To think that you should always rinse dishes when hand washing them?

Over the years I have come across a number of people who hand wash dishes with soap (obviously) but then do not rinse the dirty soap off under water. They either go straight to drying them with a towel, or they put them to drip dry. I think that is gross. Now the dirt is still on the dishes plus soap scum is there too. It's like having a bath and not rinsing off the dirt/bubbles before drying yourself. I think both habits are gross. Anyone else in my court or is it just me?

I sometimes rinse glasses and mugs but I've never rinsed everything as I wash up. It might be gross but I've never noticed any problems from not doing it, my dishes look clean, they don't taste soapy and it's not making me ill.

JaJaDingDong · 13/11/2020 10:26

I never rinse. Nobody has died.

AllPlayedOut · 13/11/2020 10:27

YANBU.

Splodgetastic · 13/11/2020 10:28

Definitely rinse. I don’t like my food to taste of Fairy Liquid. In a professional kitchen you would be fired for leaving foam on.

DappledThings · 13/11/2020 10:30

I do it in a very cursory fashion. I take more care with glasses just so they don't get marks.

helloxhristmas · 13/11/2020 10:31

My husband never rinses anything that doesn't go in the dishwasher.

I can't stand it.

ExclamationPerfume · 13/11/2020 10:35

Definitely rinse otherwise you can taste the washing up liquid.

Angel2702 · 13/11/2020 10:35

We don’t often hand wash but we usually wash up then pour hot water from the kettle over all the dishes on the drainer.

SquirrelFan · 13/11/2020 10:53

Rinse. Rinse! RINSE!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 13/11/2020 10:56

Of course it's grim, but some people are & frankly, lots of people on MN, do far more grim things than this!

Do not read any threads about what people put in their dishwashers! 🤮

VinylDetective · 13/11/2020 10:57

Never rinsed ever. Nor did my mum and my son doesn’t. Three generations of us all still alive. Unrinsed china and glass dries much faster if you dry with a tea towel.

EmeraldShamrock · 13/11/2020 10:58

I rinse plates etc. DC's plastic cups soap clings on them so I only use a tiny bit.
Then leave them all to drip dry on draining board rack.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 13/11/2020 11:00

I don't get the people who say 'nobody died' - yes of course nobody died. Nobody would die from eating poop either but surely you wouldn't eat it, would you?

Pomelos · 13/11/2020 11:03

I always rinse as I hate tasting soap in my tea or food.

Chloemol · 13/11/2020 11:04

I rinse glasses, nothing else

NorthAndSouthern · 13/11/2020 11:05

@Angel2702

We don’t often hand wash but we usually wash up then pour hot water from the kettle over all the dishes on the drainer.
Why not do it under the two? Surely it’s a lot easier?
NorthAndSouthern · 13/11/2020 11:06

That was meant to say “tap”

NorthAndSouthern · 13/11/2020 11:07

I honestly can’t get my head round the not rinsing.

If you just pull plates out of a bowl, they can’t be clean

thecatsthecats · 13/11/2020 11:07

I was incredibly precious about only washing my dear departed cats bowls in fresh hot water because I heard that they could be very sensitive to remaining soap.

Everyone else gets a lot more casual treatment.

Northernshepherd · 13/11/2020 11:08

I rinse my dishes but can't say I've ever rinsed myself on emerging from the bath. Am I doing baths wrong??

Redolent · 13/11/2020 11:10

I was shocked when we did food technology classes in my secondary school and everyone around me was drying soapy dishes! Have since accepted that people wash up in different ways...(but will still always rinse).

mrsbyers · 13/11/2020 11:11

Rinse everything thoroughly especially if you’re using just one sink of water for all of the dishes

LividLaughLurve · 13/11/2020 11:12

Not-rinsers are probably also toilet seat hoverers and splashers.

I cannot fathom either.

Essentially, it’s probably a good job I can no longer eat in anyone’s house or go anywhere that requires a public loo...

YoniAndGuy · 13/11/2020 11:12

Yes, of course you'd rinse. It's definitely one of those things that touches a nerve with folk who don't think to do it though, hence replies.

Yup, mmm, lifting a plate out of dirty scummy soap water and placing it on the rack for all that stuff to dry on it then eating off it - yummmmmm

Kdubs1981 · 13/11/2020 11:12

If you can taste soap on unrinsed China you're using too much.
