My DSis found a mirrored plaque at TKMaxx that says.." Mirror, mirror on the wall..I am my mother after all"Grin

wolfmom · 09/12/2020 16:42

I don't own (yet) but my gran had one and mum is getting one, this cosy robe. A blanket with poppers so you can wear it. Mum shared the link and I immediately thought "ooh that would be nice"

I have started ebay hunting for the exact crockery I moaned throughout my childhood was so ugly and old fashioned and boring and kept asking my mum to get rid of and buy something cool. She had the full works, big and little and side plates, soup and dessert bowls, serving dishes, casserole dish, cups and saucers, everything, and would be sitting on a mini fortune now if I hadn't bellyached about it being ugly for years until she tossed the lot.

Alicatz66 · 09/12/2020 17:01

@wolfmom . My aunt has a very nice one of those ... you can completely pop yourself inside it .. looks so cosy .. it's a pink one .. known as "the prawn" !!

Sweetpea1532
I love it

Europilgrim · 09/12/2020 20:46

Glad to see that I am not the only one buying up on ebay the plates and pictures I once scorned in various relatives' houses. Nostalgia is a terrible thing!

Ddot · 09/12/2020 21:34

I bought hornsey tea coffee sugar set all different patterns and colours but same size, looks fabulous, well I think it does. I love a bit of 60s 70s

A cupboard full of plastic bags, filled with other plastic bags

Sweetpea1532 · 10/12/2020 18:09

@Ddot
Why, thank you!
Keep an eye out for one at your local charity shops...who knows where these zodiac disks have gotten off to.
They were made by Alcoa Aluminium plant in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. It has a Kensington hallmark on the back....lol,, I also found the same ALUMINIUM bread tray my mum has.

Sweetpea1532 · 10/12/2020 18:13

@Ddot
Mum has good taste in platters
I just found this(see photo)LOL

Sweetpea1532 · 10/12/2020 18:17

@Ddot
I just assumed the platter was from the 50s, but according to that photo it could have been my grandmother's since it says it was from 1936 in that Kensington book.

Ddot · 10/12/2020 18:30

Wow get you

Ddot · 10/12/2020 18:33

I found a herb wheel from a charity shop. It has small bottle that spin on a wheel I love it so much

Proudboomer · 10/12/2020 18:44

I inherited from my mil a full service including gravy boat, serving dishes and tea service of a Jessie tait style craft diner service. It dates from the 1950s but has been boxed up and stored for the past 30 years.
I am never going to use it but I know these are quite collectible. It is the starlight design which is not so common as some of the stylecraft stuff.
Once COVID is over I might dig it out and donate it to my local hospice shop who can do the relevant research to get the best price for it.
I know it it’s day it was quite posh and I have 3 giant stack and store boxes full of it.

NoddyWithAVoddy · 10/12/2020 18:55

The drawer.
Referring to a drawer usually in the kitchen where all the odds and sods go. Normally cluttered with crap that will never see the light of day again.
It's even called ' The drawer ' and everyone immediately knows which drawer your talking about.
' Have we got any sticky tape?'
In the drawer.
' Have you seen my broken watch that's been missing since 1976?'
In the drawer.
I swore I would never have The drawer in my house, but one day it just arrived in the middle of the night when no one was around to stop it.

Ddot · 10/12/2020 20:03

I call mine the black hole

Ddot · 10/12/2020 20:04

Proudboomer
Its stunning

Proudboomer · 10/12/2020 21:26

It is very pretty but by today’s standards everything is so small. I have that gravy boat and it wouldn’t fit enough gravy for two let alone the whole family.
I remember as a child my nan had a different stylecraft diner service which was used for best. It must have had about the same size plates but either we have just got used to bigger meals or it just looked bigger though a childs eyes.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 10/12/2020 21:31

I have a pretty minimalist style no extraneous faff.but I have a drawer
“The drawer” is stuffed with batteries,random stuff, just in case stuff

VinylDetective · 10/12/2020 21:34

@Ddot

Proudboomer Its stunning
It’s amazing, isn’t it? I wish I had it, I’d use it all the time. The elegance of that jug!
Ddot · 10/12/2020 22:14

I dont have a stomach, so be large enough for my appetite 🤣 left it on the bus, so I did. Sorry you gotta laugh

Graphista · 11/12/2020 05:41

Worst of all I sometimes hear myself saying to my children something my Mum used to say to me.

Aka - "I opened my mouth and my mother fell out"

An experience dd is having at the moment when dealing with younger people than her.

I think I'm older than you, these days it's my grandparents falling out of my mouth! My mother thinks it's hilarious!

@MrsToothyBitch really? I have an iPhone and dd a Samsung and we both have addresses on ours. The only issue we have is we can't send addresses easily electronically to each other as incompatible. Iirc I used to on even my Nokia 3310 although I think it only had space for no, street name and postcode

@Confusedandshaken I drink earl grey and used to take a small tupperware box of teabags into work. One cf nicked one thinking he's all clever and dodged having to pay into the kitty. Added milk to it - didn't nick MY teabags again!

@Sweetpea1532 perfect item for this thread!

@ddot - ceramic with cork lids? I love those

I'm the one with wires and old European currency, dd is the old takeaway menus which is pointless as I view online and she orders the same damn thing every time! An 80 year old in a 19 year olds body cos it can't be "too spicy, too chewy or too modern" her mates call her "granny dds surname"

@Proudboomer I first learned of this via ww! As a result I took over to mums 1 each side plate, dinner plate and bowl. My side plate nearly as big as her dinner plate, dinner plate would work as a charger plate for hers easily and the bowls! We'll see pics! My bowl can take up to 5 times how much cereal hers does!

Graphista · 11/12/2020 05:43

Mums bowls are like the one on the grey background. Much shallower and smaller circumference than mine

Ddot · 11/12/2020 07:32

Take your coat off or you won't feel the benefit, that skirts just a belt, my mum in my mouth

Ddot · 11/12/2020 07:47

My house is full of old and new. 50s 60s 70s but mostly new furniture. I found a 50s dressing table in an ally, I kid you not. its fab no mirror unfortunately but the light still works, marble effect top with long legs and two drawers. Needed some TLC. I also acquired a loyd loom chair in similar circumstances, skip rat or dumpster diver Haha
