Am I just old and grumpy or is it reasonable to believe that young children should NOT be wearing camouflage clothing?! I can't stand the stuff but my DS's (4 and 2) have just been given rather a lot of it as gifts! What do you think?

Agree 100% with NomDeBroomstick. I hate the pattern and find it tasteless also.

3andnogore · 20/10/2007 19:56

My boys quite like the odd camou bits.....but then, my dh is a soldier...
however, to me teh Kids camou stuff, in general, really doesn't make me think of soliders, as it is a different colour and pattern to the real stuff, anyway.....

WorkingClassScum · 20/10/2007 20:48

"and why would anyone infer that their child was trouble"

it was only a mildly amusing pun!

I should have known better than to post it given that lots of people on here have had a humour bypass when it comes to raising children!

OrmIrian · 20/10/2007 20:51

It depends on whether they have the matching flak jacket, doc Martins and AK47 really.

But no, the odd pair of cam trousers or a jacket isn't a problem for me.

Besides it leaves you the option of losing then when you go for a walk in the woods .....

Nightynight · 20/10/2007 20:53

I am not too keen on camouflage because I dont want my sons growing up thinking it's smart to be a soldier, but they have had the odd camouflage bit of clothing.

What is far worse, and you find a lot of in Germany is pseudo US military slogans all over boys clothes. Yes, that would really make the Iraqi refugees in the class feel right at home, wouldn't it. Not.

OrmIrian · 20/10/2007 20:54

And what about little girls wearing camo? DD does - DS#1's hand-me-down trousers and she looks fantastic. And that's with 8 hol doc Martins too.

Draw the line at the AK47 though.

She hates pink just as much, if not more, than I could want her too

Summerfruitfullofscaryworms · 20/10/2007 20:57

Oh chisigirl you are uptight...there is nothing wrong with camo...it's true it hides the dirt..it's practical

3andnogore · 20/10/2007 20:58

Working class., I also found it amusing...as the intendet pun

MyTwopenceworth · 20/10/2007 20:59

I have never thought about it. Never. Not once.

Erm.

Nope, don't care if kids wear it.

So I guess that means I think you're just old and grumpy.

bozza · 20/10/2007 21:01

I think camo is tacky. DS has had items with odd bits on it but nothing that has been fully camo IYSWIM. None of it bought by me though, apart from one pair of socks. DD had a lovely John Rocha (handmedown) denim pinafore dress, that was just slightly spoilt by the pink camo patch pockets.

Pink camouflage gets on my nerves. I disagree with blu's interpretation. I think it just stereotypes girls towards pink even more. And unfortunately my DD is somewhat more favourable towards pink than orm's. Well, I suppose I would like her to like it a bit so we could get some use out of the tons of pink handmedowns we receive.

lady007pink · 20/10/2007 21:01

My son has a few pairs of camo trousers, bought by MIL. I think they look lovely on him, and he loves them. I never thought about the warfare stuff. I wouldn't get my knickers in a twist about it.

kid · 20/10/2007 21:03

DS went through a phase of wanting to wear camo so I let him. I didn't mind at all. He has finished with that phase now though so he doesn't have any.
He is now going through a phase of clothes with skulls on. I am happy to let him go through this phase. I just wonder what will come next.

I am very against young girls wearing heels. My DD is 8 and has never had shoes with heels on. They are far too grown up and very dangerous if you ask me. I also don't go for strappy tops. Vest style tops for the summer are fine, but not those one shoulder things. If she received one as a present, she wouldn't be wearing it.

stoppinattwo · 20/10/2007 21:07

why is being dressed as a soldier any different to being dressed as a fireman or apoliceman or a nurse or any other reputable proffesion.

get over it. It is only you the parents that red anything into it. If your child at whatever age they are wishes to wear that type pf clothing then let them. it doesnt mean anything!!!

Just your overactive imagination, just get over it and stop stereotyping

stoppinattwo · 20/10/2007 21:08

apologies for my apallng spelling btw...............damn keyboard

geordiemacmummy · 20/10/2007 21:12

What about animal print... Would make the child grow-up thinking its ok to be a zebra??

bozza · 20/10/2007 21:12

I don't like one shouldered strappy tops because I think they are adult. Ordinary strappy/vest tops bother me more as regards sunburn issues than anything else. DD is 3 and has several pairs of the hideous dressing up shoes, but only startrite boots and cica trainers and wellies for normal wear (apart from the sandals she managed to dig out for today ).

skerriesmum · 20/10/2007 21:14

I think it makes a mockery of real child soldiers in Africa. My sons will never wear camo clothing.

themoon66 · 20/10/2007 21:16

Wait till you've got teenagers. A bit of camo will the the least of yer worries.

stoppinattwo · 20/10/2007 21:17

but why should our children not be able to dress up as soldiers if the want to just beacuse of some war that is going on in anther country

?? WTF i dont think so

skerriesmum · 20/10/2007 21:17

True! And it's not so bad on teens, on little children I don't like it.

bozza · 20/10/2007 21:19

TBH I wouldn't worry about DS dressing up as a soldier so much, but just don't like the clothing.

cornsilk · 20/10/2007 21:21

Both mine have had a pair of trousers and I didn't even think about it. It's not a big deal IMO.

omeN666 · 20/10/2007 21:21

Its up to you what you dress your kids in..but dont pass on your opinion to others over something as trivial as camoflauge pants.
