@user1493413286

Does a national trust membership count? I thought that was the epitome of being old and boring when I was a teen and now here I am with one
Ha ha. I asked for life membership for my 40th birthday. I love it.

A magimix and tablecloths.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 04/12/2020 22:21

To those saving your dinner set (or anything else) for a special occasion, please just get it out and use it and enjoy it.

We've just cleared PIL's house. Auction houses not interested - everything was either too old or not old enough. Could barely get charities to take her china, crystal, silver, and furniture stuff away for free. Thank goodness my MIL never knew.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/12/2020 22:23

Not sure I've forgiven my mum and dad for getting rid of their Ercol sofa, instead of having it repaired. We got it when my sister was a newborn. She's 37 now. We grew up
On that sofa.

SummerWhisper · 04/12/2020 22:26

Enamel dishes, plates, roasting tins - in all colours. I blooming well love them now Grin

SummerWhisper · 04/12/2020 22:26

Oh and geraniums!

keeprocking · 04/12/2020 22:29

@musicposy

I don’t own, but along a similar vein I used to tell my mum her 60s sideboard was hideously ugly and out of date and she should replace it. Likewise the built in wooden kitchen cupboards.

Now I think they are high quality retro chic and am envious!

At 70+ I realise that everything comes round again!, did I see white shiny knee-high boots a couple of years ago? Many times I see things and remember having it in the 60s, 70s 80s, seriously miss all my lovely Indian cotton stuff from Med living days, especially this last Summer. I always thought that my mothers big mixing bowl was hideous, it was an old Mason, I'd love it now.

@wanderings

Here's the worst combination of coasters: glass coasters, on a glass table. What would frequently happen is that I'd be offered a drink, and when I picked up the glass to drink from it, the coaster would come too... only to fall back on the table with a loud CRASH.

@Sidge I too have inherited a Moulinex electric carver!

The coaster thing happened to me, a couple of hours ago on a wooden table. I love glass coasters though.
Ericaequites · 04/12/2020 22:34

I now own china that stays in the hutch and is never used. Mother had a set of Noritake no one remembers seeing on the table. My sister in law andI plan to consign it when the crisis is over.

zeddybrek · 04/12/2020 22:34

Comfortable shoes

Toddlerteaplease · 04/12/2020 22:34

I had a lovely pair of Edwardian style heel boots from hotter. I'm 39!

keeprocking · 04/12/2020 22:35

@Geppetto

A radio in the kitchen permanently tuned to Radio 4.
What else would it be tuned to? How would we know when Stir-up Sunday and Open Farm Sunday were happening, or not this year.
LoveFall · 04/12/2020 22:42

A pressure cooker. I used to be scared of Mom's. Now I have an Instant Pot and I love it. It doesn't scare me at all.

notangelinajolie · 04/12/2020 22:43

Not my parents but my mum. Big knickers. I mean it's a right of passage isn't it?

Groovinpeanut · 04/12/2020 22:44

A teapot 😮

Blondiney · 04/12/2020 22:48

Shed
Butter dish
Knickers instead of thongs
Hot water bottle

mathanxiety · 04/12/2020 22:51

Lurchermom · 04/12/2020 22:58

A boot brush/scraper. Technically I don't own one yet, but it's on my Christmas list Grin

organicapricot · 04/12/2020 23:01

Proper napkins and napkin rings. I just bought some for Christmas day.

MrsFriskers · 04/12/2020 23:14

A Mouli purée maker, also a rotary cheese grater!. Also my stepdads moulinex electric hand whisk/ beater thing. All still going strong after 50 years.

Alicatz66 · 04/12/2020 23:15

Oh yes ! To big pants, slippers and bum covering jumpers !

TitoTipples · 04/12/2020 23:15

Another vote for a shopping trolley.

And now I find myself basing biscuit selections not on the biscuits themselves - but on their practical usefulness of the tin they come in. I've drifted into my grandmother's world of random tins for random things.

katy1213 · 04/12/2020 23:18

A bus pass. I love it!

80sMum · 04/12/2020 23:25

Big knickers
Vests
A subscription to Saga magazine
Varifocals
Elastic-waisted trousers

And next week I'm going to be choosing and ordering my first "granny chair", an electrically operated recliner. They look very "care home-ish" but I'm past caring about that, I just need something comfy that doesn't make my backache worse.

TowandaForever · 04/12/2020 23:26

@RB68 Ercol is collectible so it might be worth looking on eBay etc for an idea of what it's worth.
