AIBU to spend £84 on takeaway coffees in three weeks?

So I’ve checked my online banking today to add up how much I’ve spent on takeaway coffee since I last got paid.

84 bloody pound

What on earth?

I have been going more due to not having much else to do but Christ that is a serious waste of money.

I was planning to go tomorrow but now I can’t justify it.

Not sure what other things I can treat myself to (that isn’t a massive waste) to keep me going .. any suggestions?

Has anyone else had a bigger waste of money than that lately?

Oh sorry @JMG1234 I see you've already replied about his coffees, 2 to a cup. My phone didn't load the last section of the thread.

Nearly choked on my wine gums then! Seriously seems a lot to me ,I dont drink coffee though. If you can afford it and it makes your day why not .For those saying buy a Thermos flask ,its not really the same though is it! Caffe Nero do a card with I think 9 free coffees, and the 10th one free.So one free one per fortnight or 10 working days .Apart from the cost ,a lot of caffeine here, esp if you have more during the day/eve as well.

If you have the money and love coffee, crack on. There's no problem. I'm jealous though. I can't drink coffee at all without palpitations and I would really love some!

dottiedodah · 19/11/2020 14:52

ekidmcxl Same here(reason I gave up ) Loove the smell of fresh coffee beans as well! Find Hot Choc a good alternative .Also decaff tea at home ,and a nice cup of Peppermint or Fennel when I feel like a change!

I have a Nespresso machine and I bulk buy blonde roast Starbucks pods online. I make my own flavoured coffee creamer (currently on a batch of pumpkin spice creamer Grin) and I make an iced latte every morning. It works out at about 50p a drink and tastes just as good as shop-bought!

grassisjeweled · 19/11/2020 15:03

You're not even sitting in!

trevorandsimon · 19/11/2020 18:09

@icecreamcrackers

I obviously charge far to little in my cafe/takeaway. £1 a coffee and £1.50 for latte or cappuccino.

Try a smaller shop to reduce your spend maybe?

You do charge too little. That's really very cheap. How can you make money on that?
BackforGood · 19/11/2020 22:14

That Pret deal would be great if you lived or worked near one Smile

I've just checked, and sadly, I don't.

dizzy125 · 20/11/2020 17:54

A decent coffee machine and a flask.

Tararararara · 20/11/2020 17:55

@dizzy125

We've just bought a sage one thinking it would save us money. It's bloody fantastic but we are spending a fortune on beans!
gentilleprof · 20/11/2020 17:58

Was it nice proper coffee from a lovely cafe or was it just Starbucks/Costa type.? There is nothing wrong with going to cafes everyday or taking away. Personally, I think it's nicer to sit in. If I didn't have time, I would just take a flask. Although I don't think coffee tastes nice in a flask. I tend to have a coffee before work (espresso) and one when I get home. I take tea in two flasks - one Earl Grey and one Lemon and Ginger.

TheKeatingFive · 20/11/2020 18:03

So in the middle of national lockdown you're going out for daily coffee shop coffee. Totally not unreasonable at all

Here we fucking go. 🙄

Everyone’s over this shtick now, didn’t you get the memo dear?

Sushi123 · 20/11/2020 18:08

I dread to think what I spend on wine 😱

SmoggieC · 20/11/2020 18:16

Life's too short don't worry about it, especially if it's from a delicious independent, even better

FelicisNox · 20/11/2020 18:23

If you can afford it don't worry about it.

I spent £120 a month in takeaways during the last lockdown, needless to say I'm not doing it this time!

Barney60 · 20/11/2020 18:23

WOW HUGE amount to me, but my budgets low, cant you buy a little bullet flask make your own and just go for walk. personally id rather save it and buy something nice with it.

PurpleDaisies · 20/11/2020 18:24

personally id rather save it and buy something nice with it.

Coffee is my something nice!

Zerowillpower · 20/11/2020 18:35

Think about how much you’re not spending on other pleasures like eating out, going for drinks, etc! X

WendyE · 20/11/2020 18:47

😲Whoa I'm truly shocked. If I was you I would be wondering how else I could have better spent £84!
Coffee for three weeks for me would be a jar of Gold Blend for about £6 if you shop around, and a working kettle.
The remaining £78 would be spent on something I had to show for it, such as a couple pairs of shoes, a winter coat, or some new clothes perhaps.😎

PortalooSunset · 20/11/2020 18:49

I have. Filled my (petrol) car with diesel. Full tank. Had to pay 45 quid for that and then another 200 to have it drained and cleaned. Then I had to fill up with, y'know, actual petrol. So yeah, best part of 300 quid for a few moments inattentiveness.

I'd rather have spent it on coffee Grin

Skyliner001 · 20/11/2020 18:52

Yes

Orangecake123 · 20/11/2020 18:59

If you can afford it enjoy it OP.

HerculesMuligan · 20/11/2020 19:05

I think as long as you’re spending the money knowingly it’s absolutely fine. Now you’re fully aware you spend that amount on coffee, think whether that’s the best use of your money, and if it is - carry on as you are!

It’s all horses for courses. I really enjoy getting a takeaway coffee (often with an almond croissant...) most days. It brightens up boring monotonous work from home days, and I can afford it. Everyone has different priorities and preferences, for example for me spending £50+ at the hairdresser every 2 months would feel a ridiculous amount of money, but I know a lot of people choose to spend their money this way.

My only issue with my takeaway coffee habit is that nowhere is currently accepting reusable cups, and I feel guilty getting through so many disposable ones.

Oneeata · 20/11/2020 19:10

Yes.

Vinomummyinlockdown · 20/11/2020 20:25

If it’s a juicy wonderful Nero I will excuse it and wish I could indulge once again (can’t have coffee for health reasons)
