To not understand how Strictly can be allowed to carry on now Katya has tested positive

I thought the whole concept of test and trace is that people who have been exposed to those who test positive, also have to isolate

Everyone on Saturdays show has been exposed to Katya so why don’t they have to isolate?

@Tidypidy

All the pro dancers perform together in the group dances so she would have been in close contact with all of them.
All the pro dances were filmed ages ago, in August I think. It has been mentioned several times on the show.
angelikacpickles · 12/11/2020 20:04

If she has only tested positive today or yesterday, then it's completely irrelevant who she was with on Saturday.

Sobeyondthehills · 12/11/2020 20:05

I think the more interesting question is where got it from, considering we are under lockdown, she is in a household bubble with Nicola and everyone should be wearing PPE and I would imagine that for Strictly the make up artists and costume people are probably suited up as spacemen.

If she has broken the rules somehow, I wonder if they won't have her back next year

LilacPebbles · 12/11/2020 20:12

We're not going to start punishing people for catching a virus ffs. Lockdown doesn't stop it from spreading.

Sloth169 · 12/11/2020 20:13

She could have caught it from going to the shops etc surely? I know they are bubbling with their dance partners but I don't think they are having to actually isolate?

JamminDoughnuts · 12/11/2020 20:16

i dont think anyone would be annoyed at Katya, just disappointed that they are both out

satnighttakeaway · 12/11/2020 20:19

@Tlollj

I wonder where she got it from. If everyone is being as careful and socially distancing as they say.
I don't watch Strictly so don't know what precautions they are taking but that was my first thought too. Surely all the dancers would be making sure that while they are still on the programme that they keep well away from everyone, it can't be that hard, don't they spend most of their time either training or filming the programme? To not have close contact with anyone else for the rest of the time can't be that hard can it?

They were recorded all in one day, weeks ago. But I really can’t see the series finishing. It’s inevitable more of dancers and crew will get it.

Could be crew, catering staff, deliveries?
randomer · 12/11/2020 20:39

For the love of God, let it go quietly into the night.

Littleposh · 12/11/2020 20:45

Social distancing happens in every single workplace. How do you think people in shops, offices, etc manage??

Naïve and hysterical is the only description for this post

CaveMum · 12/11/2020 20:47

Katya was in a bubble with Nicola, not in total isolation. All the dancers and celebs are able to go about their normal lives within the current rules - so visiting the supermarket, using public transport, etc.

MerylStropp · 12/11/2020 20:58

We don't normally watch Strictly but decided to follow it this year as it represented a bit of "normal"... Sad

Swingbin · 12/11/2020 21:25

It will be interesting to see if anyone else on SCD gets it, I think the oldest contestants are 60 and I assume that they haven’t got anyone with any health conditions. My dds friend tested positive over half term but because it was over 48hrs since school finished no-one else from school needed to isolate.

puffinkoala · 12/11/2020 21:27

@ApolloandDaphne

I imagine all the contestants are being tested regularly. I guess if more become infected they may have to pull the show but it can continue for now. I would imagine all everyone involved understood the risks and signed disclaimers.
Disclaimers aren't enforceable and are arguably a criminal offence. Yes I know everyone imposes them, I have no idea why.

I thought the studio was empty - no audience?

puffinkoala · 12/11/2020 21:30

@JamminDoughnuts

i wonder how the positive person katya was in contact with is feeling now!
They may not know!
GabsAlot · 12/11/2020 21:49

theres not really enough open for her to be going out mixing though is there-surely they would be advised to stay in as much as possible

Stillgoings · 12/11/2020 21:50

The group dances were already filmed weeks ago. The only.person close enough to her on the telly was Nicola, who is self isolating. The other dancers were distanced from.each other as they watched . In my work place, as in all work places and schools, only people who have been in close contact have to self isolate. This will likely include some hair and make up on strictly. Maybe this is where she caught it, maybe she didn't catch it at all and it's a false positive. We just have to hope it doesn't spread through them all as Strictly is such a lovely little bubble of normality and much needed this year. I was really sad to hear the news

NoSquirrels · 12/11/2020 21:51

They’re just people with a job to do. They still need shops, have families, all that stuff that normal people with normal jobs have and do.

Katya was asymptomatic and could have got it from anywhere in her working life or personal life. Just like any of us could, unless we’re able to shield completely- no kids at school, or partners at work, no one to bring it to us in our glorious isolation, for months and months.

Dancers on the programme are working. In order to work, they have to be in close contact with their partner (who can also be in close contact with others if they have a family, who might also ...), and go out and about every day to a studio (where other people work, who might be in close contact...) and be filmed every day (so extra people around, who might...) and sometimes be in 1 TV studio (It Takes Two) and sometimes in another (main Sat show) and have their hair and make up done and probably get a taxi or driver and so on and so forth.

With every precaution, you’re never going to eliminate risk entirely.

‘Bubbles’ aren’t some magical protection. They just reduce risk, not eliminate it.

Redcrayons · 12/11/2020 21:59

here you go

They are all over it.

To get to work?
Hercwasonaroll · 12/11/2020 22:12

Would this be ok in any other setting?

Have you not read any of the school threads?!
