Just that really, never had it before but wondering if I should this year. I’m in my 30s.

Always have since I became officially eligible in my mid 20s (asthma). I had flu once, I was a previously fit & healthy 22 year old & I'd never felt so ill. It took me several weeks to fully recover. I had my annual jab today, thank goodness - I always worry they'll run out.

pinkbalconyrailing · 18/11/2020 21:12

yes. every year through my work.

GlowingOrb · 18/11/2020 21:15

Not me, because it has triggered awful multi-day migraines a few times. Everyone else in my household gets one.

GrrrrrrArghhhhh · 18/11/2020 21:16

I started to get it privately the year it dawned on me that my XH qualified for it for free for medical reasons and the kids all got it at school so I was the only family member not being protected. Yet, if I got ill I'd have had to just grin and bear it for the most part which is impossible with flu so thought it was worth paying for.

Now get it free from work.

Never had any side effects.

frustrationcentral · 18/11/2020 21:17

I always have my flu jab - without fail as I'm asthmatic. I'm rubbish at anything else medical though so behind with dentist check ups, Smear etc..

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/11/2020 21:19

No, I don't have one. I'm 30.

ChelseeDagger · 18/11/2020 21:19

No, I work in the field of medicine and as I have a large number of disparate and seemingly unrelated autoimmume disorders on both sides of my gene pool I give all vaccines a very wide berth.

didireallysaythat · 18/11/2020 21:21

Yes. No underlying medical conditions. I don't get it for my sake though.

ghostyslovesheets · 18/11/2020 21:22

Getting mine this weekend as I have CKD

SomelikeitHoth · 18/11/2020 21:23

When my dad was ill I was vising him so I had the flu jab for 3 years in a row. Every time I was terribly poorly with flu.
Couldn't leave bed for a week and then it took another couple of weeks to feel somewhat better. Never again !

Retiremental · 18/11/2020 21:23

Yes I get it through work.
I’ve had flu twice in my life and it took months to cover each time. I was young, healthy and had no underlying conditions.

FangsForTheMemory · 18/11/2020 21:23

Yep cos asthma.

VeryQuaintIrene · 18/11/2020 21:24

I had it for the first time this year. I'm 56 and my immune system has been excellent, but this year it seemed smart to get one. My arm hurt a bit for a couple of days but that was it.

Lweji · 18/11/2020 21:26

There seems to be a shortage, and I'm leaving it to people who may need it more.
Plus, I'm hoping there won't be much flu due to covid prevention measures, as it happened in the Southern Hemisphere.

I haven't had the jab for decades and have only had maybe flu a couple of times, and it wasn't too bad. I'm 49.

pinkyboots1 · 18/11/2020 21:29

I always have it, as do the rest of the family. I really don't want them (or me) to get the flu and leave ourselves poorly and at even more risk from Covid.

Dogsandbabies · 18/11/2020 21:35

I do every year. 37, fit but caught the flu a few years ago and since then I always get it.

And so do my kids.

VetiverAndLavender · 18/11/2020 21:38

Some strains of the flu can be serious even if you are apparently otherwise healthy. It's worth doing.

I think I've only had the flu once, as a child. I was lucky and didn't have a bad case, but still remember the fever and chills and just feeling really strange.

Ponoka7 · 18/11/2020 21:48

@Hothammock, the flu jab is less effective in the over 60's, on a downwards sliding scale, as age increases. It's because it triggers an immune response and older people have less of a response. This is why we need the younger population to be vaccinated.

ddl1 · 18/11/2020 21:49

Yes.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 18/11/2020 21:55

I do. I'm not yet 30 but I had a horrific bout of flu 2 years ago and I've made sure to have the jab since and I will do going forward. I never want to be that ill again (and I've spent a lot of time in hospital... this was worse)

nbee84 · 18/11/2020 21:56

Yes, every year as I'm asthmatic. I've had flu twice - once as a teenager, I was in bed for 1 week and once 11 years ago I went down with flu 2 days before my vaccination was due. I spent 10 days in bed only crawling to the bathroom and another 3 weeks of feeling very lethargic and weak.
Side effects from the vaccination have ranged from none at all to a 12 or 24 hour period of feeling a bit under the weather. Oh and a sore arm for a day or 2 Grin

JustAnotherUserinParadise · 18/11/2020 22:06

yes! This year I got it free as I'm pregnant, but have paid for it the last 4 years (£12.99 at boots, worth every penny).
I work in a University, and was sick of getting freshers flu every single year! - and then again in January. I used to have a constant cold every winter from about september-feb but now just get the odd one!

JustAnotherUserinParadise · 18/11/2020 22:06

I also made DH have it this year - he's not keen on injections but I said I need him to look after me when I'm pregnant so he can't get flu!

DramaAlpaca · 18/11/2020 22:09

Yes, I get it every year. I had no side effects whatsoever this year.

DollyD65 · 18/11/2020 22:17

Yes, and pneumonia vaccine. Ex nurse and very pro vaccinations. Both my boys have had it through work in NHS and local gov respectively. We will all have the covid vac when it becomes available too. I don't understand anti vaccine standpoint at all I'm afraid.
