To have accidentally left out a box of breast pads?

Disclaimer: I am not living in the UK.

So I have been having some landlord drama of late. They are currently selling the property we rent. I have been keeping the place neat and tidy for them to do this which has been hard with a 3 month old baby and because we are packing to move out.

Yesterday I accidentally left a box of breast pads near the bathroom sink. They are normally in the bathroom cupboard but I had put them to onside as I wanted to donate the box as I never used them.
In the rush to clean up and move our packing boxes to one side I just forgot about them.

After the open house the agent mentioned that it was inappropriate to leave those on the bathroom counter. It might have made some potential buyers feel uncomfortable. AIBU to think that this surely isn't a big deal?

Thanks everyone, seems I wasn't be unreasonable!

Yes, I think if I had accidentally left some unused tampons or pads out the agent may have fainted in shock! It could be cultural as the agent doesn't speak english fluently but still.

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

Once when viewing a property I saw, in the kitchen, a packet of Co-Op Cream Crackers blatently left out on the work top. I mean to say, Co-op!!! Needless to say I terminated the viewing pretty sharply and moved on to the next property. Co-op!!! Shock
😂

Complete and utter dick of an agent. I want to slap his silly head.
I'm in Australia and work tangentially in real estate. Let me tell you -- potential buyers don't give a stuff about breast pads, tampons, your choice of reading material in the bookcase, whatever. They are looking at, or for, quality of cabinetry, water damage, sloping floors, rotting window frames and whether the kitchen and bathroom need an immediate upgrade. They are looking for a north-facing garden, preferably with a shed and laneway access. They want good schools and transport nearby. Tenants' belongings and choice of decoration interest them NOT AT ALL.
I'm sorry you got this embarrassing feedback from the stupid agent. Unnecessary and, frankly, not your problem.

flaviaritt · 18/11/2020 05:01

“Okay. I understand, and of course you don’t need to be exposed to that again. Please resume viewings after my tenancy has ended.”

jessstan1 · 18/11/2020 05:12

@cantthinkofauniquename

Agent is a dick.
Agree 100%.
MinimumChips · 18/11/2020 05:12

OP I’m in Australia and was in a rented property that was sold while we lived there a few years ago. In NSW all you have to do is keep the premises in a reasonable level of tidiness for the inspections, no more. You can’t unreasonably refuse inspections but you can refuse open houses and instead demand that all inspections are by appointment. Breast pads by the sink are not unreasonable. I would just ignore the agent. Speak to the tenants advisory service in your state if the agent starts to get pushy. I’d be leaving out a pack of maternity pads alongside the breast pads next time, but I am petty!

Nottherealslimshady · 18/11/2020 06:39

Oh no! Something that is meant to touch your nipple! The horror!!
Not like you left a dildo out.
Start leaving tampons out, that'll give him a heart attack.

HedgieHog · 18/11/2020 06:42

I was moving out of my small flat, private landlord who used to send her mum around, we got told off for having washing drying, it was winter, what were we meant to do?!

Pinot4me · 18/11/2020 06:57

That’s ridiculous! Tell the agent they are welcome to pay for a cleaner prior to every viewing if they would like it in a ‘show home’ condition.

Greenhairbrush · 18/11/2020 07:04

That’s ridiculous. Thank god you didn’t leave out tampons or Tena Lady as well. Shock

SavoyCabbage · 18/11/2020 07:09

That's nothing!

When we were having our agent round for our inspection he saw our family photos and told me that I should have informed them that my husband was black.

We were then evicted.

BinkyandBunty · 18/11/2020 07:09

Next inspection you need to be sitting in plain sight actually breastfeeding. The agent's head will explode.

Perhaps your partner could also sit around in his underpants scratching his balls.

groovergirl · 18/11/2020 07:14

@SavoyCabbage How absolutely appalling. What time and place does the agent think he is living in -- 1940s London? I want to gouge his eyes out.
Hope you found a better place to live.

Littleposh · 18/11/2020 07:16

Tell the estate agent to fuck off

RinderTinderNotRinderGrinder · 18/11/2020 07:38

Check out your state’s rules around viewings and then respond with:

I’d hate to put buyers off so I agree that it’s best to halt all viewings until after we’ve moved out.

And then negotiate them down to providing you with a free cleaner before any viewings and only having them when it suits you. This is your home and I suspect they’re taking advantage of your good nature.

Utter plonkers. You were doing so much more than most tenants do. I remember viewing houses with dirty dishes left out on the floor! The tenants were not interested in the owners needing to sell.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 18/11/2020 07:50

I’d tell the agent to fuck off and insist that someone else handles the viewings from know on, that you will not be allowing him in the flat.

Since when we’re breast pads offensive. Twat

HooverWhenTheCoastIsClear · 18/11/2020 07:58

Urgh.
I hate viewing houses where some absolute pervert has just left breast pads out. A whole box of them. How could I explain this to my child?
I like to also go through every cupboard on a viewing and expect anything obscene like sanitary products yo be hidden in a secret box at the top of the wardrobe.

Australia open houses are mad.
Honestly op I'd just start refusing them.
Say one per week, appointment only.
Blame pandemic if you like.
I'd not be doing these fools any favours.

flaviaritt · 18/11/2020 08:02

When we were having our agent round for our inspection he saw our family photos and told me that I should have informed them that my husband was black.

Shock
switswooo · 18/11/2020 08:12

What are your rights as a tenant? Here in the UK you don’t have to allow viewings.

violetbunny · 18/11/2020 08:16

Did he comment on the toilet paper in the bathroom too? Thought not. What a dick.

violetbunny · 18/11/2020 08:18

I think next time I'd be tempted to leave out a giant vibrator and some lube just to make a point GrinWink

SWLondonTown · 18/11/2020 08:18

Most men won’t even know what they are! Just see a pic of baby on a box and think nothing of it

Oreservoir · 18/11/2020 08:24

@SavoyCabbage I'm absolutely horrified.
Did you have any legal redress?
That is just appalling .

GoogleWhacked · 18/11/2020 08:28

@ChristmasStocckings

I’m in Australia. I was just shocked to be honest. I could maybe understand if they were used
I did not expect you to say you're in Australia, I seriously expected UAE or something!

Yanbu! No idea who has voted that you are Confused

OrigamiPenguinArmy · 18/11/2020 08:30

I’m trying to picture the thought process. “I found the perfect property, in my budget, right location, right size, ticks all the boxes, but I won’t be putting in an offer because there was a packet of unused breast pads by the sink.”
