Mike Tindall wanting a son

Congratulations on his wife’s pregnancy news, but I can’t believe he has actually said he really wants a son this time. The Pressure on poor Zara after all her loses too. Hopefully they’ve already had a sex scan and know it’s a boy.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 09/12/2020 14:21

I don't understand the 'pressure' thing.

It's just his preference and might be hers too for all you know OP.

nosswith · 09/12/2020 14:23

I agree it should be a private matter.

LolaSmiles · 09/12/2020 14:23

If he said 'a son would be nice' or joked about a man in the house then who cares? It's lighthearted.

If he's said he said he wants a son and would be disappointed with a daughter then that would have been unreasonable.

HitthatroadJack · 09/12/2020 14:24

Get a grip, it's fine to make a jokey comment and there's no pressure on "poor Zara".

You need to see the difference between expressing a vague preference and the ridiculous drama about "gender disappointment". Pretty sure they won't name the child covid.

Nobeautysleep · 09/12/2020 14:24

I listened to it and he was tongue in cheek

flaviaritt · 09/12/2020 14:27

I don't really think that it's right to express a preference, especially in public.

Why?

helloxhristmas · 09/12/2020 14:29

I think they've been through enough publicly and who knows what in private for him to make a comment that many many people make.

EdithWeston · 09/12/2020 14:32

@LolaSmiles

"He continued: "I'd like a boy this time, I've got two girls, I would like a boy. I'll love it whether a boy or a girl – but please be a boy!"

SoupDragon · 09/12/2020 14:32

The Pressure on poor Zara

How?

MiniCooperLover · 09/12/2020 14:33

He made a joke while giving out the lovely news on his podcast. He's the dad, they've had a lot of losses and he's always made it clear he loves his existing daughters when I've read him talk about them, I don't think it's worth getting offended about 🙄

EdithWeston · 09/12/2020 14:34

Just spotted what else he said:

"I'd like a boy this time, I've got two girls, I would like a boy. I'll love it whether a boy or a girl – but please be a boy!" To groans from one of his co-hosts, Mike then joked: "We're not sure what to do Covi or Covina – I don't know where to go with names."

IcedPurple · 09/12/2020 14:37

Do we know how far along Zara is? Could it be that they already know it's a boy, in which case his comments are less 'problematic'?

If he already had two sons and expressed a wish for a daughter, would you be bothered OP?

SoupDragon · 09/12/2020 14:39

I can’t believe he has actually said he really wants a son this time

I've just seen what he actually said and it's nothing like you imply at all!

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 09/12/2020 14:39

It's a bit shit for the potential forthcoming Dds - and the existing ones - that the (probably out of context) quotes of their high profile parents on the matter are there for all to see for decades to come.

Crunchymum · 09/12/2020 14:40

Of course people have a preference, but publicly voicing it when you are famous is irresponsible (can you imagine if the child ever comes across it in later life ? )

Crunchymum · 09/12/2020 14:42

This is what was said

"I'll love it whether a boy or a girl - but please be a boy."

Pretty hard to put a spin on that really?

HitthatroadJack · 09/12/2020 14:42

Pretty sure the child will be raised well enough by their parents that they will actually get the joke...

Cauterize · 09/12/2020 14:43

I do find it baffling how people are so easily offended

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 09/12/2020 14:43

Maybe it is about the existing kids, whatever sex, and maybe about the new one if they turn out not to be the 'right' sex.

Lots of people do have a hope for one or the other, and love them all just the same, but it's pretty easy for kids to think that they are not quite good enough.

SoupDragon · 09/12/2020 14:44

Pretty hard to put a spin on that really?

Yes, it's hard to misunderstand the phrase "I"ll love it whether it is a boy or a girl" but people seem to be doing just that.

Icantrememebrtheartist · 09/12/2020 14:45

I don’t see the issue.

They have two healthy daughters and perhaps this one will ‘complete’ their family and he/they would like a son. Nothing wrong with that and nothing wrong with voicing it.

Only on Mumsnet does having a ‘preference’ seem to be met with such disgust. Literally everyone I know had a preference with their second or third pregnancy for what ever reason.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 09/12/2020 14:46

@Cauterize

No one is offended.

Some people think these opinions, about your own kids, are best kept to yourself for the sake of the children.

LittleMissLockdown · 09/12/2020 14:46

@Crunchymum

This is what was said

"I'll love it whether a boy or a girl - but please be a boy."

It's quite clearly a light-hearted joke. They will not care either way whether it's actually a boy or a girl, given their losses and the utter heartbreak they have experienced in the past they will clearly be content either way as long as the baby is healthy.

It baffles me how people take such little things like a comment made in jest and get so offended over it. Confused

emilyfrost · 09/12/2020 14:48

YABU. He’s entitled to his feelings, and it’s no pressure on Zara as the outcome can’t be changed and he’ll love the child regardless.

It’s okay to have a preference.

Peanutbutterblood · 09/12/2020 14:50

It sounded to me like he was being light hearted

Considering how many women on here have preference for girls I find it strange so many people are so shocked someone would say such a thing

Theres nothing wrong with having a preference, he will love his child no matter what its sex is. Obviously I only see things in the media but they look like a lovely family
