Anyone else could happily live on veggies?!

It’s an odd one. I’ll grant you that!

But anyone else really love veggies above any other type of food.
Steamed broccoli
Steamed Brussels sprouts
Courgetti
Carrots etc

I’m underweight but always have been, as is all my family. I don’t have veggies for breakfast (muesli / porridge / scrambled egg that kind of thing), lunch is soup or a chicken salad or a salmon wrap, snacks are fruit and nuts (could happily live off fruit too I think but the sugar stops me!), but come dinner I often cook up a vat of steamed veg and just enjoy ploughing through. So flavourful. I’ll always incorporate something else but only because I have to in order not to lose weight.... something like chickpea curry, salmon fillet and rice etc. But veg is just so delisch!!

Am I alone?
My visiting cousin says.... weirdo! (Fondly I hasten to add!)

Vegetables not veggies. Cringe!

Gimmeveg · 21/11/2020 17:44

@MyGazeboisLeaking

I'm veggie, and one of my favourite meals is 2 Linda McCartney sausages, two stuffing balls, an entire pan of steamed carrots, green beans, cauliflower and sweetcorn.

Smothered with veggie gravy..

With Dijon mustard and cranberry sauce!

So not that healthy but my favourite.

That’s sounds delicious other than the stuffing balls!

"Can't bear hearing women say how they don't eat red meat as if it's somehow to manly for them to go near. If anything women need red meat for the iron more than men do."

@formerbabe who mentioned women? Confused I was talking about the trend towards going vegan in both sexes as well as the environmental factors.

I eat less red meat than I used to through choice but it's got fuck all to do with men or my iron levels!

SlopesOff · 21/11/2020 17:44

Steamed veg is not flavourful

It is flavourful, but sometimes people don't taste it. We are so used to all the added flavourings in food that the simple flavours are not noticeable any more. Some people just don't like vegetables in the same way that others don't like meat.

Look at all the garlic powder, spices, onion powder, cheese powder, salt, sugars and other shit that is listed on packets and give your tastebuds a break.

I am on a restricted diet for the time being, steamed veg tastes how veg should taste. Sometimes my dinner is carrots, broccoli and potatoes and I am perfectly happy with that. Or pasta & broccoli with olive oil.

In summer I live on salads.

And fruit.

I do have long ears and noticeable front teeth though.

Hangingover · 21/11/2020 17:46

You can live on fruits and veggies (in one incarnation or another), vegans do it, it's fab Grin

formerbabe · 21/11/2020 17:48

I look at a plate of veggies the way my husband looks at a steak

@myhobbyisouting. May I draw your attention to this comment by a pp.

ClinkeyMonkey · 21/11/2020 17:48

I don't think I could exist on vegetables alone, but I absolutely love them and would miss them more than any other food group if I couldn't have them. Unfortunately though, there is a dedicated crisp department in my stomach which needs to be stocked up every day so, alas, I am not slim, despite my love of vegetables.

TrinityWaves · 21/11/2020 17:49

No, aha, probably why I'm a fat cow!

Farewelltoqualms · 21/11/2020 17:49

I find that most people who dislike vegetables haven't had them cooked properly.

I absolutely love them and would eat them almost exclusively if (a) I wasn't married to man who loves meat and (b) my colon could tolerate eating vegetables exclusively but it just makes me ill. I do much better when I eat lots of vegetables with a modest amount of meat and carbs.

MustardMitt · 21/11/2020 17:49

I could not live on steamed veg. It tastes of nothing.

As an aside, I really really detest the word ‘flavourful’.

SlopesOff · 21/11/2020 17:50

@Treacletoots

The best bit of a carvery is all the veg. You're not alone.
Agree with this. I would get a plate of veg & gravy and take the meat home for my friend.
dottiedodah · 21/11/2020 17:51

Do you work for the British Broccoli Society! Honestly I try and struggle with 5 a day .Like some veggies .Runner Beans .courgettes ,carrots .All fruit OK ,but really dont care for lettuce /Broccoli or onions . Sorry I agree with your Cousin !

formerbabe · 21/11/2020 17:51

And don't tell me its not a feminist issue...when did you ever hear a non vegan man say how he could live off steamed veg as its so delish..?

Bloodypunkrockers · 21/11/2020 17:52

Veggies
Delisch
Flavourful

All that's missing is a "yum"

We eat fish & green vegetables most evenings

Tealuver · 21/11/2020 17:54

I hate veg and only eat it when I absolutely have to. But that is why I'm fat! Grin

MostDisputesDieAndNoOneShoots · 21/11/2020 17:57

I mean, yeah I do like vegetables and I’m a pescatarian so I don’t eat meat besides fish but it would be pushing it a bit to say I just love steaming up a plate of delicious plain broccoli and ploughing through it in the same way I like to plough my way through a plate of spring rolls, curry sauce and prawn toast or a plate of roast potatoes and gravy or a plate of fancy crisps.

BiBabbles · 21/11/2020 17:58

Well, one of my favourite lunches is a salad wrap and veg tends to be one of my favourite parts of a meal, I even include it in my breakfast most of the time (a good salsa works great in scrambled eggs or oatmeal) - but like you describe in your OP, I wouldn't live off of it (the breakfasts, chicken, salmon, rice, chickpeas...). I wouldn't be able to keep my nutritional or calorie uptake up enough if I only ate veg and I'd lose some of the dressings and toppings.

Much like being overweight, the health problems tend to come in the long term. I was underweight until my late twenties (I worked to get up to 8 stone for pregnancies, but quickly dropped once sickness started). It was then the health problems started. It took years before the depth of the damage caused was really found and I'm still dealing with the consequences. My case is more severe - multiple pregnancies sped up the process - but it's not unusual for those underweight to deal with a whole host of issues in later years. Osteoporosis and sarcopenia are particularly a concern.

Dillo10 · 21/11/2020 18:01

I love veg but either needs to be steamed then mixed with bit of butter and salt, or roasted in olive oil, garlic and herbs.

cologne4711 · 21/11/2020 18:03

Yes I like vegetables but am quite fussy about which ones. I prefer them raw, happily eat carrots, cauliflower etc raw (and broccoli stalks) - less keen on cooked veg unless there's a nice sauce or gravy.

I happily snack on carrots and tomatoes (yes I know they're technically fruit).

But I think I would get bored not eating any sort of meat or dairy, I love cheese, I need milk in coffee/tea and I like chicken, turkey and fish and chips.

nokidshere · 21/11/2020 18:05

I like all sorts of crap to eat as well as veg but I don't think I could say steamed veg is flavourful.

Roasted cauliflower and roasted sprouts are the food of the gods though.

Crystal87 · 21/11/2020 18:07

I like veg as part of a meal. It's boring on it's own and I'd still be starving after.

Fizbosshoes · 21/11/2020 18:08

I like vegetables (most of them) but wouldnt want to only eat them.
I'm amazed were on page 3 and no ones mentioned the potential for strong winds on a vegetable-only diet including chickpeas and beans.... or am I the only one that childish?
Grin

howmanyroads · 21/11/2020 18:10

I looooove vegetables but the thought of them steamed with nothing on makes me quite sad, what a waste

myhobbyisouting · 21/11/2020 18:11

@formerbabe as you quoted me, it appeared you believed I was saying it's "normal for women". Which I wasn't.

However....I did not see this comment. For fucks sake 🤦🏽‍♀️
