To blame you all if my Chinese takeaway is ruined?

Have just ordered our dinner, and included the salt and chilli chips for the first time ever, purely based on all the threads that rave about them Grin

I had always assumed that they were just on the menu to satisfy the
unadventurous diners, along with omelette.
However I was reading old threads few weeks ago, and lots said otherwise.
I've been waiting for our takeaway night to test it, and now here we are.

Chinese food fans, how do you rate these chips? Are they really different to chippy chips? How so?

OP posts:
Lolapusht · 27/11/2020 20:01

They were especially spicy tonight Grin

I love Prawn Dumplings followed by Fried Beef and Peppers with rice .
Next time definitely getting the chilli chips too though Grin

@SilkyMoonfaceandTheSaucepanMan your order sounds perfect. I’ve not had Chinese for ages as dh doesn’t like it but I’m going to have to over rule him soon.

StickTheKettleOnAlice · 27/11/2020 20:11

I havent tried those but do love punjabi chips from the Indian take away especially dipped in mango chutney....yummy

SunniCameHomeWithAVengeance · 27/11/2020 20:15

I love salt and chilli chips. My go to order is a spice bag with a side of salt and chilli chips and sesame toast.

HappyDaze90 · 27/11/2020 20:20

Salt and Chilli boxes are one of the only great pleasures in this life 🤤🤤🤤

Now I need one and I’ve just had my dinner 😂

@StickTheKettleOnAlice

Tell me about these chips.
We do t have that option in Liverpool and I need these chips in my life.

As many pics as you can and a description so I can tell my local about them.

Artinsurance · 27/11/2020 20:24

Inspired by this thread, we ordered the salt and chilli chips as well as our usual order. Delicious 😋

ThatDamnScientist · 27/11/2020 20:44

Ours do salt and pepper chips (and salt and pepper everything at another local Chinese). Soooo good! I now need one to soak up the bucket of gin I've drunk tonight. Blush

paganbilly · 27/11/2020 20:50

OP I'm blaming you now for our horrible takeaway dinner, I'd planned to cook lasagna and then saw your thread so ordered a takeway, it was so disappointing.

Are salt and pepper chips the same as salt and chilli chips?

I need to know

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 27/11/2020 20:54

Photo of the Home Bargains spice mix please 🙏

bringbackCabanas · 27/11/2020 20:57

Randomly we had chips included as a freebie in our Chinese takeaway tonight, and they were like no chips I've ever had before. So I'm guessing they were salt and chilli ones. They were covered in chillies and spring onions and were tasty. But, DH and I both said that if we knew we were getting chips we would have orders Chinese curry sauce to dip them in 😊

StickTheKettleOnAlice · 27/11/2020 22:44

@nancybotwinbloom they were sooo delicious! They were big fat wedge style chips coated in spices with onions through, I wonder if similar to tandoori chips with just a different name. I haven't had them for ages so sorry no picture to accompany! I am seriously craving special chips tonight after reading this thread....

MrsGradyOldLady · 27/11/2020 22:46

Yes. I think it depends where you live. I live in Yorkshire and they're called either salt and pepper chips or salt and chilli pepper chips. But get prawns or squid as they're even better. I'm going to have to get some tomorrow now as I can almost taste them 🤤
Haffiana · 27/11/2020 22:47

Has anyone ever seen these in London? I am feeling left out.

CatMuffin · 27/11/2020 22:56

Just checked and our Chinese does salt and pepper chips so I'll order them next time. Had a chinese tonight but didn't see this in time.
Had mixed hors d'oeuvres and prawn crispy noodles. Smile

howmanyroads · 27/11/2020 22:59

Thanks @MrsGradyOldLady

Can't find anywhere round here doing salt and chilli chips but have found one place that calls them salt and pepper chips so now I can try them Grin

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 27/11/2020 22:59

I think after 10 years here I’ve tuned into some sort of MN sub-conscious. I didn’t read the thread about Chinese chips and yet tonight we had a takeaway and DH suggested we try no other than salt and pepper squid. And lo, the takeaway was the most delicious in all the land and my heart sang with joy and my tastebuds glowed with pleasure. I’m so dehydrated that I’m on my second pint of water, but it was totally worth it! And then I came in here and discovered this thread. It’s kismet.

MrsGradyOldLady · 27/11/2020 23:00

@howmanyroads you must! Definite game changer 😁

Adventine · 29/11/2020 15:29
@laudemio

Get yourself this.

Stir fry peppers (green and red) and chillis (green and red but not too hot) add onions and this.
I use this in loads of recipes! It’s amazing in Bolognaise and the secret ingredient in my chicken and leek pie believe it or not!

StickTheKettleOnAlice · 29/11/2020 19:54

I agree shredded onions and peppers transforms food. I finely shred them long and thin then caramelised them and mix them with pulled chicken and Old El Paso spice mix and it makes the tastiest fajita filling! Also add in rice and salad/slaw, salsa and cheese with a squeeze of lime.

nancybotwinbloom · 06/12/2020 18:19

Just as a side note to everyone who loves salt and pepper.

I bought some chicken strips (breaded) from Iceland last week. Flavoured with salt and pepper. They do hoi sin ones also. Limited editions.

Fucking unreal. Had then in a wrap yesterday.

100% recommend.

nancybotwinbloom · 06/12/2020 18:21

@StickTheKettleOnAlice

I love that old El Paso mix. It's one of my fave dinners.

My DH gives me the rage by adding to it. Just leave it the fuck alone! Grin

StickTheKettleOnAlice · 06/12/2020 19:29

@nancybotwinbloom oh yes no it def doesn't need any other spices/seasoning added to it; that is culinary suicide imo 😂! It makes chicken taste like restaurant level, love it.
