Yes!
I hate both kidney beans and lumps of cooked tomato so I use baked beans and tomato purée or passata

AdaColeman · 12/11/2020 23:21

Red kidney beans every time here, and a couple of squares of plain chocolate too.

Bagadverts · 12/11/2020 23:27

NO

Pixxie7 · 12/11/2020 23:31

No way

Kapalika · 12/11/2020 23:32

No, absolutely not. What have you been taking tonight to think this is ok in any way.

Albern · 12/11/2020 23:36

Nay !

SilverOtter · 12/11/2020 23:51

Sometimes!

MustardMitt · 12/11/2020 23:53

If I don’t have kidney beans or black beans then I’ll use them, chilli with no beans is not right.

But otherwise, no Grin

Now baked beans in cottage pie - now you’re talking!

Stinkywizzleteets · 13/11/2020 00:02

My ex used to do this. Smelled lovely but I wasn’t for eating it. (Anaphylactic allergy to beans)

mrsbyers · 13/11/2020 02:11

There should be no beans in chilli at all

laudemio · 13/11/2020 03:14

No that is an abomination. As are baked beans in cottage pie or shepherds pie

yelyah22 · 13/11/2020 11:00

Yes. Beans are beans. All other opinions are snobbery. (Is that divisive enough!?)

goldenharvest · 13/11/2020 11:08

No! Sacrilege

KiposWonderbeasts · 13/11/2020 11:13

Sure, if they’re the only beans I have in. I rinse them in a sieve and pop them in.

AgeLikeWine · 13/11/2020 11:14

Baked beans in chilli? And we wonder why foreigners laugh at British food....

Nah, it's adapting to circumstances and it's a good thing.

You can use peanut butter for hummus if you're out of tahini, too. Works just fine in a pinch.

OccultGnuAsWell · 13/11/2020 11:41

We were a baked bean free household when I was growing up.

The reason was shrouded in mystery, my mother merely hinted there had been "A Baked Bean Related Incident" when she was younger and they would never be appearing on our menu thank you very much.

After a long personal struggle I've shaken off my early conditioning to an extent and can accept a fry up avec beans. Not in chili.

But my partner insists baked beans are a mandatory chili ingredient.

So round these parts there are two separate chili pots on the stove come chili night. And he has to do the washing up.

OccultGnuAsWell · 13/11/2020 11:42

Should I LTB?

Grapesoda7 · 13/11/2020 11:46

Definatly, I always put in a tin of kidney beans and half a tin of baked beans. My mom did the same.

Do you remember the Heinz baked bean cuisine years ago? They did a pasta with cheese sauce, peas and baked beans which sounds rank but I loved.

Baked beans go with loads of things.

ILoveYoga · 13/11/2020 13:28

It’s a bastardised version. Definitely not chilli with baked beans. I like baked beans. I like chilli. Baked beans do not go in chilli.

CandyLeBonBon · 13/11/2020 13:30

BLOODY HELL THIS THREAD NEEDS A TRIGGER WARNING!

No. No no no no no NO!

I'm going for a lie down.

Originalyellowbelly · 13/11/2020 13:32

YES! I am allergic to kidney beans.

Kazmerelda · 13/11/2020 13:35

It’s a definite no! I had to make a mild chilli recently and used baked beans. It’s what evil must taste like!

MsSweary · 13/11/2020 13:36

NO! Shock

elp30 · 13/11/2020 13:37

I'm Texan and beans and minced beef have no place in "chile con carne", which to me, is sent to us in Texas from heaven.

However, I live with my English husband and he eats his "chilli" with mince and beans and because he's worth keeping despite that insanity, I'll tolerate it.

I'd rethink our relationship if he ever suggested BAKED beans. Y'all have already desecrated my beloved chile but baked beans makes y'all dirty bastards!
