my next door neighbours have been playing very loud happy hardcore SHIT since i went out of the house at half 9 this morning. i'm now trying to get ds down for a nap, but all we can hear is their FUCKING SHIT music! i know i can't really go and ask them to turn it down - it's daylight and they're entitled to play their CRAP but it's making me hate them (and i haven't even met them yet!)

You can go and ask them. Just politely explain that you have a baby and would appreciate it if they could turn it down so that he can sleep.

serendippity · 18/10/2007 13:05

YNBU- my next door neighbour used to do that, i sent dp round to talk to him (i am a coward) and explain that we didn't mind but could he keep it down between 12.00 and 2.00pm as it was dd's nap, he was fine about it, try that!

Skyler · 18/10/2007 13:05

Yes you can ask them to turn it down. I would. YANBU.

madamez · 18/10/2007 13:08

It's not alwasy easy to tell how far sound from your own house carries into neighboruing houses. So if you sk them politely to turn it down for an hour or two they may very well say yes, of course, and be reasonable. But if you go in shouting at them and slagging off their taste, then they are less likely to want to oblige you...

aDadGoneMad · 18/10/2007 13:08

You are right to hate them - happy hardcore fgs. That is the worst, and could have a lasting impact on your ds.

LilBloodRedWantsGore · 18/10/2007 13:09

If they do decline and become a pain you can always contact their landlor (if they have one) or the environment agency.

colditz · 18/10/2007 13:10

Just be nice - you are asking them a favour and as long as you package it as that, most people will gladly oblige.

theUrbanDevil · 18/10/2007 13:11

well i just popped round there an introduced myself, and explained, and she said they only had the music up so loud because ds was crying. i explained he was crying because he was tired and needed his nap (he is very grumpy at the moment) and she said if he was that tired he'd go to sleep and shut the door in my face! i'm literally speechless with how rude she was!

gingerninja · 18/10/2007 13:12

I don't think it'd be unreasonable to ask them to turn it down. You're entitled to have some peace in your own home during day light hours. I'm sure I've heard of people getting ASBOS for it. You do have to ask them though and give them the opportunity to appologise, if they're not responsive then do something about it else it'll eat you up.

colditz · 18/10/2007 13:12

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH then you are entitled to be rageful.

theUrbanDevil · 18/10/2007 13:13

aDad - you are absolutely right, being exposed to happy hardcore at this age has been proved to have a lasting effect!

i don't know which agency they rent through, it's a Polish one, and I don't speak Polish (oddly enough)

am seriously considering phoning environment agency. you can hear it from the street ffs!

OP posts:
gingerninja · 18/10/2007 13:14

xposted sorry, lordy what a bitch. There are so many ways I'd want to get my own back but none of them would do any good.

Perhaps go around when it's quiet and you're calmer see if you can talk about it rationally? Is that an option?

RGPargy · 18/10/2007 13:14

YABU!!! There's nothing wrong with Hardcore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(but nevertheless, you should ask them to turn it down for your LO so also YANBU )

EffiePerine · 18/10/2007 13:15

Def complain. In the meantime, will your DS nap if you take him out? It's a lovely day out there...

newgirl · 18/10/2007 13:15

what a horrid neighbour

lots of sympathy to you

i did call the environment agency once and they said it has to be regular disturbances eg pub noise but it could be worth a call

does she own the property? can you call a landlord?

or take ds out in pram just this once as its a lovely day?

aDadGoneMad · 18/10/2007 13:15

That is a rude response from them! And a bad sign from new neighbours unfortunately.

serendippity · 18/10/2007 13:16

[shock' yep call the environment agancy, and start a noise log.

theUrbanDevil · 18/10/2007 13:16

gingerninja - i might pop over again later when i'm a bit calmer. i'm too angry to do anything right now - don't want to do something i'll regret (like chucking load of dirty nappies in their garden) i really wanted to get on with them - they seemed friendly enough when they were moving in, i waved at them from my path and they waved back. i like getting on with my neigbours (the last lot were really lovely )

RGPargy · 18/10/2007 13:16

Urban - just seen your other posts!! what a bitch!!!

theUrbanDevil · 18/10/2007 13:17

oooh it's stopped now......

OP posts:
RGPargy · 18/10/2007 13:17

Yay!!!!!

theUrbanDevil · 18/10/2007 13:18

hmm, i might pop over later when ds is in bed and explain that i didn't mean to cause offence. english obviously wasn't her first language, so maybe she was being abrupt without realising it...

OP posts:
Wisteria · 18/10/2007 13:22

People who like Happy Hardcore generally hate Metallica btw not to mention they may need a lobotomy.

What about the rest of the neighbours? Can you enlist their support? It's very difficult as now she has proved herself to be a completely unreasonable person it's not going to matter what you do. Can you write her a note and ask politely again if she would mind keeping it down between nap hours?

Call the police and complain & keep a log, I know she isn't breaking the law but if you ask them they may be willing to pay a visit and that may have the desired effect.

DabblesInDarknessWithALightOn · 18/10/2007 13:23

hav eonly read OP but if it is unreasonable, then make a log of it and phone environemtnal noise people...

if thye cant even play decent music, u r in your right to complain!!

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 18/10/2007 13:26

stop slagging off hardcore

you were not being urneasonable asking them to turn it down, she gave a rude response as well, so try again later.
