Positive Covid test but we have no food in!

ViralVera · 15/11/2020 00:15

I got a text at 10pm tonight to say the DS is positive for CV. He hasn’t really had symptoms but THREE members at his SN college tested positive earlier this week so he was sent home to isolate and I wanted to make sure as DH is a keyworker. I really didn’t think it would be positive.

I’m bloody furious that staff have passed it onto vulnerable students. DS is classed as CEV so has been taught to be very good with hygiene but the staff haven’t been wearing masks, and didn’t seem to adhering to 2m social distancing at his induction session, but that’s another thread.

This means the whole household needs to isolate from now obviously but we are a family of 6 (adults) and get through a LOT of food so I shop every 2/3 days. The next big shop was due to be tomorrow!

The earliest online delivery I can get is for Wednesday and we literally only have milk, eggs, chips, meat and rice/pasta but not enough for 4 days. No squash/bread/cereal/yoghurts/fruit/veg etc.

There is literally no one local we can ask. DH’s brother lives an hour away but his family also has Covid (not from us as we haven’t seen them for months).

It’ll be a lot of shopping for a volunteer to get, if I can find one.

I’ve booked the other 5 of us for a drive in tests tomorrow so I was thinking about me and DH double masking and scooting round Tesco chucking stuff in trolleys as quickly as possible straight afterwards.

Should we? If we have it tomorrow, we had it today too!

OP, are you out of your mind?

No you can't go to the shops.

There is zero excuse for you voluntarily going around and spreading it. Zero.

Dogdaysarehere · 15/11/2020 06:57

Why did you even ask the question when you’ve clearly made up your mind to go away (as you’ve ignored or dismissed all of the helpful suggestions here). Did you expect most posters to tell you to go?

I’m quite relaxed about COVID (eg I don’t wash my shopping etc) and I still think you’re being completely selfish and unreasonable. If everyone thought the way that you do we would be living with restrictions for the foreseeable. Take some responsibility for goodness sake.

Heyahun · 15/11/2020 06:57

You get angry that the staff gave your son the virus - then suggest you go to the supermarket and possibly spread it around further ? Ridiculous

Can’t stand this blame stuff tbh - maybe you or your husband are asymptotic and gave it to him - you some know

And if you were that worried then maybe you shouldn’t have sent him to college - this was always a risk
🙄

And the award for being the biggest twat goes too @ViralVera

iwishiwasonhol · 15/11/2020 07:01

after the shift from hell yesterday working in a supermarket ,i can see why we have staff testing positive on a daily basis, if people think they can just scoot round tescos when they should be isolating, also you shouldnt be going to a drive in to get tested ,you should get a postal test as you should all be self isolating ,when track and trace contact you they will tell you that

Lostthefairytale · 15/11/2020 07:04

You are raging at others who you consider to be irresponsible based on a lot of assumptions yet you think it is OK to ignore the direction that you must isolate because you don't have any squash?? You decided that it was the right thing to do to get your asymptomatic son tested but didn't bother to get food in first. There are many solutions to this problem but your solution shouldn't even enter your mind as an option.

FourPlatinumRings · 15/11/2020 07:04

And the award for being the biggest twat goes too *@ViralVera*
No, that'd be madein from page 1, with this quote:

All the faff involved in calling councillors etc is ridiculous. Half hr trip to tesco then self isolate. I certainly wouldnt be fannying about calling local councillors, no matter what some MNetters say! Go to the shop op. Yanbu.

At least the OP asked.

movingonup20 · 15/11/2020 07:05

Btw prime now isn't available everywhere to those saying just use it - I couldn't even sign up for amazon groceries here!

Dopeyduck · 15/11/2020 07:07

No you can’t go out shopping. You need to use Deliveroo for the short term and get someone else to go and do a shop for you as soon as possible.

I can’t believe you’d go to a supermarket .... where I was yesterday with my baby because I can’t leave him at home!

It would be exceptionally rare for you to not have a single person organised or informal you could reach out to!

Even someone at the school would probably help.

peachesandclean · 15/11/2020 07:08

And people wonder why lockdown isn't working... good god

Morninglights · 15/11/2020 07:10

For OP and anyone reading thread looking at Prime Now, you need to download a separate app called Prime Now, it's quite separate from the main Amazon site I use for other stuff

It may look like no slots at first but they are released every two hours and in first lockdown when we were short we also managed to get one within 24 hours.

I'm not sure if it's available everywhere though.

Jakie7700 · 15/11/2020 07:12

@FourPlatinumRings
Yes it would be the OP as at least that poster doesn't have a CEV and 'raging' but happy to potentially pass on to others. Oh and not to mention breaking the law but hey it's ok as she asked first 🤔

chopc · 15/11/2020 07:12

OP - this is how Covid spreads. People thinking they will be ok scooting around Tesco's etc when they should be isolating.

