Aibu to think that Johnson and co will somehow fuck up delivery of the covid vaccine?

That their incompetence will result in delays and even more unavoidable deaths. This opinion is based on their performance so far.

Yabu - They will handly it smoothly and competently.
Yanbu - They will fuck it up.

That’s why they’ve got the army dealing with the logistics surely? I wouldn’t trust the government to arrange it alone but I have a lot of faith in our forces

MarshaBradyo · 14/11/2020 11:01

No I don’t think they will duck it up as other bodies are taking on much of the load

MarshaBradyo · 14/11/2020 11:01

Fuck it up that is

RosesinGranGransgarden · 14/11/2020 11:02

I have noticed that NHS Wales are advertising for nursing, managerial, admin staff for mass vaccination and we aren’t. Who’s going to be giving these vaccines?

missyB1 · 14/11/2020 11:04

Well there’s a little issue called Brexit for a start... I believe the vaccine they are buying is manufactured in Europe? Correct me if I’m wrong. And it needs to be stored at -80 degrees. Could be tricky if there is chaos at our ports and borders.

kittensarecute · 14/11/2020 11:04

They'd better not, the prospect of a vaccine is what's keeping me going at the moment.

HomerRoberts · 14/11/2020 11:05

They’re not personally manufacturing, delivering or administering it so no. By the same token if the roll out is a success it will have little to do with Boris.

MarshaBradyo · 14/11/2020 11:05

Also they ordered the Pfizer vaccine early and others. Imagine this site if we hadn’t.

BlackeyedSusan · 14/11/2020 11:05

I do think it is something that the army could organise. Due to the nature of the vaccine coming in large batches and needing to be measured out into doses on site. Needs a big undercover but well venillated area and good organisation to get a lot of people in one place at one time.

That's really worrying. Thanks Brexiters and Tory voters in the last election who voted to continue with brexit

Brighterthansunflowers · 14/11/2020 11:15

If they leave it to the army to handle logistics it’ll hopefully be ok

If they try and cut their incompetent private sector mates into the deal it will be catastrophic

toodlepipsqueaks · 14/11/2020 11:16

I voted YABU because I'm presuming that's just a rhetorical question. I'm willing you guess you (like me) don't have any idea how this could have been managed better so far and what bearing that has (or doesn't have) on a mass vaccine administration programme. So your question is nothing more than "don't you think our government is generally shit?".

I’m pretty sure the vaccine won’t be left in a queue of delays.

On the flip side we’d be part of EU procurement and not sure when and how much we would get. (Voted remain but glad we have ordered separately)

BiBabbles · 14/11/2020 11:18

I would be more concerned if they were going with another "private partner" with how many of them have fucked up. I think they made a good choice with using the military for logistics, though I'd like there to be more repercussions for the fucked up actions, especially on this scale, whether private or state.

LunchBoxPolice · 14/11/2020 11:23

It’s meant to be stored at -80 but Boris will probably get confused with his “oven ready” slogan and put the vaccines in a fucking furnace.

HUCKMUCK · 14/11/2020 11:26

NHS England will fuck it up, they’re the ones commissioning the delivery of the vaccination programme.

RebeccaGillies · 14/11/2020 11:28

MarshaBradyo Let's hope you are right and we get it just as quickly as say France or Germany. Or perhaps quicker you seem to be saying.

QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 14/11/2020 11:30

It must be miserable going through life as negative as some people here!
I hope between the army and the NHS we will get through this. Do I know if we will or won't? No but nor do most people here, they just can't miss a chance to moan and snipe at anyone in authority

nosswith · 14/11/2020 11:32

The support of the military will make it less bad than it would otherwise be, and we should recognise what they will do.

What I expect most to happen is people to let their guard down, or some restrictions to be removed prematurely (or not re-applied), or a failure in communications/arrangements/appointments such that the vaccination programme is not as effective as it could be.

I'm sure the armed forces could bring it in via their aircraft and air force bases if necessary. No reason at all why it needs to come in via the usual trade routes.
Kazzyhoward · 14/11/2020 11:37

I'd have hoped they already have huge numbers of suitable fridges on order to store it in all the GP surgeries and other locations where it's going to be administered. But then again, they'll probably wait to the night before and then be shocked they can't buy them from Amazon!

trappedsincesundaymorn · 14/11/2020 11:38

I wouldn't trust them to deliver a hand written note to my next door neighbour, let alone a vaccine.

MarshaBradyo · 14/11/2020 11:42

It seems to be shifting still since I last looked at numbers but FT article here

Germany and Belgium a priority and ‘Governments have been scrambling to secure the approximately 180m remaining doses from the initial production run, after data showed Pfizer and BioNTech’s vaccine was more than 90 per cent effective, with countries that have not signed deals worried that they will be left out.‘

We have already secured 40m but hopefully Oxford one will come on board as cheaper and not -80 degrees

MushMonster · 14/11/2020 11:45

I do have the hope that as the army is involved they will fly it over. From private airports too. And using helicopters too.
I have it all figured out in my head Grin
