Is Jo Malone perfume worth it?

I received some Jo Malone inspired wax melts and was thinking that my children could club together get me some perfume at Christmas. Is it worth it? If any of you have a Jo Malone perfume could you recommend one? I like clean fresh fragrances.

It's worth it if you like the scent. Otherwise no.

Primark do some very good dupes, I’ve read on MN that they are nicer than the real deal.

No

Hayeahnobut · 22/11/2020 19:30

Also Perfume Parlour do excellent dupes, and they let people leave reviews so you can get feedback before choosing. They get very busy so order sooner rather than later.

lovepickledlimes · 22/11/2020 19:31

So so so worth it. Love their stuff

I've constantly bought JM Black Pomegranate (pomegranate noir?) for the last 15 years. It's not my 'favourite favourite' but it's a consistently fresh, clean scent that I return to. It's not cheap but its cheaper than some frankly foul designer house perfumes. Also it doesn't change in quality. A lot of the classic fragrances like Mitsouko and Joy change their ingredients all the time so now they smell nice for 10 minutes and then turn into cats piss. Also btw thankyou Loccitane for turning L'eau de Paris, one of my favourites, into toilet duck fragrance 5 years ago.

Go for it IMO Smile

DorisDances · 22/11/2020 19:47

I used to have them but prefer the Liz Earle ones now

rawlikesushi · 22/11/2020 20:07

Lovely fragrances that really last.

I use mine sparingly and can smell it all day, the same after work as it was when freshly applied.

The shower gel and body lotion is the same.

Tried all of the dupes recommended here - smell lovely but don't last.

Squirrelblanket · 22/11/2020 20:17

I buy the copies from Perfume Parlour. They are really good, always get commented on and a fraction of the price.

AuntyMabelandPippin · 22/11/2020 20:18

I love the lime, basil and mandarin, and the grapefruit fragrances, they're both lovely light ones, which suit me.

Squirrelblanket · 22/11/2020 20:19

Just to add, the copies I've bought last ages. I can still smell them at the end of the day/next day. People buying the full price JM versions will tell you different to justify why they are paying £££ needlessly. Grin

EmilySpinach · 22/11/2020 20:21

Depends what you mean by worth it. They are colognes, so some of the weakest concentrations of fragrance. Ml for ml Jo Malone cologne is almost as expensive as Chanel eau de parfum and I honestly can’t see any justification why. The Perfume Parlour dupes are excellent and very accurate but obviously don’t have the lovely bottles, packaging etc.

onepieceoflollipop · 22/11/2020 20:22

I had a primark version of pomegranate noir - it was fine but nowhere near as good

I had a dupe of mimosa and cardamom - Jenny glow. It was quite nice but not the same

Ahorsecalledseptember · 22/11/2020 20:34

Wild bluebell and red roses are both LOVELY.

BananaPop2020 · 22/11/2020 20:38

Honestly, they are worth every penny.

KenAdams · 22/11/2020 20:41

No they're owned by L'Oréal now. Try Miller Harris instead.

billy1966 · 22/11/2020 20:42

I don't believe so.
They are fine.
Haven't bought them, received as presents.

EmilySpinach · 22/11/2020 20:43

@KenAdams

No they're owned by L'Oréal now. Try Miller Harris instead.
Yes, Jo Malone herself now has nothing to do with the Jo Malone brand. She has a new(ish) line now called Jo Loves.
Bluewavescrashing · 22/11/2020 20:45

I prefer Molton Brown fragrance.

standupsitdownturnaround · 22/11/2020 20:46

Perfume parlour is brilliant and indistinguishable from originals (blind smell test on Tom Ford dupe)

The scents last beautifully, particularly the pure oil roller balls.

They do 3ml rollers of each send tor about £3 so you can try

JojoLapin · 22/11/2020 20:48

@KenAdams Estee Lauder owns Jo Malone, not L’Oreal. L’Oreal’s portfolio of brands is rather amazing too. Being owned by a larger company does mean it impacts the quality or premium positioning of a brand or product.

DuzzyFuck · 22/11/2020 20:48

I wear peony and blush suede for special occasions (only ever get it as a gift, can't justify the price for day to day) and I LOVE it.

To be fair I've not tried duplicates but I've had a lot of different perfumes over the years both dirt cheap and expensive and the Jo Malone one is the only one I consistently get complimented on. It's my happy smell.

cheeseandpineapple · 22/11/2020 21:10

I used to love Jo Malone but have noticed that after a few months the scent can be quite chemical. Someone I know in the beauty industry told me that since JM has been bought by Estée Lauder, over time, they’ve reduced the amount of essential oils. If you don’t use the colognes fast enough they end up smelling quite chemical. I’ve definitely notified a change in the last couple of years. It’s a shame. The brand was bought a few years ago and been fine until recently. A bit like Cadburys being bought by Kraft/Mondelez and the chocolate taste changing.

The intense range of JM in the dark bottles might be ok. Or avoid large bottles of the classic scents and go with a smaller bottle that you’re likely to finish more quickly before it decomposes.

cheeseandpineapple · 22/11/2020 21:11

Noticed not notified a change but maybe I should notify Estée Lauder of my experience!

CommanderBurnham · 22/11/2020 21:24

I just don't like them. It's personal I guess. I've tried a few times but just don't get them.
