This has just popped into my inbox in a Waitrose mailing. Are, not sure when he became a wine expert instead of a slab. AIBU that experts should actually be just that?

I think M&S won on this one with wossisname Siriex. He told us what kitkats were made of, ffs!

Anordinarymum · 04/12/2020 23:52

He's also very good at football skills on roofs, and he is an expert at selling cars, and now I do believe he is interested in Gin as just a few of his many interests.
I can't stand the guy, and to be honest never have done.

hulahooper2 · 05/12/2020 00:12

Whether or not he knows about wine , I am completely fed up of his face popping up on everything on tv , give someone else a chance , please

SirMoanalot · 05/12/2020 00:25

Slimey slippery weasel.

NiceGerbil · 05/12/2020 00:26

I liked him in the broom cupboard but to be fair there wasn't a lot of choice in those days, I was young and not to terribly discerning, and Andi peters was better.

That advert where Philip appears on your shoulder is deeply creepy.

PorpoiseSpitGazzette · 05/12/2020 03:09

Trying to work out the OP descriptor “slab” so many autocorrect fail permutations Grin

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 05/12/2020 08:08

Pisspot Phil.

@NonCisWoman me too!!! I might have tried their Christmas gin but because it is actually branded “Scofe’s” it just gives me the rage. Every time the advert pops up on Facebook I want to comment but everyone else seems to adore him. His over powdered face is on everything.

Ihavethesecret · 05/12/2020 08:41

I think we're just told people adore him tbh. Like Ant n Dec. I certainly don't adore the drink driving one. Good agents and PR presumably

Most of the presenters on ITV are awful.

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 05/12/2020 10:09

@ShedFace

He is just a terrible human being. I feel they should put this before his name always.
"terrible human being, Phillip Schofield (....)".

I like it. Sums him up well.

jetadore · 05/12/2020 10:25

It's been shown repeatedly in blind tests that wine 'experts' can't tell the difference between cheap and expensive plonk anyway.

Hopoindown31 · 05/12/2020 10:37

I preferred it when wine experts were just posh alcoholics who were wheeled on to spout semi-drunken nonsense about oak and blackberries from a wine aisle in Sainsbury's and no-one took them seriously.

Sparklingbrook · 05/12/2020 10:43

Jilly Goolden and Oz Clarke were the ones back in the day. They were the first wine experts I remember. Lots of swirling it about the glass and having a sniff.

NiceGerbil · 05/12/2020 13:08

Hop, excellent post and yes I agree Grin

Have you seen Oz and James May doing it - it's hilarous Grin www.amazon.co.uk/Oz-Jamess-Big-Wine-Adventure/dp/B000KP7N50/ref=pd_lpo_74_t_0/261-0762559-2407320?psc=1&pf_rd_p=7b8e3b03-1439-4489-abd4-4a138cf4eca6&_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_wg=t5LmZ&pf_rd_r=NDYQ1CWRTQPBJPJ87CF6&pd_rd_i=B000KP7N50&pd_rd_w=dj81E&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&refRID=NDYQ1CWRTQPBJPJ87CF6&pd_rd_r=e2669734-8eb5-4849-845c-5b3a07159799

@CottonHeadedNinyMuggins, oh I had forgotten about that. Didn't they get sloshed continually? Grin

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 05/12/2020 20:39