You need to own this- if someone in your household has a Covid test there is a possibility it will be positive so you should have prepared. Yes no point saying after the event but you really need to isolate and try every Avenue possible.

Ask your local Facebook group/ school what's app group etc

itsgettingweird · 15/11/2020 07:13

@ViralVera

No click and collects available either.

Bit of a coincidence that 3 staff members test positive then DS gets it isn’t it Cookie? None of the rest of us have had symptoms. They are in his ‘bubble’. One of them for definite was in college on Monday, then got a positive test on Tuesday. I am fucking raging.

You need to work on your anger if you're raging that someone with a virus passed it on. This is a highly transmissible virus. It'll spread within a classroom even with masks and 2m distancing. That's why nhs staff have full FP3 masks and fluid resistant gowns and shields etc etc when in contact with patients.

Also the guidance from government is not to wear masks in classroom etc. It could be something as simple as walking into the classroom and touching the door handle after a positive staff member.
That positive staff member could have caught it in a bus to work - who has caught the bus to provide your son an education.

And the case in my SN setting is from a child who had a fever and who's parent have him paracetamol in the morning to disguise it and it flared again in the afternoon. Who then returned said child the following day with a fever on paracetamol which spiked again that afternoon - telling us that the child hadn't had a fever at all.
Now the staff have caught it and so yes they could be blamed for anymore spread because the child was never tested.

With regards shopping have a look at Sainsbury's as they have priority slots for ECV or look further a field at click and collect slots. More rural supermarkets always have slots I've found and I've had to travel 20-30 miles but it's been fine.

Peppafrig · 15/11/2020 07:14

Surely you can order some food in . Even greggs deliver now on just eat.

DetectiveRandySomething · 15/11/2020 07:16

Cracks me up that you're "fucking raging" about staff potentially giving it to your son but you're on about going round tesco? Can't you see the irony and double standards?

FourPlatinumRings · 15/11/2020 07:16

Well, yes tbh. OP clearly believes that masks are 100% protective and will prevent all coronavirus transmission. Hence she's upset that her son encountered people without them but sees no issue in going out herself with COVID, provided she's wearing a mask. She's misinformed about the efficacy of masks, so it's a good thing she asked if she would be unreasonable first, rather than just seeking her own council and doing it straight away. Given that she's misinformed about masks, I daresay she's also not aware of the guidance for teachers and the arguments against masks in schools, hence 'raging'. Lots of the population are misinformed about such things, sadly.

Bin85 · 15/11/2020 07:17

Does Amazon Fresh deliver in your area , they do same day deliveries?
Or ask a local church for help , it doesn't matter if you don't attend.

NoWordForFluffy · 15/11/2020 07:17

You've said upthread that you have Prime. Use that to get food.

Or Deliveroo (I haven't seen you comment on that option).

Or try Iceland as you can get next day almost every time.

You absolutely shouldn't go to Tesco, that would be hypocritical and unreasonable. Especially as you can definitely get food via Amazon while you're waiting for a delivery from the supermarket.

FourPlatinumRings · 15/11/2020 07:17

*counsel

NatalieH2220 · 15/11/2020 07:17

Please don't go to The supermarket to get food when you know you're infectious. This is so unfair on anyone you may come into contact with particularly those that would be vulnerable.

There are takeaways or online delivery options such as amazon to tide you over. Plenty of nice people who I'm sure would also help if you put a post on a local Facebook page. 30 miles isn't that far for someone to help you out in a car if that's the only option.

Pippa12 · 15/11/2020 07:24

Your raging at the college staff yet your knowingly going to tesco?

Your DH shouldn’t of been at work if your son was symptomatic/had a test

Actions like you have described are the sole reason we cannot get this virus under control... and your blaming the college staff for going to work... the more I think about this it has to be a wind up.

Sirzy · 15/11/2020 07:25

So your angry with the school staff for doing their job at a tough time and inadvertently passing the virus on but your willing to go to a supermarket knowing you should be isolating?

Surely if your Ds was still classed as CEV you would have been adviced to shield again? We certainly have been

ddarkobird · 15/11/2020 07:27

OP call your local council, they will have support in place to get a food shop done for you and delivered to your house.
I wouldn’t risk going to a shop, even the small chance that I might give it to a vulnerable person, it’s really really not worth it

Jakie7700 · 15/11/2020 07:28

@FourPlatinumRings
Yes it is highly disturbing that even after most of the year covid has been around people are still not educating themselves on how it's transmitted and how masks do not completly stop you passing it on. What is even worse is someone with a DC who is CEV would not take the time more so to make themself more aware. Either way ignorance is not a reason to break the law and let's just hope the poster now can see how unreasonable it is to go to Tesco and potentially infect others when this is exactly what they are raging about.
