Are they just relaxing restrictions on pubs or are we totally coming out of lockdown?

I think back to tiers but an additional tier 4 which will be more or less lockdown.

cabbageking · 22/11/2020 02:03

I think they will extend the restrictions.

Dongdingdong · 22/11/2020 02:18

What tier was London in before lockdown? I can’t even remember. The whole thing is such a crock of shit.

AcornAutumn · 22/11/2020 08:42

The whole of London was in Tier 2, including Croydon as it’s a London borough.

All bar two counties of Essex were also in Tier 2. As Mercy pointed out, some of those areas had the lowest rates on the country.

AcornAutumn · 22/11/2020 08:43

*parts of Essex, not counties!

JacobReesMogadishu · 22/11/2020 08:46

Well yes, but I don't trust Boris. Out of lockdown and it could be the majority of the country are in tier 3 or even a new tier 4.

But of course he can still say its not lockdown because some rural parts may be in tier 1 or 2.

AcornAutumn · 22/11/2020 08:56

It’s just lockdown by another name.

Dongdingdong · 22/11/2020 09:00

@AcornAutumn thanks. So assuming we come out of lockdown on the 2nd, do we think London will be tier 2 or 3?

cologne4711 · 22/11/2020 09:02

According to the Sunday Times there will be three tiers again, 1 and 2 will be stricter than before and most areas will be in tiers 2 or 3.

So there will be some easing, small groups allowed outside and I think swimming pools and gyms open even in tier three? The main restrictions are on household mixing and hospitality.

I did hear someone saying that rather than a rule of 6 indoors it should be two households. That makes sense to me, but I hope they don't say that outside as well.

MarshaBradyo · 22/11/2020 09:02

Tiers so not out of it

GreenlandTheMovie · 22/11/2020 09:03

Who knows what it will mean in practice, other than more uncertainty over our continual erosion of basic civil liberties and efforts to keep the population in fear.

London hasn't been that badly hit this time round so I imagine tier 2 though it will probably be stricter.

cologne4711 · 22/11/2020 09:04

I was in tier one before but we have a lot more cases now so I imagine it will be tier two here.

cologne4711 · 22/11/2020 09:04

And "compulsory" vaccination with vaccination passports needed if you want to return to normal life.
GooseWhiskers · 22/11/2020 09:08

I’ve read that the curfew will be moved to 11pm with last orders at 10 to try and stop everyone leaving at the same time - so that’s good news!

@andadietcoke I live in Cheshire East and our numbers last week were very promising, down to 192 (177 less than previous week!)

Desperately hoping for tier 2 although I suppose the new figures this week will be part of deciding factor.

Washimal · 22/11/2020 09:11

Regardless of what the new Tier system looks like, if they allow multiple households to mix for a week over Christmas as reported in the Telegraph then January will be an absolute shit-show and we will all be facing much tougher and longer restrictions.

MiaMarshmallows · 22/11/2020 09:14

If shops, gyms and pubs open again then the only thing they can be stricter about is households mixing. As I say, I just hope 1 or 2 households can mix as that will be devastating for myself and my partner who live away from each other and who are not single households so can't even form a bubble. It's so tough for us not knowing if it's only 5 days we can have together at Christmas. We love the run up to Christmas but now it looks like we cannot spend it together.

I must admit, I don’t know what tier 3 means. But I sense they will move the goalposts again and I’d be surprised if they allow bars etc to open.

If they do, it’s a safe bet they’ll be closed till end March. Furlough is till end of March.

I’ve found that being pessimistic has served me well during this. I was literally on the ledge at the start but at least it means that after mandatory masks in June, I haven’t had any nasty shocks.

So do bear in mind, my predictions are always going to be worst case and based on the length of the Act.

AcornAutumn · 22/11/2020 09:18

PS I think Jan, Feb, March are full lockdown regardless of Xmas mixing,

Requinblanc · 22/11/2020 09:18

England is coming out of lockdown on 2nd Dec but will move to tiers according to today's papers, which makes sense.

It allows Johnson to say that the lockdown is technically over but some regions will still be into tough tier restrictions....

LittleDoritt · 22/11/2020 09:20

People are so confused, overwhelmed and fed up that compliance will be low no matter what the Government decide.

MiaMarshmallows · 22/11/2020 09:23

It won't be full lockdown.Confused
As I said, I have read that everything is going to reopen in terms of shops etc so the only thing they will be strict on I imagine is the opening of gyms and beauty salons as well as no mixing of households.
Personally, I think Boris will allow everyone to do as they please during Christmas week but ban household mixing or certain numbers in indoor settings throughout the rest of the time.

AcornAutumn · 22/11/2020 09:24

@LittleDoritt

People are so confused, overwhelmed and fed up that compliance will be low no matter what the Government decide.
In terms of confusion, mum has an 85 year old friend who has had various friends visiting. She has carers four times daily and was baffled when she asked me and mum to visit and we said “we can’t, it’s illegal”.

She’s a retired GP. Not stupid, and her care needs are physical, she’s mentally sharp.

So she’s been accidentally not complying and was horrified that no one else had told her!

PurpleDaisies · 22/11/2020 09:25

@AcornAutumn

PS I think Jan, Feb, March are full lockdown regardless of Xmas mixing,
As in schools closed, all shops except essential closed, no mixing at at all?
AcornAutumn · 22/11/2020 09:39

Purple - yes, so what we have now.

The thing is, compliance has been really high. Protests have been minor - big up to those who go, I’m not brave enough to deal with large crowds and possibly violence so I thank those who do.

But there’s been so little sign of unhappiness, I can’t see what would stop government doing this.

And Johnson has given a huge £ boost to the armed forces, not a coincidence.
