Doing this to a child is wrong

fuckxmas · 27/11/2020 18:09

BBC report : His said his 14-year-old daughter had not left her bedroom for four days, with meals being left outside her door, until the family learned the result was void on Thursday

This is so wrong to do to a child

Just realised who flaviaritt is, she's the poster who wont let anything go.

Apparently someone shouldn't be allowed to do anything nice for their kids without doing it for the entire street.

Or anyone else in this thread apparently

A situation for which I might blame educators, not myself.

I cannot believe you are now trying to base your argument on a grammatical clause, Ie whether your statements are conditional or assumptive. I can confirm that in my opinion they are batshit crazy .
JesusInTheCabbageVan · 27/11/2020 20:17

No, it doesn’t say she wasn’t allowed to leave. IF she wasn’t allowed to leave, it is imprisonment.

And if boiled eggs are runny we can dip our toast in confused

Sodding posted too soon. I meant to say...

That “grammatical clause” is the distinction between you understanding me and not, so forgive me for standing upon it. And I think you are batshit crazy so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Me too. But in this case, you are implying that we know the auntie has no wheels, whereas we just don’t know if she has wheels, and I am saying IF she has wheels then X.

So you have a logic fail there.

fuckxmas · 27/11/2020 20:22

@Joswis

I work in a boarding school. Any students with suspected Covid or covid contact are isolated for 10 days (overseas - this is the isolation period here), totally alone. Meals left outside the door.

The alternative is infecting others. WWYD OP?

I wouldn't make them stay in the bedroom, they would be in whatever room they wanted to be in and i would make sure i cleaned thoroughly

My teen would be fine and would prefer to do this than risk infecting the family too. It’s not as if you can go outside the house if you’re in isolation anyway, so they would be missing out on? A trip to the living room! You can keep an eye on them from the doorway and have a chat. 14 year olds spend a lot of time in their rooms anyway, I’m sure she wasn’t barricaded inside

bobbiester · 27/11/2020 20:25

Shock - family follow World Health Organisation guidance on managing COVID-19 cases at home - which state....

"Household members should avoid entering the room where the patient is located"

I did not call you batshit crazy , merely your argument. I think you may find that you are on your own pretty much on this one .

Grin

But you're assuming I'm assuming my auntie would have four wheels, if she had wheels. I didn't say that. If my auntie did have wheels (which I assume she still doesn't) I assume she would have three wheels. In which case she would be a tricycle, or possibly a Robin Reliant. As I say though, I haven't seen her for a while so she might just be a red herring instead.

flaviaritt · 27/11/2020 20:31

Even if that were true, I would still think it. But I don’t believe many people would imprison their child in their room for four days.

flaviaritt · 27/11/2020 20:33

You’re funny, but no.

But you're assuming I'm assuming my auntie would have four wheels

No. I just said wheels.

GrumpyHoonMain · 27/11/2020 20:34

My cousin’s daughter is 10 and currently self-isolating in her room due to 3 known cases in her class because her twin has a high risk of complications. Not all children get the luxury of being childish I’m afraid.

ragged · 27/11/2020 20:35

My 20yo cousin tested positive so Aunt made her stay in bedroom (en suite) for 2 weeks. I think cousin was there for her birthday. Aunt brought meals & took away trays...

Aunt is the breadwinner, 59yo, & lives in a country where unemployment benefits are patchy. Uncle is about 62 & still in work, too. They didn't want to take chances. Cousin understood all that.

ragged · 27/11/2020 20:36

I wouldn't make DC isolate like that, but I'm not going to criticise decisions others end up needing to make.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 27/11/2020 20:36

Ah, balls, you're right. But if she had balls, she'd be my uncle.

IMNOTSHOUTING · 27/11/2020 20:36

God just stop being dramatic. Everyone on this thread has said they would tell their 14 year old to stay in their room and continue to offer support (unless they were vulnerable in some way) and their 14 year olds would be happy to do so. No one said that they would barricade the door. There is no suggestion the people in the article did that either.

If you insist your 14 year old comes home at night and goes to bed do you consider them to be imprisoned?

flaviaritt · 27/11/2020 20:37

God just stop being dramatic.

I don’t consider it to be dramatic:

No I don't suppose they would. But there is no indication that anyone has. That surely is the crux of the matter
corythatwas · 27/11/2020 20:39

I wouldn't make them stay in the bedroom, they would be in whatever room they wanted to be in and i would make sure i cleaned thoroughly

But surely that would then mean that other family members would not be able to use that room? So another child may well be confined to their room instead? Unless of course you live in a mansion.

As far as we know, most transmission of Covid is not through surfaces but through the air, so I don't know how you would clean that. And most houses do not have living rooms large enough to allow for social distancing.

VienneseWhirligig · 27/11/2020 20:50

Ah take no notice of flavin. She thinks kids in masks is child abuse worthy of reporting to social services Grin

mathanxiety · 27/11/2020 20:57

...the likely impact of four days of solitary confinement on a potentially ill teenager.

LOL @ 'solitary confinement'.
