To ask DP to stop farting on the new sofa?

Foundmy · 23/11/2020 17:53

Not the most pleasant topic but our last sofa was really stinky where my DP sat (same spot all the time). Every time he sat down there’s be a woosh of stale fart/cabbage smell & I could smell it at other times too. I hate it! I’m pregnant as well so I can smell everything even more now!

The new sofa is starting to go the same way I’ve asked him to stop farting on the sofa & to plump up the cushion & flip it occasionally but he’s not too happy about this! 😁

Anyone else have the same issue? Any ideas too for how to combat this? The sofa has been treated with anti stain stuff so I don’t think we’re meant to wipe it down. I also tried febreeze sprays on the last sofa but it didn’t cut it.

Sock drawer😂😂😂.

Imagine🤢

TheQueef · 23/11/2020 18:13

Sounds like he needs to wash his arse better.

Dishwashersaurous · 23/11/2020 18:14

Sort out his diet. This is not normal or healthy

Mummymug · 23/11/2020 18:17

I think I've found your Christmas present for him....www.myshreddies.com/

Glitterblue · 23/11/2020 18:18

DD reckons DH's chair stinks of farts but I don't know if she's joking, I can't smell anything 🤔

Understandingnotignorance · 23/11/2020 18:19

😂

FurrySlipperBoots · 23/11/2020 18:20

If he can't control his wind he should look at his diet and make some serious changes.

PamwichShilling · 23/11/2020 18:22

Wtf? Are you sure he's not sharting into the sofa?
Absolutely rank!
Not too happy about flipping the cushions? He should be apologising and ensuring it doesn't happen again. Does he expect you to put up with a sofa that stinks of shit?
Perhaps he can go and buy himself a plastic cover so he can fart until his hearts content.

butterpuffed · 23/11/2020 18:24

Tell him sit on a cushion.

charliebear78 · 23/11/2020 18:25

I am going to sniff where I sit now!!!! I am a bit windy >Blushes

JacobReesMogadishu · 23/11/2020 18:28

Make him sit on a towel!

justthecat · 23/11/2020 18:29

Tell him to get some manners and control himself or he can have the bench in the garden.
In the garden 🥶

slipperywhensparticus · 23/11/2020 18:32

Unzip it and put a bicarb layer on top of the cushion?

Or one of those fresh disc things for hoovers?

Lenor unstoppables? In a little bag like Mrs hinch?

CHiPS1971 · 23/11/2020 18:34

This is not about fart smell. This is about peoples personal odours and scents.

Op, your DP/DH has an odour, like us all. When we connect with someone, we connect partly on personal odour. Your DP/DH has an odour that clearly repulses you now.

I do not think your DP is farting, i think he is just generally sitting on furniture and leaving his scent. I suspect his scent is turning you off.

Begs the question why is he your DP , if his scent offends you now? You are pregnant so could be connected?

I suspect the issue here is not your partner but more your reaction to his scent? He has always smelt that way ( unless your partners combined diet with you, has changed).

Something has clearly changed in how you now perceive your partners smell. You are expecting ,so you must have been attracted his "smell" before!

He has most likely always smelt this way. Something has changed. His smell is turning you off now.

Maybe pregnancy? Maybe something else?

DryRoastPeanut · 23/11/2020 18:36

Whilst you have my every sympathy, you can’t expect your DH to go outside every time he needs to fart!

It’s his home too, and if you can’t relax enough to fart on your own sofa in your own home then life’s seriously mixed up.

Throw a washable throw over his side and spray with something nice regularly. Wash the throw with Unstoppables.
Only ask him to exit the room for omissions if you’re also willing to go outside for a fart too. Who knows, maybe in years to come farting indoors will be looked at like smoking indoors is looked at now. But as much as you think he stinks I can guarantee you, nobody thinks yours smell of lavender and roses either.

Fart absorbing underwear. Do I win?

DCIHoops · 23/11/2020 18:37

@Givemeabreak88

Wow it’s time’s like this when I’m glad I’m single.
That was my first thought too!
Leflic · 23/11/2020 18:37

@LemonPeonies

Farts are natural.
So is belching but there’s a time and place. Aside from the odd one that’s a total surprise most are preventable. Sort his diet and his manners.

@Glitterblue DD reckons DH's chair stinks of farts but I don't know if she's joking, I can't smell anything 🤔

This supports my theory. I think it is a sexual smell. You cannot smell it Glitter as as you are attracted to DH.

DD will smell what you can not!

madcatladyforever · 23/11/2020 18:39

This post had made me think again about looking for another partner. Vile.

Jocasta2018 · 23/11/2020 18:39

Laughter in the time of lockdown...

Fart-stinking sofas and taxidermy pangolin bowls.

Thank you Mumsnet!!!

No it’s about farting for so much over a long period, the methane (I assume) embeds itself into the sponge of the cushion. It’s very grim and like I said I used to have a housemate many moons ago who made a sofa stink like this ☹️
Nannewnannew · 23/11/2020 18:40

Does the sofa have removable covers on the seats? If so, could you put a puppy training pad inside to absorb the odour and change it every few days?

Spidey66 · 23/11/2020 18:41

Can't you just put Febreze on it?

AudTheDeepMinded · 23/11/2020 18:43

@Spidey66 I'd squirt it straight up the source personally!
