Positive Covid test but we have no food in!

ViralVera · 15/11/2020 00:15

I got a text at 10pm tonight to say the DS is positive for CV. He hasn’t really had symptoms but THREE members at his SN college tested positive earlier this week so he was sent home to isolate and I wanted to make sure as DH is a keyworker. I really didn’t think it would be positive.

I’m bloody furious that staff have passed it onto vulnerable students. DS is classed as CEV so has been taught to be very good with hygiene but the staff haven’t been wearing masks, and didn’t seem to adhering to 2m social distancing at his induction session, but that’s another thread.

This means the whole household needs to isolate from now obviously but we are a family of 6 (adults) and get through a LOT of food so I shop every 2/3 days. The next big shop was due to be tomorrow!

The earliest online delivery I can get is for Wednesday and we literally only have milk, eggs, chips, meat and rice/pasta but not enough for 4 days. No squash/bread/cereal/yoghurts/fruit/veg etc.

There is literally no one local we can ask. DH’s brother lives an hour away but his family also has Covid (not from us as we haven’t seen them for months).

It’ll be a lot of shopping for a volunteer to get, if I can find one.

I’ve booked the other 5 of us for a drive in tests tomorrow so I was thinking about me and DH double masking and scooting round Tesco chucking stuff in trolleys as quickly as possible straight afterwards.

Should we? If we have it tomorrow, we had it today too!

She is asking first before doing so though isn’t she? We are all telling her no. Stop ripping people apart.

Well yes but after an almost unanimous YABVU, don't do it she says this, so clearly isn't listening to any of the answers

*The chances of us infecting anyone in Tesco in minuscule with masks on, no cough or sneezing, just by walking past them. Unlike getting up close while working with vulnerable students with no masks on.

If you have acquaintances, ask them OP. Or pop a short appeal on a local fb group. You may get to actually get to know people that way too. During the last lockdown I went a did a shop for someone I vaguely know because they didn't want to take their dc to the shop (even though I had to take my dc to do so) most people are happy to help even virtual strangers in these times.

Sewrainbow · 15/11/2020 08:42

The rest of you shouldn't be getting a test unless you have symptoms. It wont change your situation and is another trip out the house. You all have tonusolate for 14 days anyway.

Try a local Facebook page or ring some shops to see if they will deliver.

AliasGrape · 15/11/2020 08:42

The sheer fucking hypocrisy of raging at the teachers and education staff when you chose to send your CEV into college during a pandemic (despite apparently having concerns at the induction?), knew there was a possibility of infection or else why would you book a test but didn’t think to stock up on case of a positive result, and are now happily contemplating going into a supermarket when you KNOW you’ve been exposed.

As everyone else has said - try Amazon pantry or prime now, your local COVID response group, nhs volunteers, sign up for deliveroo or Uber eats both of which are doing shopping deliveries, put a plea on one of the local Facebook groups, order take aways or just bloody manage on the food you listed which I’m sure could stretch if you put your mind to it.

As has been said though you’re clearly going to do exactly what you want and sod anyone else.

Snog · 15/11/2020 08:44

In my town you can get groceries delivered the same day (mostly within an hour or two) from the Coop, Waitrose, M&S, garage shops and lots of independent shops (butchers, bakers etc) via Deliveroo.

flaviaritt · 15/11/2020 08:44

Recent findings though are that the virus is not spread uniformly, and that 10 to 20% of sufferers are responsible for 80% of cases.

That’s true, isn’t it? But even with that said, there is very little evidence of it being spread in supermarkets or through brief contacts.

ddl1 · 15/11/2020 08:44

Have you tried the Nextdoor site for your area? Ours has lists of volunteers, and of shops that deliver locally.

PurpleDaisies · 15/11/2020 08:44

@W3dontdoduvets

Think op has gone now she’s, quite rightly, been handed her arse on a plate. What a grade A twat.
She’s probably in Tesco right now.
flaviaritt · 15/11/2020 08:45

And I’m not saying the OP should go. But this idea that she is going to kill hundreds of people by spending 20 minutes in a supermarket is utterly risible.

