Vaccine announcement was delayed to scupper Trump’s second term

This is what Donald Trump is claiming. And I have to say, I’m no fan of Trump but the timing does seem very convenient. AIBU to think his suspicions may have some grounds?

But he's claiming that the election was rigged and he actually won? So in fact, Big Pharma failed. So it's all good.

DelphineWalsh · 24/11/2020 22:25

Why has the fake news filter not reached mumsnet yet?

Boom45 · 24/11/2020 22:26

If it was up to me I'd have delayed it, its not like he's helped during the pandemic is it? However I don't think there was one person making that decision or few enough people for there to not be one person in the room when that decision was taken who "was no trump supporter but" which would make sitting on that info more difficult

Dongdingdong · 24/11/2020 22:26

Trump was also scoffed at last month for claiming that a vaccine would be ready “within weeks”.

www.heraldscotland.com/news/18816418.presidential-debate-donald-trump-claims-coronavirus-vaccine-ready-going-announced-within-weeks/

Welker pointed out to Trump that experts have said it will take months before a vaccine is widely available and that masks will be needed until late 2021, echoing claims from the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Responding Trump said: “I think my timeline is going to be more accurate."

Hitting back, Joe Biden expressed doubt over Trump’s timeline for the release of a coronavirus vaccine.

Turns out he was right!

Doubt it's real

But

Fair play, the world needed him out!

So you think it’s acceptable for pharmaceutical companies to play politics?

Oh jesus fucking christ. OP, point me to one thing, ONE SINGLE THING that Trump has been responsible for, and subsequently proven to be right about. Just one thing. One thing. One single bastard thing Trump has had control of and been right about. Because he's no scientist. He's barely even sentient.

And again: why would pharmaceutical companies want Biden rather than Trump?

SpillingTheTea · 24/11/2020 22:31

Trump? Who's Trump? Wink.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 24/11/2020 22:32

I wouldn’t be surprised. I can see why pharmaceutical companies wouldn’t want a science denier in the White House.
However since other vaccines also reported within days it’s just as likely to be chance.

Oh no come on. He suggested injecting ourselves with bleach. Grin

Trump, unsurprisingly, produced no evidence to substantiate his claim. In the highly unlikely event that the scientists did delay for a few days until after the election, good for them. Some things are more important than the pandemic, and firing Trump is one of them.

Dongdingdong · 24/11/2020 22:33

@sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea He wasn’t responsible for it (not surprising, since he’s not a scientist working in a lab) but he was right about it:

Trump is now claiming credit for a rise in the stock market that came about because Emily Murphy finally authorised the transition to the Biden presidency.

www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/11/fact-check-no-evidence-supports-trump-s-claim-covid-19-vaccine-result-was-suppressed

There is no evidence WHATSOEVER that they held back the information for political reasons. Or any other reasons for that matter.

Dongdingdong · 24/11/2020 22:35

Trump, unsurprisingly, produced no evidence to substantiate his claim.

But he was right about it.

Scary how many posters are perfectly happy for pharmaceutical companies and big business to directly influence elections.

OP posts:
littlejalapeno · 24/11/2020 22:37

Well you could equally argue that had they announced it before the election it would’ve been playing politics. So they can’t win either way anyway.

They announced when they were ready. The companies are international and there’s a whole world of people who just don’t care about what’s going on with American politics. Billions of them.

Sorry you’re not going to drum up much support for that contemptible narcissist here. I wish trump and his supporters would put their country first instead of playing identity politics and clutching at straws like spoilt children. Trump lost, Biden won and now it’s time for republicans to find some common ground with democrats and independents and move forward together.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 24/11/2020 22:39

I really don't care, do you?

YABU.

Pfizer is a publicly traded company (as are Moderna and BioNTech). When companies have information such as vaccine data which could affect their share price they are bound by the regulators to disclose it as soon as possible. If they'd deliberately withheld it became known, they would have been closed down by the SEC.

However much you may despite Trump, this isn't going to be worth the grief.

Dongdingdong · 24/11/2020 22:40

Well that’s a fair point (and the first one I’ve seen on this thread).

OP, I mean this very kindly. But you're clearly spending too much time online. There's a lovely performance of The Snow Queen ballet on iPlayer, why not make a nice big hot chocolate, snuggle under a blanket and just turn 4chan or The War Room or wherever it is you're sourcing your news, and just relax?
