To say it's QUEUE, not QUE?

Every time I see "que" on here, all I can think about is Manuel in Fawlty Towers.

It's a sodding QUEUE.

@Crappyfridays7 I never laugh, I promise. Flowers

Emeraldshamrock · 03/12/2020 08:09

@Crappyfridays7 Ignore it see it as petty.
I learned lots of SPAG on here. I attended a crazy cc poverty-stricken school SPAG wasn't high on the agenda.
There are many posters who are kind and supportive they'll dive in to unnecessary piss taking.
Before anyone critic's my post I haven't learned it all.
The difference of weary and wary was recently pointed out in a kind manner now I know.
Many mean pp's can't see past the superiority witty education they had.
It can be small mindedness thinking
we all had the same start in life.

Misusing ‘take’ and ‘bring’ makes me violent.

‘Shall I bring my dad to his hospital appointment next week when I am vulnerable to Corona?’

TAKE! IT’S SHOULD I TAKE MY FATHER!!

‘DP says he won’t bring me to my sisters house next week. Is he BU?’

Yes he is.

BUT SO ARE YOU IF YOU’RE ASKING SOMEONE TO BRING YOU TO THE FUTURE.

Ahh. That’s my day off to a good start.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 03/12/2020 09:07

It's "pressurised" which is making appearance a lot lately.

It's interesting because it comes in waves.
For a year it's x word, next year it's y word. It's like a changing trend, like you would have in a fashion, for example. That's why I sometimes absolutely doubt it's dyslexia. Dyslexia and other disabilities wouldn't go with a "trend" would they. I would think it would be the same issue all the time? I am happy to be corrected.

CaptainMyCaptain · 03/12/2020 09:07

@SoupDragon

Like adding totally unnecessary words, separated, with a comma, like this?

Was this meant to be criticising the post you quoted or was it just a general whinge? There's nothing wrong with the quoted post.

Agreed. 'Admittedly' is a sub clause and, as such, has commas round it. (See what I did there.)

@ImWearingReallyJudgyPants

I saw a chest of drawers advertised on Facebook Marketplace as, simply, a "Chester" *@LindaEllen*

I am, admittedly, a terrible old pedant - but some things are beyond mere pedantry.

I'm not sure that I could bring myself to buy furniture from an illiterate.

I hate barbeque. It's a bloody barbecue.
Surely a barbequeue Grin

ptumbi · 03/12/2020 10:07

Our local 'Savers' shop instigated a one-way system, as did many others, in April. Arrows round the shop, ending in a line and QUE painted on the floor at the tills.

It's still there (along with the one-way system) even though I mention it every single time I'm in there.

It's December.

You’re right but why didn’t you declare your annoyance on the last thread on this issue? They occur regularly.
SlopesOff · 03/12/2020 10:19

It's rediculous.

I feel like that about some posts. I’m afraid I stop reading when I come across a “should of” or something similarly nonsensical. If that’s the effect on me, somebody on a mere forum, what must the effect be on potential employers, for instance?

I must admit to being put of by people trying to sell pet bowels.

Does your autocorrect not recognise question marks?

Janegrey333 · 03/12/2020 10:23

Ooh. I see it’s got a thing about missing out commas, too. Tut.

Time to get the marker pen out and correct it for them.

LOL QUE?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 03/12/2020 10:29

Does your autocorrect not recognise question marks?

Wouldn't know since I don't use it. My bad there.
I think it's bit different to miss out on commas than to confuse have/of, chest/chester, definitely/defiantly and pressured/pressurised. That's completely different words with different meanings. Commas are sometimes quite complex, or at least appear to be. That's why I would never comment on them.

Commas are not “quite complex”. A case of glass houses, I think...
Janegrey333 · 03/12/2020 10:37

My comment regarding autocorrect was meant to be ironic. But you are taking it literally so I shall inform you that I “don’t use it, either. It just happens to be there.
🤷🏻‍♀️

SchrodingersImmigrant · 03/12/2020 10:38

There are books just on commas. So yes, I would say they are more complex than a simple "could have".

Janegrey333 · 03/12/2020 10:39

Sometimes authors use commas in an odd way and pass it off as a stylistic device. That’s funny. I find myself wondering if their punctuation really is up to scratch.
