Prime Minister late yet again for a press conference

Mrs Thatcher would never have been. Unacceptable when you don't have long to travel, and have called the conference yourself.

Give him a chance, he's still trying to sober up from lunch.

Janegrey333 · 02/12/2020 17:15

He’s such a pitiful excuse for a leader. Urgh

chunkyrun · 02/12/2020 17:16

Has anyone checked the freezer ?

PilatesPeach · 02/12/2020 17:18

No surprise and cba to watch it have heard all day about the vaccine don't need him to repeat same all ra-ra and aren't we fab so watching the Chase and might even open a bottle of something cold (and I don't mean milk).

The Prime Minister is much more important than the media. He can turn up whenever he likes, including not at all, if he changes his mind about talking to them. He owes them nothing, they are profiting from material he provides for free, at his discretion, when he feels like it.

He is actually being unprofessional and tardy as is his wont.
Janegrey333 · 02/12/2020 17:33

Can’t see him anywhere.

I hope you're being ironic.

He's not Louis XIV - he (or his people) will have called the press conference. They're not camped outside his palace hoping for a few crumbs of his bullshit wisdom.

PilatesPeach · 02/12/2020 17:35

Not just keeping media waiting but the electorate/general public too more importantly

Material he provides for free? He's the Prime Minister. He has a duty and responsibility to give information to the people who pay his wages, via the media, on important national matters (like a vaccine for a pandemic...). He's not there out the goodness of his heart.

  1. The media is the way he communicates directly with the citizens of the UK. The citizens of the UK are more important than he is. Would you take this attitude when video calling your boss?
  1. When he's repeatedly late that becomes the story, rather than what he wants to say. Government comms have never been more important- getting this right is literally life saving, but he keeps fucking it up.
  1. His time is very important. Usually it would be planned to the minute. The fact that this keeps happening is a symptom of a much bigger problem- the government is run in a very disorganised way.

If, as you say, this is perfectly fine, then it would be common. Very few other world governments run like this and they are not ones you'd wish to emulate.

megletthesecond · 02/12/2020 17:43

Whitty is hopefully reading Johnson the riot act about whatever risky thing he's trying to announce next.

nosswith · 02/12/2020 17:52

@donquixotedelamancha I have been in France when President Macron has had press conferences or broadcasts. He is on time.

As was Angela Merkel when disrupting my walk in Berlin a few years ago.

He probably needed someone to fasten his buttons, help him on with his coat, and brush his hair (the hair person obviously didn’t turn up - again).

JamieLeeCurtains · 02/12/2020 18:07

I've stopped watching him on TV, including the news.

480Widdio · 02/12/2020 18:08

Cannot watch him, just had to turn the TV off yet again. To me he is evil personified.

HyacynthBucket · 02/12/2020 18:16

He treats the public with utter contempt - everything he says seems to be spouted out without reference to whether it is true or not - and he expects us to lap it up or even believe it! Turning up late and keeping people waiting is just another example of how he does not give a stuff about anything or anyone.

doctorhamster · 02/12/2020 18:17

I didn't know I was supposed to be waiting for boris. What's this one about?

Heyahun · 02/12/2020 18:38

Meh who cares just watch the catch up of whatever shite he has to say later

People are worse for sitting around waiting for him tbh

oiwotaluvlyday · 02/12/2020 18:47

I've stopped watching him and no longer believe anything the government tells us. Boris is a total embarrassment and a disaster for the country, we are the laughing stock of Europe if not the world.

CoRhona · 02/12/2020 18:50

He's desperate for a 'win' after Brexit and Biden.

Sorry, what's that? He's announced the first licensed vaccine?

How bloody well timed Hmm

Bluepolkadots42 · 02/12/2020 19:00

He's incompetent in every area (except virility it would seem) so not sure why you expect him to be punctual.

Callipygion · 02/12/2020 19:05

Let’s see if he’s quite so chipper after January and the vaccine-carrying lorries are stuck at customs in Belgium.

Livelovebehappy · 02/12/2020 19:12

Better to turn up late and give us the right information, than rush it and be unprepared.
