I can’t believe PM has backed Patel! When she’s been found to be a bully I’m bloody furious!!!

Yeah fuck the people shes bullied and the careers shes ruined cos shes a woman. Thats the sort of 'feminism' that seems to be taking over on here.
I don't think the PP meant it like that. They seemed to be pointing out the double standards. It starts in childhood- girls are "talkative" and boys show "confident leadership skills" etc.
TheSpottedZebra · 20/11/2020 12:29

I used to work with Priti- she was AWFUL. The only thing that surprises me about the bullying claim is she was seemingly too lazy to actually do anything.

ItWasTheBestOfTimes · 20/11/2020 12:29

I’m very glad the civil service have been uncooperative, her ideas on ‘dealing’ with refugees are inhumane. She even considered installing a wave machine in the channel tunnel ffs. The fact she continues to refer to lawyers as lefty do-gooder activists in official communications despite knowing there has been an uptick in violence against immigration lawyers means she is also unfit for public office.

LilyRose88 · 20/11/2020 12:30

Sadly I am not surprised. Bullying seems to be tolerated in so many places. I was bullied in my last job by a very senior man. I made a complaint, it was upheld, and my job was amended so that I did not come into close contact with the bully. He was left in place and there were no repercussions for him.

Tellmetruth4 · 20/11/2020 12:32

@switswooo. I wasn’t painting Biden as a saint at all. Other than knowing he’s not as batshit as Trump, I don’t know much about him. However, I I believe his election win ended Cummings tenure so think if he picked up the phone to Johnson reminding him we need a trade deal and by the way get rid of that anti-Irish Home Secretary, she’d be number 1 to go in January’s cabinet reshuffle.

tortoiseshell1985 · 20/11/2020 12:32

Why surprised. Its known this is a corrupt going
Look at the ppe contracts scandal to start with
Apparently if a govt minister is found in breach of the Code unheard of they stay in post
Until now
This is why I am convinced civil liberties will not be restored

tortoiseshell1985 · 20/11/2020 12:32

Government not going

user1471565182 · 20/11/2020 12:33

Biden doesnt even seem to know Ireland isnt part of Britain so I'll take his claims of being some sort of hardcore irish american with a pinch of salt. Glad hes beaten il Douche so I can finally lay into him.

user1471565182 · 20/11/2020 12:34

No matter what contortions or double standards need to be met, middle class rich women will always be excused of anything on here.

Pumkinseed · 20/11/2020 12:34

Does that mean that Carrie like Priti Patel?

toconclude · 20/11/2020 12:35

@TheQueef

Why? It's hardly frowned upon by Conservatives.
Or by Corbynites.
PoorMansPaulaRadcliffe · 20/11/2020 12:35

The UK civil service isn't uncooperative with Tories. It's uncooperative with the terminally stupid and incompetent. Which she is. The only interesting feminist slant to this is - would this behaviour be seen as acceptable if she were a man and good at her job? As she's neither, it's hard to know.

dotmckee · 20/11/2020 12:37

For those saying that she would be praised for just being forceful and direct if she was a man, there was a payoff for her previous victim who attempted suicide after working for her - this seems to go way beyond a woman merely wanting to appear strong and tough.

Sounds like a horrendous person to work for. Entirely unsurprised Boris is willing to back her unfortunately.

user1471565182 · 20/11/2020 12:38

'BUT CORBYN' klaxon.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 20/11/2020 12:38

Angry, but not surprised. He's got form for backing his mates in the most unreasonable circumstances - remember Cummings?

you wouldn't believe the (now corrected) typos in two short lines
got started life as "git"
his as "fist"
whatever was I thinking Grin

switswooo · 20/11/2020 12:39

What are you on about? Saying women are accused of bullying for behaviour that is seen as 'firm leadership' by men doesn't mean she is being excused.

PoorMansPaulaRadcliffe · 20/11/2020 12:40

@user1471565182

'BUT CORBYN' klaxon.
It came later than I'd expected, actually . . . 🙄
longwayoff · 20/11/2020 12:43

She may be quietly kind, pp, but so quietly as to never have been noticed by anyone else.

MyPersona · 20/11/2020 12:43

@PlanDeRaccordement

I do wonder that if Patel were a man, there would be no accusations of bullying. A man would be admired for his “forceful personality” and “firm leadership”. It’s sad but true that many subordinates will accept a strong management style from a man but not from a woman and call her a bully, aggressive, etc.
Yep, first thing I thought too. She’s female and not from ‘the right background’. These are senior career civil servants.

I don’t believe them.

plumpootle · 20/11/2020 12:43

I'm not surprised but it is distressing. I don't know where we go as a society if there is no taking of responsibility or sense of shame / duty from our leaders.

BaileysforBreakfast · 20/11/2020 12:44

I made a complaint, it was upheld, and my job was amended so that I did not come into close contact with the bully. He was left in place and there were no repercussions for him.
Similar story here except my bully was a female and I was redeployed after complaining. She was promoted a couple of years later, despite the department she managed having exceptionally high staff turnover and stress-related sickness rates.

newusername2009 · 20/11/2020 12:46

I find it difficult to believe that the ethnic minority woman should be held up as the example of a bully. Workplaces are still so sexist and I agree with all those saying if this was a man would the issue have been raised or just viewed differently and as more acceptable. Women are held to different standards and whilst it might not be that her behaviour is not right surely this should be a wider issue.

TicTacTwo · 20/11/2020 12:47

I wonder how she compares with her male cabinet colleagues? I can't imagine these men are much different?

BaileysforBreakfast · 20/11/2020 12:50

'BUT CORBYN' klaxon.
It's hilarious, isn't it? No argument, so just invoke Corbyn.

MarjorytheTrashHeap · 20/11/2020 12:50

So it's agreed that she broke the ministerial code but it's deemed ok because she did it "unknowingly"? Like she didn't realise it isn't ok to bully the people who work for her?
