To wonder how Kate Hudson sleeps at night (Fabletics)?

Yet another friend duped by Fabletics and their offers.

It relies on busy people, usually without much cash thinking that their offer is too good to be true before they find out a few weeks later that another £44 has gone out of their account and that they actually signed up to a subscription for leggings.

It's just such a seedy way for someone who is already well off, who lives a pious yoga/spiritual life splashed all over Instagram, to make more money.

@RaspberryCoulis

"We" should write to them about? Dear fabletics, I'm not a customer but writing to you about this hypothetical customer who I dint know but who might chance across your site and be hoodwinked?

Better write to all the gambling sites, people might not realise it's real cash and not Monopoly money, better also write to every other website which asks people to sign up and enter credit card details or email details, people might not understand!!!

Take responsibility for yourself.

I was referring to me and Fitter. I honestly didn't realise that someone with dyslexia might not understand it,as it's so obvious to me. Kicking myself for it.

The company might not realise either and maybe they'll want to do something about it. Maybe they just don't care. Maybe they do rely on people not getting it. Who knows?. What's the harm in pointing it out and leaving it to them?

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 06/12/2020 20:02

@evenmoreforthemoor because you never mentioned it before PP made a (very good) point of it.

So far it was all busy people,poor people, distracted people,people who forget ,how it's not advertised at all,only on a side bar,not reading emails ,it was years ago etc.

Now she's suddenly dyslexic?

lioncitygirl · 06/12/2020 20:02

Oh come OP - she should have read it and not just paid, or put a reminder in her phone to cancel as soon as she buys - i do that all the time, amazon prime, special beauty boxes etc - its really not that hard. Its clear as day. Wouldn't you bother to read something, the finer print if you were spending money?

Backbee · 06/12/2020 20:03

I remember when they first started up it was not obvious at all, and following a load of backlash it does seem like it is clearer on the website now. That said, if you click through from an advert on insta or wherever, the details are not always included in the ad, it says to click through, and not everyone does read what they are buying/signing up to, and get pulled in by the offer price!

CakeRequired · 06/12/2020 20:04

Come on, this is like when people get a credit card, max it out and then wonder why they have to pay the money back, which sadly happens a lot.

This isn't the companies fault. Your friend didn't read the website. She should just pay up, cancel the subscription and learn from her mistake, maybe run the idea past someone else next time before she buys things online.

Leaannb · 06/12/2020 20:06

@slashlover

Very clever of them to ensure you miss that front page as soon as you have signed up, means you aren't reminded of how it works.

Apart from the monthly emails while your subscription is live?

Monthly? I get daily emails of promotion and reminders on the deadline of how to "skip a month"...I never do skip but they make sure I know I can
Nameandgamechange123 · 06/12/2020 20:06

Yes I wouldn't feel comfortable running a business like this. It's a horrible model

tricky29 · 06/12/2020 20:07

I’ve just realised I’ve been paying £6.99 a month for an Xbox subscription I could get for £49.99 annually. Annoying yes but completely down to me. Cancelled the monthly and bough the annual subscription.

Likewise, went through the Fablectics page and decided to cancel when I saw it was a monthly subscription. Buyer beware in both cases.

I actually thought you were questioning her being 'super clever'. Not sure what I would have to gain by lying about her being dyslexic. I'm not trying to win anything here, just find the convo quite interesting.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 06/12/2020 20:09

@AccidentallyOnPurpose

Yeah - she didn't read them because she didn't realise what she'd signed up to - thought it was just a marketing email. She's kicking herself now, and still waiting on a call back that was meant to be 2 hours ago.

This is getting hilarious now. She she read it the first time,it's mentioned at checkout AND she received emails but dhe didn't read them. But it's somehow their fault?

Reminds me of the school mum bitching about breakfast club fees being increased,how she was caught short and it was embarrassing and why didn't the school let her know, "bunch of incompetent arseholes". When we told her it was in the newsletter(both paper and email) she said she never reads that rubbish and the paper goes straight in the bin. They should've messaged her apparently.

Sure love...

It's even mentioned BEFORE you put stuff in your basket actually. So probably 3x? At least?

400rabbits · 06/12/2020 20:14

I've actually just had a look at the website and I do think it has been designed very cynically

The landing page starts with about how amazing the leggings are, what a bargain they are , interactivity like a lifestyle quiz and then you put in your details- which brought me to a page that told me I was lucky enough to have been awarded an extra 50% off!

The fact that it is a subscription service and how to cancel is underneath all the parts designed to get people excited and involved with the idea

I'm sure it's legal but yeah, it's not a business that I think is particularly ethical .It makes me think of the dodgy MLM companies around

SchrodingersImmigrant · 06/12/2020 20:17

Btw we get 2x leggings for 24. Men get just 2x shorts😂

RaspberryCoulis · 06/12/2020 20:19

And now I'm getting Fabletics ads popping up on my FB feed....

"Fact of the Day: Women 👏 Love 👏 Pockets 👏 !
Get 2 leggings for £24 with your Fabletics subscription. Shop or skip each month to avoid £49 charge."

How is that unclear?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 06/12/2020 20:21

@vanillandhoney

I'm sure its all legal, and as I said early on I think they have made it much more obvious its a subscription service, but it doesn't sit right with me so we will just have to agree to disagree on this one

It's fine that it doesn't sit right with you, but that doesn't mean they're doing something wrong or immoral, which is what OP is trying to argue.

MLM's are technically legal but they sure are not ethical, while this isn't on the same level it has a very similar feel for all the reasons I've already gone into detail about. The same reasons that make them stand out from the other subscription services. I certainly do not think its an ethical company.
AccidentallyOnPurpose · 06/12/2020 20:22

Justfab works in similar principle. Several times got dragged in by the offers, but never went through with it due to the subscription element.

You will get these for life now. And marketing emails. Several a day.

I'm actually from the Fabletics marketing team Grin.

Ok. My last then I am out, because otherwise it will eat my all eveningGrin

Before it asked me to put card in I was told 4 times about the subscription.

Once on main page. (Someone up has a pic)
Once before I put it in a basket.
Once when I went into the basket.
Once ehen I filled up delivery details and it moved me back to the basket before payment.

4 times.

People really need to take responsibility for their own actions. It’s no wonder so many people get scammed out of their money when they don’t use their common sense to read what they’re buying into before committing.

VioletCharlotte · 06/12/2020 20:24

I've got some Fabletics leggings, they're great. Really good quality and fit. It's made completely clear that it's a subscription. I cancelled mine after a couple of months, no bother at all.

Leaannb · 06/12/2020 20:24

Like it has been said before it is no different than streaming services or subscription services or in the States our membership warehouse stores. Except Fabletics actually puts that money into your account. Its still yours to spend at a later date. I've been a member for years and this isn't a secret. They are very upfront about it. Its not their fault people don't read. Its not in tiny letters. There are no deceptive practices. Very easy to skip a month with many emails reminding you on how before the 5th of the month. TBH this feel like its against people who find their subscription service useful. Like how can people know its a subscription service because who would need that type of subscription and to compare it to an MLM is freaking ridiculous.

Why would I not say it was me if it was me? You guys are strangers on the internet. It's not the Masked Bloody Singer, I don't need exposing. Back to the drawing board Sherlock Hmm.

@LivingDeadGirlUK....I'm sorry I didn't realize that Fabletics have driven people to bankruptcy. This is nothing like an MLM. Its a subscription service for people who like and use athletic wear on a frequent basis. If you use it correctly like picking your selections or clicking skip the month button it works. The company even puts that money in your account to use later if you happen to forget. Nothing is taken from you. Its there for you to spend later.
