To think Hermes shouldn't recycle my Christmas presents for me?!

Checked my amazon account this morning to see that a parcel I'd been told would arrive on Wednesday had actually been delivered yesterday. I had had no note, no text, no email to say that it had.

After checking the tracking number on the Hermes website, I find the attached picture, which I'm fairly sure is the bottom of my recycling bin.

Unfortunately my bin was emptied this morning, apparently with DH's main Christmas present in the bottom.

AIBU to think that Hermes should let me make my own decisions about what I recycle?!

Tell them

They will refund you

I have had similar this week its ridiculous

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 07/12/2020 14:01

So your recycling bin was totally empty yesterday? Even thought today was collection day? That doeant sound right.
Are you sure it isnt somewhere else? Probably on a different street?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/12/2020 14:01

I can't understand the logic of putting parcels in bins. Where to put rubbish. Which will be collected by binmen.

The same thing happened to my MIL recently.

Ferrari458 · 07/12/2020 14:02

Talk about a daft question Wherever... so now you expect Op to explain that she chucked a bag of recyling in there ready for collection and didn't peer in the bottom and see the package?

timeforanewstart · 07/12/2020 14:03

I would go made if put in my bin even empty , what if bin juice at bottom
Mine often say left in safe place which is behind my small lavender bush in full view of the whole street

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 07/12/2020 14:04

@Ferrari458

No. Most councils collect recycling bins every 2 to 4 weeks. By the time collection day comes, you've been using the bin for 2 to 4 weeks. It wouldn't be empty the day before collection day unless you're hoarding your recycling in your house or you dont recycle anything.

FrustratoPotato · 07/12/2020 14:05

Hermes are rubbish. I was told that the item I'm trying to send back has already been collected. Ummmm, no. It's still sitting in the front hall. Can you get contact details to email or ring them, not a chance. Their extremely lengthy question algorithm doesn't allow for any queries outside of what they specify. It sends you around in a loop. I hope you are able to get recompense.

FestiveChristmasLights · 07/12/2020 14:05

Why was your bin out for collection if you thought it was empty?

LittleMissLockdown · 07/12/2020 14:06

If the bin was empty and clean as it looks from the picture I don't see why it was so terrible to put it in there, although obviously they should have left a note.

I am however totally baffeld how your recycling bin was emptied today but yesterday when the parcel was delivered it was empty?

ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing · 07/12/2020 14:07

Hermes deliver Amazon purchases?

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 07/12/2020 14:09

@ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing
Yes. Hermes have been delivering amazon parcels for a long time. They dont delivery them all, but since amazon is full of third party sellers then they use all different couriers.

You've outed me as a recycling hoarder Grin ! I see our indoor recycling box more as a goldmine of craft possibilities - especially at Christmas - so don't let poor DH take it out too often. He went and ditched it in last night before he put the bin out, and presumably didn't peer in before he did so!

Thanks, I guess I have been lucky so far - I try to avoid Hermes as it’s the only delivery service I ever have an issue with

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 07/12/2020 14:12

@Ferrari458

It appears many people have picked up on the empty bin the day before collection day. Apology time maybe?

hilariousnamehere · 07/12/2020 14:12

Not by Hermes but I had a £250 printer just left on my doorstep last week - no outer packaging so it was very clear from the box what it was 🤦🏻‍♀️in fairness it wouldn't have gone in a bin but would have fitted in the porch cupboard just fine.

I'm sorry your parcel got recycled!

MedusasBadHairDay · 07/12/2020 14:14

Used to work for an online retailer, it was so common for parcels to be "delivered" into bins. That or chucked through windows and onto roofs.

The drivers are just trying to deliver as many parcels in as short a time as possible, and are usually told they have to be put somewhere out of view. Which results in some odd choices of hiding places.

Under car wheels was popular too. Here we get parcels thrown over a 6ft fence.

Really they need to get paid better for delivering less, so they don't rush and do daft shit like.

Hermes customer service email - I spammed this until someone got back to me re. my ‘missing’ delivery

Emeraldshamrock · 07/12/2020 14:16

Well you've explained how an empty bin became full then emptied within 24 hours. Hmm Why keep the all recycling in doors how much caft from recycling do you need.
Is it covered by insurance?

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 07/12/2020 14:16

There isnt any point in emailing Hermes. The parcel isnt lost so they cant help.

Your contract is with amazon. You tell amazon what happened and get a refund or replacement.

Robinelf · 07/12/2020 14:17

I’ve had packages put it the wheelie bin before - the actual bin - on the day the bins are picked up. With no note left that I could find. Luckily I opened the bin to put another bag in before moving it to the kerb.

I also had a strange occurrence with a package that did not arrive. There was a photo of the box, left in my porch, saying it had been delivered that day. Ddog was even in the photo, looking at the box.

But the box... full of expensive make up, was nowhere to be found. I was hunting everywhere. I questioned the dog.

Then, when I looked more closely , I saw a plant in the photo. One I no longer had there, that had been moved inside at least a month before.

It was all a bit strange. The company sent me another one though, and the dog was off the hook.

Robinelf · 07/12/2020 14:18

(It was an old photo, of a previously delivered package, in case that part isn’t clear Grin)

Plus your agreement is with Amazon, not Hermes. So they are unlikely to deal with you directly.

Typical for Hermes. What gets me the most is they don't even try to tell me they're dropping something off. I'm actually home! At the very least, ring the doorbell or send a text so I know to go look for a parcel before it gets stolen!

As has already been said, your contract is with Amazon anyway. Not their terrible courier.

Serendipity79 · 07/12/2020 14:25

Contact Amazon and they should replace it. There are some weird and wonderful delivery methods and "safe locations" appearing on here just recently!

Hermes have started a really annoying practise which is to ask me to take parcels in for neighbours (which I'm fine with) but then according to my neighbour when they leave a note for the recipient and they go online to see where its been left, it doesn't include the address its been left at, its just a picture of an open doorway with the parcel on the floor. One of my neighbours knocked at three houses on Saturday before she got lucky with me as I had her parcel!
