Enough already! Delusional, depraved, but DEFEATED. We may have to wait until Jan 20th but 45 will be GONE. McConnell is next...

@DuncinToffee

Covid could help him out here, an extended spell in isolation...
If I were Trump, I would very seriously be looking at countries that don't have extradition treaties with the US for a place to "recuperate" ...

I hear North Korea can be nice.

DuncinToffee · 24/11/2020 14:23

North Korea, hmmm 'shall we play a game.'

maggiethecat · 24/11/2020 14:32

He'll not concede but he will make some grand statement about considering the country even as he whinges about the steal.

His mini me surrogates will, sans a shred of shame, go on air to praise his heroism in acting in the country's best interests whilst peddling the vast vote switching scandal.

AcrossthePond55 · 24/11/2020 14:48

@DGRossetti

I don't know what or if can be done. I suppose the 'lower down' people can delay and obstruct the wrecking of the aircraft or the sale of parts.

If nothing can be done, then there is an argument that the US is deserving what it gets.

Part of the reason we all got here (as the UK isn't a million miles away) is people forgetting the exhortations of the founding fathers.

The price of liberty is eternal vigilance

Trump - and Boris - are what you get when complacency sets in.

I can't say I completely disagree with you. A lot of the last four years can be put down to decades of complacency and apathy. If nothing else, I hope this has been a 'HYUGE' wake up call to people everywhere who value living in a free and equal society.

As far as deserving what we get, IDK. Neither the truly downtrodden nor the people who are simply trying to live aware and principled lives in both in US and the UK deserved what they've gotten. But for those of us who took things for granted, maybe we/they did.

DGRossetti · 24/11/2020 14:52

A lot of the last four years can be put down to decades of complacency and apathy.

And the creation of a society where a pop concert cures the ill of the week. Starting with Live Aid and culminating in todays "Well I liked and shared a post so that's solved world poverty. Or Black Lives Matter. etc etc"

BruceAndNosh · 24/11/2020 14:59

I agree that Trump will spin him standing down as some great selfless gesture for the good of the country as he is such a patriot.
Him running in 2024 depends on what the GOP does with itself over the next three years

BruceAndNosh · 24/11/2020 15:56

I'm trying to guess which Trump crony will turn up in a turkey suit for this afternoon's Pre Thanksgiving Turkey pardon

I've got my fingers crossed that Trump refuses to leave and they have to remove him. Preferably out the front door with all the World's media watching. I would pay good money for that.

With the condition that no one from Trump's side starts a riot of course.

Well, it has been a good day. I still think Emily Murphy should be called to account though.

Reading her letter, it seems she and Trump are well suited to each other. There is a lot of ego in that letter. All that was needed was "Dear Joe, here you go."

Every Republic really needs a Cicero.

DGRossetti · 24/11/2020 17:12

Every Republic really needs a Cicero.
Which reminds me how quiet it appears to have been over the 57th anniversary of Kennedys assassination ....

Ultimately Cicero achieved nothing.

user1471565182 · 24/11/2020 17:21

Cicero did get some corrupt PiecesOS strangled in the Tullianum, and lets not pretend Trump is anywhere near the standard of Julius Caesar. Cicero would have torn him and Rudy to pieces.

BTW ive just read The Storm Before the Storm by Somebody I Cant Remember Who, but it really shows how weaknesses are built into a system created for the rich. Basically a free for all aristocracy, except in roman times they actually managed more social mobility than in the modern US version.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy"

Funnily enough those constitutional monarchies the founding fathers had so much to say about are looking like the better bet now
