Vaccine announcement was delayed to scupper Trump’s second term

This is what Donald Trump is claiming. And I have to say, I’m no fan of Trump but the timing does seem very convenient. AIBU to think his suspicions may have some grounds?

Scary how many posters are perfectly happy for pharmaceutical companies and big business to directly influence elections.

Get therapy, OP.

@Dongdingdong

Trump, unsurprisingly, produced no evidence to substantiate his claim.

But he was right about it.

Scary how many posters are perfectly happy for pharmaceutical companies and big business to directly influence elections.

Sorry, what was Trump right about? The problem is that the language is so vague. He said a vaccine was 'ready', but what does that mean? That they finished developing it? They said on R4 this morning that the Oxford vaccine was fully designed back in January. Pharmaceutical companies have been manufacturing sisters of the vaccine for months ago it can be rolled out as soon as it's approved.

Vaccines were created months ago, not yet approved, not ready to be rolled out, and months and months away from being widely administered.

Absolutely OP.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 24/11/2020 22:43

Jesus fucking wept. And if a vaccine hadn't been formulated? Would you have ignored his bigly covfefe predictions? SAD!

bravefox · 24/11/2020 22:44

Sisters=doses

jasjas1973 · 24/11/2020 22:44

@Dongdingdong

To those asking why would it matter if they did... well for one thing, maybe because it’s pretty damn worrying to have big pharma companies playing politics and directly trying to influence elections? Just a thought... Hmm
I think you might be right but the world is a better place without Trump, his kind of populism, racism and division belong in the 1930s.

God alone knows what he and Johnson would have done over the next 4 years, Biden will rein in our Trump lite.

user1471565182 · 24/11/2020 22:45

Its far too long down the line to suggest he reads the boy who cried wolf I suppose

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/11/2020 22:46

@Dongdingdong - I think you need to look at Trump’s record, and evaluate this particular claim in the light of that record.

If he had a track record of reasoned, logical, intelligent truthful statements, that would lend credence to this claim. But he really doesn’t, does he.

Trump. The ultimate example of nominative determinism. Everything he says is just ridiculous & unwelcome blasts of hot air emanating from an arsehole.

Ugh, conspiracy theories

toconclude · 24/11/2020 22:50

@Dongdingdong

The research process does what it does - you can accelerate a lot of it, but not all of it.

But there was literally about five days in it. Maybe it was just a complete coincidence... or maybe not.

What a load of cobblers.

Silly post

I am not happy for pharmaceutical companies and big business to directly influence elections

I just don’t believe that this has happened in this particular case

Ludicrous to make such a leap

Wickerbaskets · 24/11/2020 22:50

@Dongdingdong surely they were trying not to influence the election? Announcing a few days before might have given trump a popularity boost for something his government didn’t have a hand in achieving. By delaying for a few days (if that’s what happened) it was simply news of a vaccine and not a political announcement which might have swayed people’s views on an election...?

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 24/11/2020 22:52

Trump could tell me my eyes are blue and id still have to check

toconclude · 24/11/2020 22:52

You have heard of irony, right? What you appear to believe is simply ludicrous.
andfurtively · 24/11/2020 22:53

I don't think the the German based Pfizer-BioNTech group or the British based Astrazeneca group really care too much about American politics.
Or maybe they witnessed the car crash press conference earlier in the year when Trump suggested that UV light could get into the body and kill the virus, or maybe you could drink bleach?

@AgeLikeWine is clearly not an advocate of freedom of speech then. Sorry, I didn’t realise we were living a dictatorship. Good lord.

Not being a fan of his and all that.

@RufustheSniggeringReindeer Why?

@Wickerbaskets fair point.