CountreeGurl · 15/11/2020 08:46

Do not go out when you should be isolating, this is one of the major reasons this is spreading and would be utterly selfish.
You have food in so won't starve before your delivery on Wednesday. You must know someone who could get you bare essentials we are only talking 2 days!

DeathMetalMum · 15/11/2020 08:47

In our area the following are doing deliveries other than supermarkets. Local butchers, local green grocers. A group of stores from the local market have got together to do deliveries ( cheese, fishmonger, butchers and fruit/veg). Milk and more or local milk man, even the local spar and CO-OP convenience stores are running deliveries. There will be a way of getting some food in somehow.

Snog · 15/11/2020 08:48

www.coop.co.uk/ways-to-shop/home-delivery

Your local Coop will deliver to you door in less than 2 hours if you spend more than £25

"The chances of us infecting anyone in Tesco in minuscule with masks on, no cough or sneezing, just by walking past them. "

ShockShockShock

I'm so shocked by your attitude. Disgraceful.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 15/11/2020 08:48

@BluebellsGreenbells

Are you saying you have 6 adults in the house and not one of you have a friend with transport? No one?
I'm boggling at the fact there are six adults in the house and not one of them with the sense to foresee this situation.
MadameBlobby · 15/11/2020 08:48

No it bloody well wouldn’t be ok to go round Tesco. You’ve said you get through tons of food so it wouldn’t be a scoot round.

Don’t you have any neighbours or friends? 6 adults or not you can’t need that much to last you a few days?

TJ17 · 15/11/2020 08:49

Sorry OP but how can you be "raging" that college staff passed it onto your DS yet you are willing to go spreading it round to every fucker in Tesco (including the vulnerable) with your DH like some kind of Covid supermarket sweep ?!!!

BluebellsGreenbells · 15/11/2020 08:50

I’m boggling at the anger of a teacher, and yet her son took 29 hours to get results and only now does she feel the need to shop

You knew this was coming.

asifiwould · 15/11/2020 08:50

It beggars belief that not only did the OP start this thread, but that currently about 50 MN users have voted that she is not being unreasonable. So, 50 households who would be prepared to be equally as selfish and irresponsible. No wonder the R rate is as high as it is. Sometimes I really dislike other people. But I take comfort in the 90 plus % who voted YABU - just as well the majority ARE looking out of the selfish minority hey?

MadameBlobby · 15/11/2020 08:51

Exactly!
slothtrot · 15/11/2020 08:52

Yabu to be so scathing about the college staff. As for your shopping well that's on you, if you have nobody to do shopping for you then you need to make sure you have well filled store cupboards in case of problems, I have nobody who could shop for me so I always have a built up supply of stuff so we could eat using store cupboard ingredients in case I lost my bank card and had no money or got ill etc. I'd be more sympathetic if you weren't being so inconsiderate towards others.

Would you like a Biscuit to keep you going ?

dancingpenguins · 15/11/2020 08:54

So you're raging at the staff that put themselves at risk every day so they your child can continue to have an education? Staff who often can't socially distance because of the level of care needed for students. They are absolute heroes and deserve your adoration not your anger. Have some compassion - these staff dedicate their lives to the care of their students, they absolutely will not have done this on purpose. You should be ashamed of your attitude!

CornflakeMum · 15/11/2020 08:54

You shouldn’t be going inside any supermarkets. If you really HAD TO the safer option is a click & collect where you drive up outside the store and collect your groceries which you have pre-ordered.

She's probably in Tesco with her husband at the moment!
HermioneWeasley · 15/11/2020 08:56

Op I haven’t read all 17 pages but in case nobody has mentioned it there are a few supermarkets on deliveroo doing the basics and Morrison’s have a next day doorstep delivery service

coffeeandgin26 · 15/11/2020 08:57

In my local
Small town someone put a Facebook status up in local selling groups asking for help walking dogs and getting some shopping when they had covid. They had pretty of offers (I walked their dog a few times)

MGMidget · 15/11/2020 08:57

You are trackable if you go out. Pay by card and its recorded. CCTV can pick you up. Look what happened to Dominic Cummings. You could end up in serious trouble if caught and even if not you could be responsible for someone’s untimely death or permanent damage to their body.
