AIBU to think this lockdown is pathetic

Why are so many places still open and not enforcing social distancing? I went to the garden centre today and they had a whole big Christmas section and it was packed, including a tractor for the kids to play on. There was no queue system to get in and all the Christmas displays were so close together it was impossible to keep a distance anyway.
I know I obviously could have stayed at home and will be in the future (apart from my local shop, one trip to Primark and a quite few trips to the pets shop for dog food I've done all shopping on line since March)
Most of my socialising is with school mum's and although everyone is aware we are only allowed to go for a walk in pairs they all stand together chatting in the playground. The primary school is next to a large secondary school and we have to fight our way through crowds of teenagers before pick up every day. The whole of year 11 are in self isolation as there's so many positive cases. My adult daughters boyfriend is allowed into work as they all tested negative last week. It just seems a limp excuse of a lockdown for me.

@SoupDragon

and it’s a lovely afternoon.

It's been utterly miserable here 😂

It was pouring down yesterday but I still went for a run because that’s the conditions I prefer anyway 😀 Was a lot quieter out than today though
TheDowagerDuchess · 15/11/2020 16:37

This thread has descended a bit but pubs being shut and people not getting on bloody airplanes is quite a big difference.

LilacPebbles · 15/11/2020 17:04

I keep forgetting we're in lockdown tbh. It feels completely different to the first one where people were crossing streets to avoid each other and glancing round paranoid after being outdoors for more than half an hour.
Certain shops are even using loopholes to stay open. I prefer it. I don't judge anyone else whatsoever as I keep my social distance regardless so I'm unaffected.

Torvean32 · 15/11/2020 18:11

BoJo, doesn't have the guts to put England under a proper lockdown.
I live in a d3volved country, we have had it a lot harder. Of th 50 000 deaths we account for just under 3500.

I'm no Tory but i feel Thetesa May would have handled this better.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 15/11/2020 18:13

I feel anyone would have handled this better than Boris.

Including Carrie Symonds

I'm not sure which 'devolved country' you are referring to, but since the largest, Scotland, has under 10% the population of England, the figure you quote is not impressively small.
CosyQueen · 15/11/2020 18:22

Why are you critising others for doing the same thing as you?! I hope your post is a joke OP otherwise you are a hideous hypocrite!

TheDowagerDuchess · 15/11/2020 18:24

I’m sure May would have handled the whole thing better than BOJO. That doesn’t mean we should go back to the merciless lockdown we had before though.

user1471538283 · 15/11/2020 18:26

It would work if everyone stayed at home and didn't mix. However, as before people are not. In my neighbourhood people are out or having friends round as it was pre CV.

The devolved countries can't act as independent sovereign states, so not a fair comparison.

I cannot imagine T.May suggesting its all perfectly ok to shake the hands of ill patients or that we might, as it were, let CV sweep through the country... can you?

We've the worst excess deaths in the whole of europe, shocking really yet so many people seem to think Bojo is doing a great job.

IcedPurple · 15/11/2020 18:38

It wasn't me who made the comparison. And in any case, the devolved nations do have a high degree of autonomy in matters of health and lockdown restrictions.

yet so many people seem to think Bojo is doing a great job.

I don't know anyone who thinks that.

MercyBooth · 15/11/2020 18:52

@Alconleigh No doubt you will be expecting those "fat knackers" to put a mask on to protect you though.

We locked down late because,............Cheltenham. There is a lot of resentment growing on housing estates. People who have never been abroad in their lives being told they again have to lock down in tiny flats while being demonized for being poor and/or overweight.

It is because we locked down late and the insistence of the Government giving contracts for Track and Trace , PPE etc to their rich mates that has caused the problems.

The Government expecting people to let go of their freedoms while not even being willing to let go of their ideology!!

madcatladyforever · 15/11/2020 18:54

There doesn't seem to be any lock down where I live. Shops and streets are full of people. People everywhere.

What about the restaurants? The bars? The cafes? The gyms? The hairdressers? The cinemas? The swimming pools?

Are they all full too?

MercyBooth · 15/11/2020 18:55

@madcatladyforever Tell that to the hairdressers beauticians pub landlords, clothes shop owners and individual buisnesses that have been forced to close because............tokenism

thecatsatonthewall · 15/11/2020 19:09

Sure there are plenty of things that are shut, as listed by icedpurple but this LD mk2 is nothing like the mk1 version.

People seem to be pretty doing what they want, neighbours are having guests around, shops & roads very busy.

I guess the biggest restriction that will have some effect is the closure of pubs/restaurants but even that is doubtful as folk seem to have swapped the pub for the home as their social hub.

I feel sorry for the small businesses forced to close but the Range etc stays open.

IcedPurple · 15/11/2020 19:15

Of course, the only way you could know that the shops and road are busy is if you're out there contributing to the business (stands by for explanation that the poster only leaves home once a month for absolutely super duper essential trips).

Chicchicchicchiclana · 15/11/2020 19:16

The current rise in infections and deaths is seasonal and has nothing to do with locking down too late in March. We did indeed lock down down too late then, but the whole of Europe is now experiencing a second wave.

FreshFreesias · 15/11/2020 19:19

OP, have you thought about applying to be a Corvid Marshall?

The Cons lead Lab 29% to 22% on who would handle the pandemic the best.
Thats remarkable and very sad.

No, i am working, my job involves travelling to various businesses for IT related reasons. Should i resign and stay at home? or continue paying tax?

A better idea might be for you to accept that the other people you are judging for leaving the home might also have very good reason to do so.

sirfredfredgeorge · 15/11/2020 19:26

Yes, we absolutely need more people to control those crows, they're getting totally out of hand, did you see the film that came out of Bodega Bay of them?

Nice back pedal there! but perhaps if you read what i wrote, i judged no one, mine was an observation between the two lockdowns.

I'm not a LD fan, especially partial ones.

Though i do think having house gatherings is wrong.
