (artist died while making it). It's apparently the 2nd biggest airport by area in the world (because it's the headquarters of the one world government).

HMSBeagle · 09/12/2020 23:52

Ok just gave in and Googled lizard elite. Not sure that is something I can get behind myself. Denver airport is weird. I watched a documentary where it was talked about as part of another subject. It's the fast UFOs around it which made no sense. Who would experiment with new tech drones/ whatever they are around a public airport?

Half my family are masons. We have nothing to do with this but when the proverbial hits the fan we get targeted as part of the 'international conspiracy'. It's bloody depressing.

SwedishEdith · 09/12/2020 23:57

I think Chris Whitty's take on anti-vaxxers could be applied to most conspiracy theorists.

'Professor Whitty later described so-called "anti-vaxxers", people who are opposed to the vaccination rollout, as a "small group with very weird views".

He continued: "They are almost not worth acknowledging in public communication terms because nothing will persuade them.'

Twofurrycatsagain · 10/12/2020 00:05

The lizard people is a bizarre one. I think david icke had a lot to do with that idea. I was mightily relieved when his 2 and a half hour youtube video was pulled during lockdown. Although I then was subjected to 'why david icke was shut down' theories.

Watch one David Icke video and say goodbye to hours and hours of your life! I don't believe any of it but find it totally fascinating from a psychology point of view. And to be fair, while I don't believe in what he says, I also don't believe in god and people don't get called crazy (or it's not as socially acceptable to do so anyway) for thinking a man walked on water, fed the 5000, can perform miracles etc. If someone appeared today and said they could they'd be locked up. Messiah (netflix) was brilliant in making you think about this I thought.

I think the danger is it's now creeping into genuine safety issues eg anti vaxxers (pre covid and current), face masks etc. It's the first time in a while where conspiracy theories have had a direct effect on other people on a wide scale.

There are some brilliant podcasts about QAnon, it's fascinating. And bonkers!

SwedishEdith · 10/12/2020 00:15

I assume David Icke had a genuine breakdown and being laughed at reinforced that victim/sense of righteousness feeling. But then it became a money-spinner for him.

HMSBeagle · 10/12/2020 00:19

The person who was shouting Wake up! To me sent me a Bill Gates conspiracy video but dispite trying to be open minded it got to no point what so ever. It was "what I'm about to say is going to blow your mind" and a interviewer repeatedly asking "so what are you saying here?" With replies of waffle like "it literally blows my mind, you know? It's really hard to believe this" so I fast forwarded it and it was still just waffle. Still not sure what Bill Gates is up too, maybe my concentration span is lacking.

I could ask my eldest teen but he almost convinced me there is a subterranean world. Very convincing until I asked some probing questions and he declared it was time for bed.

I will have another look.

I feel really sorry for him when I watch the Terry Wogan interview, it was such awful judgement of his management to let him go on the show and Wogan behaved like a bully. And to be fair to David Icke, nobody on the Wogan show who was christian would have been told their beliefs were crazy and had Wogan encourage the audience to laugh at him.

It's painful viewing as he's clearly in a mental health crisis at that time. But yes, since then I think he's likely gotten mentally well but now built an empire on the lizard stuff!

SwedishEdith · 10/12/2020 00:24

Isn't the QAnon stuff all based on "wait til the truth comes out"? In fact, that's the same as most religions really. Keep people hooked and hanging on.

SwedishEdith · 10/12/2020 00:25

Yes, the Wogan interview looks very cruel now.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 10/12/2020 00:27

It is isn't it? When he says "they're not laughing with you, they're laughing at you." Horrible. I had some work dealings and while I won't say too much about a man who is no longer here, it's unsurprising he was unkind and a bit of a bully.
ClarenceBoddicker · 10/12/2020 00:28

Got a lot of time for David Icke as many of his ‘crazy’ theories have proven to not be crazy in retrospect. Often is right. But will never get over the lizard stuff and being the son of God claim himself. Wildcards areuseful otherwise we’d all be subject to some dictator type decrees which can’t be questioned. The last bit I said sounds like a conspiracy theory itself

ClarenceBoddicker · 10/12/2020 00:35

When I watched him being ridiculed over big tech surveillance I thought wow he’s right there. But gets rightly ridiculed about lizard and god complexity stuff. There’s sometimes method in the madness and truth within craziness

ElephantWhaleRabbit · 10/12/2020 00:37

I don't really understand the people who believe theories that contradict one another.

I know someone in Facebook who shares theories about the virus being completely fake but at the same time sharing theories that it was created in a Chinese lab and deliberately released.

ClarenceBoddicker · 10/12/2020 00:43

I think he was genuinely mentally ill on wogan about being the son of god and talking about royals being lizards. The ‘left’ are supposed to be sympathetic about mental illness. The more recent things he’s talked about don’t seem particularly out there to me. I don’t subscribe to a lot of it but not that level of craziness

tinselfest · 10/12/2020 00:46

Well some have been proven so therefore it gives credibility to Everything

Erm... no.

SwedishEdith · 10/12/2020 00:47

But don't most/all conspiracies theories have a nugget of truth in them or something to make a rational person think 'perhaps?'? They wouldn't work otherwise.

ClarenceBoddicker · 10/12/2020 00:56

I’d feel embarrassed to be considered one but I have to admit I agree with some of his stuff. To be fair the bits I agree with are proven now by the targets he mentioned himself. But he was saying it before it was formally acknowledged by them and initially denied

youvegottenminuteslynn · 10/12/2020 00:58

@SwedishEdith

It depends how far you strip that back though.

Are there some very privileged families that are able to pay their way into favour and power? Yes. Are they lizards? Probably not.

Are there ways we are kept tabs on by private companies and the government? Yes. Are they going to inject us with chips to follow us? Nah.

You can exaggerate anything to the nth degree metaphorically or in principle but it doesn't make things actually real.

Having said that I bloody love listening to Bob Lazar talking about his experiences and they grip me! So maybe there's a conspiracy theory for everyone, it's just some people want to believe all of them.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 10/12/2020 01:00

If anyone wants to lose a couple of hours of their life they can't get back, enjoy! Fascinating and he is so compelling, I love watching this and getting cross with myself for falling down the rabbit hole!
