To think stop shaming sanitary pads!

I’ll call eat this by saying I have ASD.

From high school for me it was encouraged by teachers (PE) to “use tampons”. So from 12 I used tampons (painfully) because sanitary towels were considered “gross” or girls were worried they could be seen under their PE kit.

This carried on with “friends” causally by them being like ew who used pads.

I was twenty fucking six until I dared use a pad because I had a bad UTI and by god the relief was immense, no longer having to reluctantly shove things up myself. It’s not like “wearing a nappy” at all.

AIBU to think there’s a social pressure to use tampons?
@MadameBlobby, no I know the difference and I mean shaming. Encouragement is fine, shaming is not. For example, encouragement would be 'have you considered this?', shaming is 'what is wrong with you for not using this much more acceptable product?' Hence why I said no-one should feel the need to justify what they use for their own personal needs.
I’m struggling to believe that actually happens.

I don’t like tampons and have always used pads. Never felt any pressure about it at all and have really never given it a second thought,

Happened at our school

The excuse that you had your period was not allowed to excise you from PE and we were more than strongly encouraged to wear tampons to be able to go swimming

As I said before some girls were excused on religious grounds others would have had to get a letter from home

The attitude was just get on it by wearing a pad you were holding yourself back (from one class a week)

There was certainly no sympathy when we struggled with painful periods

*excuse you from PE

I remember this happening at school. Period shaming in general. Weird considering everyone had them!

I always hated tampons and kept using pads. I was a late bedwetter and had nappies quite late for it so pads didn’t freak me out at all.

DH told me that at his school “poo-shaming“ was a thing too. Any boy going into a cubicle rather than using a urinal would get mocked for pooing at school. As if the shammers never needed to...?

PS beware of over sharing as thare might be pervs getting off on periods here.
