To have accidentally left out a box of breast pads?

Disclaimer: I am not living in the UK.

So I have been having some landlord drama of late. They are currently selling the property we rent. I have been keeping the place neat and tidy for them to do this which has been hard with a 3 month old baby and because we are packing to move out.

Yesterday I accidentally left a box of breast pads near the bathroom sink. They are normally in the bathroom cupboard but I had put them to onside as I wanted to donate the box as I never used them.
In the rush to clean up and move our packing boxes to one side I just forgot about them.

After the open house the agent mentioned that it was inappropriate to leave those on the bathroom counter. It might have made some potential buyers feel uncomfortable. AIBU to think that this surely isn't a big deal?

Make bunting out of them for the next time he brings someone round, see how he likes that!

WattleOn · 18/11/2020 10:12

@Shetoshe

I immediately thought Oz. They're so forward and literally say whatever comes into their heads over there! We had a similar situation when we lived there and the landlord was selling. It was such a pain in the arse having to leave the house every Saturday morning for weeks and weeks and ensuring the house was pristine. I was beyond flexible to start with but they took the piss so in the end I started limiting the viewings. You should do the same after that dickhead comment! Make sure to leave them out the next time. Perhaps scatter them about the place Grin
You don’t have to leave the house.

When we were renting and the landlord was selling, the agent had the temerity to complain we didn’t leave and that my DH was following people around - yes, they were opening cupboard doors and moving stuff around.

I’ve rented three different properties in Australia. Two crappy agents and one reasonably ok until he tried to insist we cleaned the carpets before we moved out. I won that argument.

Coffeeandaride · 18/11/2020 10:22

Ridiculous, a box of breast pads is not a big deal. Do people go into pharmacies and supermarkets and see packets of them and be unable to think straight and make purchases? No they don’t. Normal items in a commonly found location.

"Oh damn, I forgot the airer I left in the bathroom with my OLD/or sexy knickers on"

ChristmasStocckings · 18/11/2020 10:26

@WattleOn yes the agents also assumed that we would just leave the property whilst the inspections were happening. We have been very willing to accommodate but made it clear that at least one of us would stay for the inspections. We have a very shy pet so I was worried about leaving him unattended whilst strangers walk though our place.

Agents in Australia seem to be terrible a lot of the time. If you don’t know your rights they will just try and walk all over you.

I am curious as the two percent of people who think you are unreasonable - would they accept being told what they could have in their home?

I mean breast pads aren't offensive at all, but even if they were, why would it matter if during the period you have a legal right to call the property home you stored them in view. It causes no long term damage to the structure of the property.

CrazyPigeonLadyMarried2Trans · 18/11/2020 10:49

Typical misogyny. It's the same as when I read on twitter how one girls boyfriend told her to keep her period things hidden, because it might make his guy friends uncomfortable.

ChristmasStocckings · 18/11/2020 10:55

Look it might have been a cultural thing which I could understand but it still seems like a strange reaction. I’m glad to see I’m not being unreasonable. I think I’m to sleep deprived and stressed to judge what is unreasonable anymore.

I didn't know my mum was working as an estate agent in Australia. She'd tell you all sorts of tales about me displaying my sanitary towels on the side of the bath, and wantonly breastfeeding in public.

Anyway. You've got every right to leave whatever you want out. It's your home, you're paying to live there, and these people aren't invited guests whose opinion you care about.
Are you sure they are allowed to make you accommodate viewings while you're living there?

We’ll judge for you.

You are fine. They are wankers.

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 18/11/2020 11:03

There is no chance I would be told I had to leave my home every Saturday morning, or any time ever, to allow the landlord to show it. Did they even offer a rent reduction?

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 18/11/2020 11:04

Tell him to stick his outdated views up his arse and do not ever, ever try to tell you what you can and can't leave out in the home you are paying rent for. Tell him one more misogynistic comment like that will result in you leaving the house like a tip and making his job as difficult as possible. That should be in plain enough English for the twat to understand.

WattleOn · 18/11/2020 11:04

Which state are you in, ChristmasStocckings?

unmarkedbythat · 18/11/2020 11:07

Who are these poor, fragile people who cannot bear the sight of a box of breast pads?!

ChristmasStocckings · 18/11/2020 11:11

@WattleOn NSW unfortunately. This state seems to typically protect the landlord over renters.

@RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime no of course no rent reduction. Us poorly renters should just be thankful haha. The landlord was apparently shocked when we gave our notice.

@SavoyCabbage

That's nothing!

When we were having our agent round for our inspection he saw our family photos and told me that I should have informed them that my husband was black.

We were then evicted.

Shock
Lozz22 · 18/11/2020 11:14

@violetbunny

I think next time I'd be tempted to leave out a giant vibrator and some lube just to make a point GrinWink
I was just going to write the exact same thing!!
Brefugee · 18/11/2020 11:17

agent is a twat: leave out tampons as well next time.

Smallsteps88 · 18/11/2020 11:20

Oh I would have had some fun with that agent. I’d make him explain in great detail what exactly it was about my breast pads would make viewers uncomfortable. Were it not for COVID I’d go to his office to do it in person, hopefully with an audience.

Someone1987 · 18/11/2020 11:22

Sounds like he may be worried his house is not as sellable as he thought it would be, so is passing the 'blame' onto you.
A box of breast pads would not put a seller off, what a naive man.

Buy a massive dildo and leave it on the couch for the next visit

Alternatively ask if a viewer had raised it as an issue. I bet it is all in his mind.

ThistleWitch · 18/11/2020 11:36

hope they never go in a supermarket or chemist then? the things their poor eyes will see
