To not understand how Strictly can be allowed to carry on now Katya has tested positive

I thought the whole concept of test and trace is that people who have been exposed to those who test positive, also have to isolate

Everyone on Saturdays show has been exposed to Katya so why don’t they have to isolate?

OP posts:
NoSquirrels · 12/11/2020 18:54

Because they haven't been close contacts.

I don't think you understand the criteria for "exposure".

Bearbehind · 12/11/2020 18:56

What is the criteria?

How are they not classed as exposed when they are all sitting watching the other contestants?

What about all the backstage crew?

OP posts:
picklemewalnuts · 12/11/2020 18:56

They all stand metres apart during filming. That's the point of the revamp. The judges, dancers, audience etc.

Not sure how they are managing makeup- separate teams?

picklemewalnuts · 12/11/2020 18:57

My only question would be about the heavy breathing from extortion. But we'll see whether anyone else gets it.

SimonJT · 12/11/2020 18:57

Close contact is considered more than 15 minutes under 2m

Rocococo · 12/11/2020 18:58

Aerosol transmission. They are all in the studio for hours and hours as both shows are filmed together. A friend went last year and from memory the audience were in there from 3-10PM.

Cwenthryth · 12/11/2020 18:59

Or 1min

Bearbehind · 12/11/2020 18:59

Don’t get me wrong, I love Strictly so would hate it to be canned but I genuinely don’t understand why this is OK when those contacted by test and trace have to isolate

How close do you have to be and for how long, to be told to isolate under test and trace?

OP posts:
NoSquirrels · 12/11/2020 19:00

They're in a massive, air-conditioned and ventilated studio, sat more than 2 meters apart from everyone. The backstage crew will be zoned into different 'cohorts' etc.

You're not a close contact unless more than 15 minutes and less than 2 meters apart.

I imagine all the contestants are being tested regularly. I guess if more become infected they may have to pull the show but it can continue for now. I would imagine all everyone involved understood the risks and signed disclaimers.

Nackajory · 12/11/2020 19:01

Less than a meter for more than a minute or less than 2 meters for more than 15 mins. Calm down, they have all been socially distanced.

Bearbehind · 12/11/2020 19:03

That’s not really the point though is it?

We can’t all sign disclaimers which allow us to carry on as normal

As others have said, within 2m for 15 mins or within 1m for 1 minute, within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms (or positive test if asymptomatic).

NoSquirrels · 12/11/2020 19:05

I imagine all the contestants are being tested regularly.

This is how they know Katya is positive - the statement says she's asymptomatic, so it was just picked up on a test.

Test and trace doesn't make absolutely everyone you encounter isolate. It's people you're deemed likely to have infected. Most of the Strictly set-up contestants, dancers and crew won't be in that group.

Cwenthryth · 12/11/2020 19:05

They’re not carrying on as normal though, they’re observing distancing etc - working “Covid safe”. Like we all are at work, surely? Those of us whose jobs cannot be done from home. It’s all been modified to reduce transmission risk.

jessstan1 · 12/11/2020 19:06

I imagine they will all be tested; if nobody else tests positive, it can go ahead.

What do you mean about carrying on as normal? I am genuine unsure what you mean, not being snarky.
NoSquirrels · 12/11/2020 19:07

Obviously ANY workplace is a risk, but with mitigating "Covid-safe" measures in place it all carries on. Same for Strictly.

speakout · 12/11/2020 19:09

I have never watched the show, but I imaging it is filmed over days if not weeks, with some participants/judges never even being together in e same building.
Take out close conacts, and you still have a show.

Bearbehind · 12/11/2020 19:10

I guess they haven’t had time to announce much yet but surely some of the backstage crew have been in contact for over the allowed limits

What a crazy world we now live in

They are all together on a Saturday

OP posts:
Fedup21 · 12/11/2020 19:12

You do know that only v close contacts are sent home in other work scenarios, don’t you?

Lucked · 12/11/2020 19:12

Of course not. I think audiences were reduced to crew and contestants from last week because of lockdown.

By your reasoning any workplace with a positive case would have to close even if staff socially distance. A covid safe workplace should reduce staff absence from contacts.

It will be interesting to see if there is any spread from this as I am sure they are all being tested frequently but this will help prove or disprove if the safety measures are successful.

I wonder where she got it?

Bearbehind · 12/11/2020 19:14

They are literally all together watching the dances each Saturday just a few metres apart

That’s what I’m asking

Would this be ok in any other setting?

Yes. Work for example. They are socially distanced.
