To have accidentally left out a box of breast pads?

Disclaimer: I am not living in the UK.

So I have been having some landlord drama of late. They are currently selling the property we rent. I have been keeping the place neat and tidy for them to do this which has been hard with a 3 month old baby and because we are packing to move out.

Yesterday I accidentally left a box of breast pads near the bathroom sink. They are normally in the bathroom cupboard but I had put them to onside as I wanted to donate the box as I never used them.
In the rush to clean up and move our packing boxes to one side I just forgot about them.

After the open house the agent mentioned that it was inappropriate to leave those on the bathroom counter. It might have made some potential buyers feel uncomfortable. AIBU to think that this surely isn't a big deal?

Oh people have been opening up cupboards during the open houses - so they would have seen them even if I had put them away anyway!

Agent is a dick.

Wingedharpy · 18/11/2020 02:33

I doubt anyone would be so "uncomfortable" that it would put them off buying a property.

If it makes you feel any better OP, DH's new boss once called on us at home, unexpectedly and in the course of the visit, used the bathroom. Wasn't until after he'd gone and I went to loo myself that I realised I'd left a pair of period damaged knickers soaking in the sink!😲😲😲

God knows how he washed his hands.

justilou1 · 18/11/2020 02:40

Ffs, you LIVE there... they’re not syringes or condoms. Surely you also have a bassinet or a cot as well. Jeebus, what a nit-picking git. I think if you want to freak them out you can write back that complaining about breastfeeding is an illegal offense and if they wish to take it further, you wish them luck...

Blueberries0112 · 18/11/2020 02:45

Everyone should know it was an accident

PyongyangKipperbang · 18/11/2020 02:46

YANBU but I would be interested to know which country you are in.

chickenyhead · 18/11/2020 02:47

He is an idiot.

A gimp mask and sex swing maybe, breast pads, meh!

StoppinBy · 18/11/2020 02:51

What an idiot. It's a box of clean breast pads.

Would he find it offensive if you left a container of cotton balls or cotton buds on the counter because I don't really see the difference.

Sunshine1235 · 18/11/2020 02:53

Feel uncomfortable? What because of a box with the word breast on it? How shocking!

RantyAnty · 18/11/2020 02:55

Agent needs to mind his own business. Misogynistic dolt.

FortunesFave · 18/11/2020 03:04

Complain in writing about their comment! How DARE they!

chatwoo · 18/11/2020 03:05

This is the same bunch of idiots that wanted your home 'show home ready' - whilst you're still renting it and they want to show potential buyers around? And you're in Australia?

I think you know what to do by now..... IGNORE !! Please stop trying to second gues everything because of these peoples' actions and comments Flowers

FortunesFave · 18/11/2020 03:06

It's likely you don't even have to allow viewings! I once stopped viewings due to a rude woman in the agent's office telling me "You MUST weed that front step immediately!" in a school teacher voice...she was about ten years younger than me too!

It was one dandelion! And she was standing there waiting for me to do her bidding! I shut the door in her face and wrote to her boss immediately.

chatwoo · 18/11/2020 03:08

Also please say something TO THEM when they make a snide comment. We can't help you after they've been rude, but there are plenty around who can help you get ready for the next (seemingly inevitable) set of comments Grin

Decorate your tree with these for next time.

Agent is a dick.

I was thinking of what to write but I think this post from a pp sums it up nicely.

I’m in Australia. I was just shocked to be honest. I could maybe understand if they were used

Agent is a dick

Yes.

And since I am currently I’m the process of leaving one flat and finding another (not my choice), I’m going to say that 90% of agents are dicks.

Especially the one that sent a reminder about an open house this morning and then didn’t show up to show 10 people around at lunchtime. They did however send a text message cancelling 10 minutes into the 15 minute viewing slot. That was only sent because I called three and asked where the agent was and pointed out the major fucking inconvenience they had caused to 10 people in the middle of day, many of whom had to take time off work and drive some distance to get there.

Bastards.

Also, if an estate agent said that to me, I would tell them they should feel free to postpone all viewings and inspections until I had moved out if my personal belongings offended them.

I would tell them in writing and I would copy it to their boss and then I would cook liver and onions before every viewing.

Bastards.

Zippetydoodahzippetyay · 18/11/2020 03:23

Omg in Australia? I am in Aus and when I read your OP I was expecting you to be based in a hundred other places before here!

The agent is a complete dick head. Do not apologise. You need to present the house neatly and cleanly but if they want it looking like no one lives there then they need to wait until you've moved out before advertising. As if any serious buyer would be offended or put off by something like that.

WattleOn · 18/11/2020 03:24

I’m also in Australia.

Are you aware of the regulations around viewings? You can place limits on the number of people coming and the times of viewings (varies from state to state). And you do not need to clean or tidy any more than normal before a viewing.

I think you should start cooking liver and onions!

Your agent is a dick. So many real estate agents in my part of Aus are so I’m not at all surprised.
bananabread2000 · 18/11/2020 04:06

I'm also in Australia and the agent is completely in the wrong here. You have enough to deal with looking after your baby, if the landlord wants the place perfect they can provide you with a free cleaner or wait until the property is vacant.
Depending on which state you're in there will be a government website which sets out your rights as a tenant and gives advice on how open viewings etc should be handled. (I had a bad experience with a landlord and the NSW NCAT site was very helpful and easy to follow).

GlowingOrb · 18/11/2020 04:11

Why are you worrying about making the place show ready at all? You have a 3 month old.

Needsakickupthearse · 18/11/2020 04:12

Utterly ridiculous. Take no notice.

Christ, imagine if you'd left out a box of tampons. The agent might have fainted from shock Hmm

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 18/11/2020 04:17

Once when viewing a property I saw, in the kitchen, a packet of Co-Op Cream Crackers blatently left out on the work top. I mean to say, Co-op!!!
Needless to say I terminated the viewing pretty sharply and moved on to the next property.
Co-op!!! Shock
