Mike Tindall wanting a son

Congratulations on his wife’s pregnancy news, but I can’t believe he has actually said he really wants a son this time. The Pressure on poor Zara after all her loses too. Hopefully they’ve already had a sex scan and know it’s a boy.

OP posts:

@Thewithesarehere

Not as good for the environment as they preach, these royals? Hmm
When have Mike and Zara Tindall preached about the environment? Confused

@rosegoldwatcher

The Pressure on poor Zara after all her loses too.

I don't see how Zara could be 'pressured' - the sex of the child was determined at or close to conception wasn't it?

Absolutely nothing either of them can do to effect the outcome.

Yes, and it's decided by the sperm, so it's on him not her whatever happens!
rosegoldwatcher · 09/12/2020 19:37

OP, I don't think that you need to be worried/feel concerned for Zara.

She is as sensible as her mother and probably rolled her eyes at her husband and called him a dick when he said that.

hansgrueber · 09/12/2020 21:09

@LolaSmiles

If he said 'a son would be nice' or joked about a man in the house then who cares? It's lighthearted.

If he's said he said he wants a son and would be disappointed with a daughter then that would have been unreasonable.

If you listen to the whole thing he said he would like a son but whatever the baby was it would be much loved. It was just the type of conversation I'm sure many people have with their friends, nothing sinister about it at all.
IEat · 09/12/2020 21:47

Nothing wrong with giving a preference.

SugarCoatIt · 09/12/2020 21:52

I was also surprised at this comment, being made so publicly and put on record.

However, I then wondered whether they had perhaps had a gender scan and already know.

Who knows, time will tell I guess....

Noranorav · 09/12/2020 21:53

Sounds like the kind of comment that can be taken out of context:
Interviewer: would you like a son?
Him: yes I'd like a son but we don't really mind
Headline: MIKE TINDALL WANTS BOY

Bit different to him being like ' I want a boy and only a boy will do!'

Interviewers do this all the time, it's really annoying!

1Morewineplease · 09/12/2020 21:58

He's just expressing an opinion. No doubt he'll love whichever sex arrives.
Congratulations to them.

Straighttalking1 · 09/12/2020 22:26

In thought the pressure would be on him. The sperm chromosomes define the sex, no, not the woman's egg.

Charleyhorses · 10/12/2020 07:03

For the love of god, leave it alone. Can't imagine being in a situation where every passing comment is picked over.
Me and dh have 3 daughters. If we could have picked one off a shelf we would have picked a boy at some stage.
We have just found out we are going to have a granddaughter. How fabulous will that be?

Tinkerbell456 · 10/12/2020 07:46

I don’t think it means he wouldn’t love a daughter.

Bluntness100 · 10/12/2020 09:35

@Tinkerbell456

I don’t think it means he wouldn’t love a daughter.
And he specifically stated he would love whatever gender the baby was. Just simoly he was making a crack as he’s already got two daughters so living in an all female house.

I really don’t get the angst, it’s fairly normal to state a preference but you will love whichever variety you get.

He wasn't being interviewed though. He was having a chat with a few other (rugby?) blokes and made a point of saying he wanted a boy.

I don't think it's a big deal and suspect that they already know it's a boy, but if I were a well-known person I wouldn't publicly state my preference in this way.

AurorayRuben · 10/12/2020 15:39

The thing is Mike, you may well get your boy but what if he doesn't want to play rugby??

KimchiLaLa · 10/12/2020 15:44

I think it's distasteful but most men will admit they want a son.

KarenMarlow3 · 10/12/2020 15:51

I see the professionally offended are out in force today.

If it's a girl she might want to play rugby. Nothing stopping her.
AurorayRuben · 10/12/2020 17:25

That's not what I meant Counsellor....we all know girls can play rugby.

notacooldad · 10/12/2020 18:56

And I've heard plenty of women wanting girls!
Big deal!🤷‍♀️

FestiveChristmasLights · 11/12/2020 01:20

I’ve listened to it and it sounded lighthearted to me.

The media is reporting that Zara is four months’ pregnant so if they want/ed to know the sex, they easily could do by now.

IFuckLobstersForMoney · 11/12/2020 01:27

I read somewhere that once you’ve had two of the same sex the chances of having a third of the same again is as high as 70%. Always exceptions of course, but it’s apparently something to do with the exposure in your womb to either oestrogen or testosterone.

But Zara has had four pregnancies. We don’t know the sex of the two she miscarried although she and Mike will know at least one of them, since Zara was far enough along in her pregnancy that she had to deliver the baby.
Scarlettpixie · 11/12/2020 01:57

@TellingBone

How is it pressuring her? It's not as if she can do anything about it.
This.
ClarenceBoddicker · 11/12/2020 04:39

Crazy lol. It’s a good away of identifying the crazies though. My lovely friend had two daughters he adored outnumbered 3-1 at home sex wise so didn’t think to call him out for being a bastard when hearing number 3 was on the way and said he fancied a boy

ClarenceBoddicker · 11/12/2020 04:49

First one you take what you get. As a man I wouldn’t have a preference for a son but after two daughters might do. Doesn’t matter if not. I’m only one of two but mother told me she wanted a girl after older brother. Was an accident too in terms of being unplanned. Don’t have a complex about it or have ever felt unloved! She didn’t say I was unwanted. My friend has 4 older brothers snd is a joke he only exists because they were still trying for a girl snd he seems to have a fine relationship with his parents funnily enough
