Anyone else could happily live on veggies?!

It’s an odd one. I’ll grant you that!

But anyone else really love veggies above any other type of food.
Steamed broccoli
Steamed Brussels sprouts
Courgetti
Carrots etc

I’m underweight but always have been, as is all my family. I don’t have veggies for breakfast (muesli / porridge / scrambled egg that kind of thing), lunch is soup or a chicken salad or a salmon wrap, snacks are fruit and nuts (could happily live off fruit too I think but the sugar stops me!), but come dinner I often cook up a vat of steamed veg and just enjoy ploughing through. So flavourful. I’ll always incorporate something else but only because I have to in order not to lose weight.... something like chickpea curry, salmon fillet and rice etc. But veg is just so delisch!!

Am I alone?
My visiting cousin says.... weirdo! (Fondly I hasten to add!)

I wasn’t too bothered as I had a veg dish but when it got to my pudding and I got profiteroles instead of a lovely looking chocolate tart I was not impressed.
Did anyone swap?
(I'm not sure why I would judge what someone was going to eat by gender? What about trans or non binary? )
My friend went on a 10 hour flight and booked vegetarian meals.one "meal" was an apple, another was a salad (with a tiny bottle of olive oil) . I think (thankfully) they had some snacks with them.

PurpleDaisies · 22/11/2020 19:18

Why did you mention you were underweight in your opening post? What’s that got to do with anything?

kennelmaid · 22/11/2020 19:19

Yes, I love fruit/vegetables/nuts and I could happily live on them for ever.

MrsMigginsMate · 22/11/2020 19:23

I fail to see what your weight has to do with anything? I agree with PPs that this is a weird humble brag. Why else would you mention your weight and the rest of the healthy foods you eat?

Surely if the post was just about liking veggies it would simply say "does anyone else love a good plate of steamed veg?" and nothing more. Your weight is completely irrelevant....except you seem to want everyone to know about it.

Excuse me while I retrieve my eyes from the back of my sockets.

Agree, you beat me to it!

@Gimmeveg

What??

Oh come one.

I also enjoy chocolate ice cream and lots of coffee.

Better?

So you don't "just" live on veggies then. Confused
saveforthat · 22/11/2020 19:26

What's with the veggies? I hate this term is it too much trouble to type vegetable. If it is, please use veg which is the traditional abbreviation (unless you live in Australia).

ilikebooksandplants · 22/11/2020 19:27

I don’t think you’re being unreasonable OP. I love veg too. One of our favourite dishes to cook is escalivada which is basically just a pile of roasted veg. With bread and butter and glass of red wine, food of the gods!

willowmelangell · 22/11/2020 19:28

Oooh I do love my veg. I've got homemade cream of mushroom soup in my slow cooker. That has chicken stock in. I don't think I could go vegetarian though. Maybe pescatarian.
I stoutly maintain that steamed baby leeks are the finest veg ever.

Spelunking · 22/11/2020 19:34

@Fizbosshoes Did anyone swap?

At the time I was quite pregnant and I’d had to wait through over an hour of speeches to go to the toilet and then they were a trek away so people had already started eating them by the time I got back. I still don’t get why we had different desserts. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m trying to think what the mains were but I do seem to recall they were split red/white meat.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 22/11/2020 19:38

Great ideas here! I have added pesto mayo to my roast veg for lunch tomorrow, I'll have it at room temp with some hallloumi, thanks for the idea.

blackkitty1234 · 22/11/2020 20:17

Love veg but it has to be cooked. Steamed is nice, but I prefer roasted with garlic and herbs. I’m vegan but I really dislike salad.

Buggritbuggrit · 23/11/2020 01:39

Vegetables are probably the bulk of my diet, but the idea of a plate of steamed unseasoned vegetables makes me quite depressed. I cook vegetable based dishes - so a lovely bowl of pasta alla norma, turmeric rice and bhindi bhaji, roasted chickpea and spinach curry. I like and use spices.

I’m not vegetarian, I eat meat/seafood/chicken. I just eat vegetable based meals more often. As does my (male) DP. I don’t like most fruit, though.

Cherrytangfastic · 24/11/2020 16:56

For anyone that hasn't discovered it yet- Winiary garlic sauce at Tesco. In the world foods section. Heaven with a plate full of veg, and just about anything else too!

Best sauce ever.

nosswith · 24/11/2020 16:58

I will not criticise those who do, but it's not for me.

scentedgeranium · 24/11/2020 19:06

I love veg! After a run of unhealthy food, say after I've been out a lot or on holiday I crave a steamer full of leeks and dark cabbage and peas mmmm yummy.
I was the only child in my primary school who'd go up for seconds of cabbage. Weirdo right?
Tonight we're having lamb and I can honestly say I cold take it or leave it with all those fatty groobly bits (grooble is a word in our house which means a cross between fatty and gristly).

Lighteninginabottle27 · 24/11/2020 19:42

I've been cooking extra veg, sprouts, carrot and swede, broccoli, mash etc and having it warmed through for lunch with a couple of slices of grilled halloumi and a dallop of cranberry sauce.
I adore winter veg and always do about 6 veg with Sunday dinner which nobody else appreciates!

Icenii · 24/11/2020 20:34

We do extra vegetables for a Sunday roast, so garlic roasted potatoes, honeyed carrots, red onions and parsnips, sprouts, spring green etc then have them as bubble and squeak the next day with poached eggs on top.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 24/11/2020 20:57

Yum lightening!
