I don't want my kids to be vegetarian

DC (15 & 13) have decided they want to go vegetarian. I don't want to go vegetarian and neither does DH, so they'd have to have different meals. I/DH don't want to be wasting time making 2 different meals whenever we want meat or fish, and we don't really have space for 2 people to be cooking at once. WIBU to say no?

The effect of carbs on your body seems to depend upon how knackered your pancreas is

Many people can eat moderate ( think whole grains and fruit) carbs without any negative effects and plenty of positive ones. When it's working, Like any other organs, regular exercise seems to keeps it fit and strong

The only people who really benefit going no carb are those who have damaged their system through overwork

bluebluezoo · 08/12/2020 09:33

@midgebabe

Do you have any evidence for that?

squeekums · 08/12/2020 10:27

I spend an hour or so a day cooking the evening meal from scratch
That's my idea of hell
I hate cooking
Anything that makes the whole thing - cooking, shopping, prep, more washing up longer and more tedious than it already is will be met with contempt
If I won lotto, the first thing I'd do is hire a personal, live in chef
The longer I have to spend in kitchen, the less likely I am to even be hungry at the end, I get so sick of looking at food I lose my appetite

No one has said what they do for adult guests with dietary preferences. Interested to know if those who refuse to pander to their child’s fad also refuse to pander to guests or other adults
We dont throw dinner parties. If we have a bbq, its byo if you want outside the sausages, chicken wings, steak. I buy premade salads.
I literally only cater to allergy or health issues.

Fad shit, sort yourself. That even boils down to the people who eat meat but only want organic free range blah blah xyz crap. I buy what's in my budget, don't look at where it's from, don't like it, don't eat it, simples

Luckily dd shows no signs of ever being vego.

I’m the same as @squeekums. I cater for guests dietary requirements and not their preferences.

So if someone NEVER eats meat / animal products / dairy / gluten / eggs then I will ensure that there’s food they can eat and I will label all dishes / let them know what’s safe.

If someone is at allergic ( which is actually very rare ) then I will ensure that there’s NONE of that ingredient in any dish .

If someone is an omnivore but prefers x then they will need to choose what they like from the food I provide.

Not to hand, but I picked this up from a peer reviewed paper, possibly a meta-analysis, quite recently. If I get time I'll try and find it again

midgebabe · 08/12/2020 11:04

But my rummage to tr6 and find what I had read had brought up this that suggests long term effects of low carb are not necessarily understood , possibly implying some caution about low carb even for people with type 2 diabetes
