To not understand how Strictly can be allowed to carry on now Katya has tested positive

I thought the whole concept of test and trace is that people who have been exposed to those who test positive, also have to isolate

Everyone on Saturdays show has been exposed to Katya so why don’t they have to isolate?

In my work we have to break the 2m/15min limit with colleagues, but if we’re wearing a fluid-resistant mask, visor, apron & gloves we’ve been told track & trace would discount us as close contacts. So I imagine hairdressers etc would be similarly PPE’d up and not have to isolate.

Tidypidy · 12/11/2020 19:18

All the pro dancers perform together in the group dances so she would have been in close contact with all of them.

Cwenthryth · 12/11/2020 19:18

If they’re sitting metres apart the they’re not close contacts :-)

NoSquirrels · 12/11/2020 19:18

Yes!

The studios are ventilated and they are distanced from each other.

As other people say, it’s just like an office or factory or another workplace. They don’t shut the whole place up if 1 person tests positive.

Any backstage crew are replaceable, I’m afraid. It’s really just the contestants who aren’t.

WhoopsSomethingWentWrong · 12/11/2020 19:19

Would this be ok in any other setting?

Yes, it’s ok in any other setting.
Test and trace contact anyone who has been within 1m for 1 minute or 2m for 15 minutes. The show is organised so that these conditions are met.
In many work places, people sit 2m from others for the duration of their shift. My mum works in the NHS, she sits in a room with multiple other people, with the desks more than 2m apart deliberately so that they don’t all have to isolate.
In secondary schools, only close contacts of a positive case are asked to isolate. So people can sit in a classroom all day with someone who tests positive and still not have to isolate if they haven’t been within 2m for 15 mins.

The group dances were filmed ages ago for that reason.
WhoopsSomethingWentWrong · 12/11/2020 19:19

Can you imagine an entire production line in a factory having to isolate if one staff member tests positive? Everyone working in a warehouse?

NoSquirrels · 12/11/2020 19:19

They filmed these separately in the summer. They aren’t dancing live except with their contestant.

I guess that’s the crux of it

The group dances were filmed months ago, when they were all in a bubble with each other.

Hugosmugo · 12/11/2020 19:21

You do know that test and trace don't make everyone isolate don't you? It gets worked out based on how long they've been in contact for. They are following strict protocols by the looks of things.

I'm surprised people still don't know the 15 mins rule by now!

nosswith · 12/11/2020 19:22

Cancelling Strictly would send a message that the virus is still something to be taken seriously in a way that some other actions don't. Though the people who need to be reminded are possibly not viewers on a regular basis.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 12/11/2020 19:23

The pro dances were all recorded in the summer.

AlexaShutUp · 12/11/2020 19:23

Even if they were altogether on Saturday, with no social distancing in place, the rest of them wouldn't have to isolate if she tested positive/started showing symptoms more than 48 hours after that. So, if she was asymptomatic and the positive test was on Tuesday, the rest of them would be in the clear.

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 12/11/2020 19:23

I expect the backstage and make up staff that have been in close contact will also now be isolating. But I would think they have separate bubbles.

sashagabadon · 12/11/2020 19:24

It’s a shame they can’t just self isolate and the rejoin in 2 weeks time but probably not fair on the other contestants

TheDetectiveBadge · 12/11/2020 19:26

I work in a school. I stand in front of 30 kids, not even 1m from the front row as there's no space for that. We've had several positive cases and I've never been asked to isolate. In fact, teachers are very specifically not in bubbles so unless we develop symptoms we are in every day. I'm sure there are plenty of other workplaces where social distancing is impossible and people have to go in even if there has been a positive case. It's certainly not specific to Strictly.

It’s all a bit of a farce isn’t it

@Bearbehind

They are literally all together watching the dances each Saturday just a few metres apart

That’s what I’m asking

Would this be ok in any other setting?

Thats within regulations. Closer than 2 meters for 15 minutes is considered close contact
GabsAlot · 12/11/2020 19:37

i reckon more wil come down with it-its not full proof but i guess they had to try

JamminDoughnuts · 12/11/2020 19:45

i wonder how the positive person katya was in contact with is feeling now!

ZoeTurtle · 12/11/2020 19:45

@Bearbehind

I guess they haven’t had time to announce much yet but surely some of the backstage crew have been in contact for over the allowed limits

What a crazy world we now live in

It's already been confirmed that some of the crew are also isolating after contact.

I don't understand why you're so riled up when you haven't bothered reading anything about the issue!

I hadn’t read that - point me in the right direction and I will

I work in an office so 5 days a week with others. We are distanced and sensible. Same situation since Covid hit in March and not one office member (18 branches) have got the virus. Don't really see what the difference is with SCD?

As Katya is asymptomatic, I am guessing they are getting tested frequently or else how would she know she's positive?

Tlollj · 12/11/2020 19:56

I wonder where she got it from. If everyone is being as careful and socially distancing as they say.
