To not understand how Strictly can be allowed to carry on now Katya has tested positive

I thought the whole concept of test and trace is that people who have been exposed to those who test positive, also have to isolate

Everyone on Saturdays show has been exposed to Katya so why don’t they have to isolate?

@GabsAlot

what do they need public transport for-and whats wrong with delivries
They need pub,ice transport to get to work, I’d imagine. And for all the other reasons anyone uses it. Why would they get deliveries? They are young and fit, it makes sense for delivery slots to be saved for the vulnerable. All the mitigation in the world only reduces risk. It doesn’t eliminate it. And OP - how do you imagine any school in the country is open if people standing more than 2m away would need to isolate? I see about 200 people a day at less than 2m and for an hour at a time. 4 year groups have had to isolate this last half term. I’m still going.
CaveMum · 12/11/2020 22:12

@GabsAlot

motsi isolating now aswell

apprently she had to go to germany for some reason

She lives in Germany normally, so I’m guessing a family problem.

This is her statement

FFS. Catching Covid is not a moral failing. It’s a virus, and viruses spread. If she did the show on Saturday with a cold would everyone be speculating on where she caught it?
As part of life, people come into contact with others. She could have caught it in Tesco, on a train, from one of the people she has come into contact with as part of doing the show (make up etc). She’s asymptomatic... it could be a false positive. Who knows? Catching covid doesn’t mean she’s been licking people or going to raves.

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 12/11/2020 22:23

Others shall probably test positive in the next week

Unfortunately the virus is working it way through colleagues at work (and have known this is happening in other areas of our team) oddly it didn’t last time in the same way (a few were ill at the same time then that was it) but we were not so regularly tested so some of us may have been asymptomatic

Bumble84 · 12/11/2020 22:44

I wondered this as well op. Maybe she had her test and hadn’t been in close contact with anyone else within 48hrs. There’s no way an MUA or hair stylist wouldn’t be a close contact even f they were wearing PPE. It would need to be medical grade and if that’s allowed then what’s stopping other companies saying there’s is medical grade

Skysblue · 12/11/2020 23:33

It is the Dominic Cummings method of “The rules apply to everyone else”

StopMakingATitOfUrselfNPissOff · 13/11/2020 00:17

When you test positive, track and trace are only interested in people you’ve spent time with in the 48 hours prior to your positive test. If she tested positive today, who she spent time with on Saturday is irrelevant.

InglouriousBasterd · 13/11/2020 00:30

Rylan is self isolating as well after contact with a positive case, he posted it yesterday. Wonder if it was Katya?

CaveMum · 13/11/2020 06:38

No Rylan said on his Twitter post that his contact took place outside of work.

What is? Who's broken the rules in this case?

Nothing, nothing is stopping you doing that, as I posted upthread, it is what is happening in my workplace. I’m not the one who designed the policy but we’ve been told by management that IF we were identified as a close contact of a positive case, BUT our contact was mitigated by proper, full PPE, then it wouldn’t count for T&T. We are not permitted to wear our own fabric masks etc at work, has to be the proper stuff work are providing.

Perfectly said.
TooOldforBouncyCastles · 13/11/2020 07:17

One of the issues with the virus is that people think it’s all or nothing in terms of ‘getting back to normal’

It is entirely possible to go to work, go to school, go to the supermarket etc without getting Covid if appropriate precautions are taken. Keep a mask on if you’re within 2m of another person, ensure good ventilation (preferably be outside), wash hands, clean surfaces, wash hands again, don’t touch your mask...if you do wash hands.

How do you think workplaces are continuing? Supermarkets? SCD are following guidelines. A significant proportion of the public are not and are then surprised they caught it.

Even with those precautions people will still get it because it’s really hard to ensure you’ve wiped a surface, washed your hands, not been in the presence of someone who has it and isn’t taking precautions but you can minimise your risk massively.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 13/11/2020 07:21

Regarding if it'll spread, slightly different but Liverpool have had 2 players test positive (not sure if symptomatic but they are all tested regularly, bubbled etc) one after the other so it shows it isn't guaranteed to go through everyone

PudseyPatch · 13/11/2020 07:24

In school I have been teaching in since September, all staff are walking the corridors. passing each other, talking to each other, attending staff meetings together in the hall or a classroom etc.... if someone in y5 tests positive, only the y5 bubble isolates 🤷‍♀️

bobbiester · 13/11/2020 07:56

As usual people are getting mixed up over the purpose of face coverings in public settings (not healthcare settings).

People in the Strictly studio are NOT wearing face coverings to protect the wearer. They are wearing face coverings to reduce the risk of the wearer spreading COVID-19 to other people.

The type of face coverings they are wearing do not provide much protection for the wearer at all - but they do a pretty good job of catching exhaled aerosols/droplets so do a good job of protecting others.

But a dancer with COVID-19 does not wear a face covering while having makeup applied or during the heavy exertion of dancing - when they are breathing heavily and spreading aerosols and droplets containing the virus into the air.

Musicalmistress · 13/11/2020 09:15

@Bearbehind

They are literally all together watching the dances each Saturday just a few metres apart

That’s what I’m asking

Would this be ok in any other setting?

Hate to mention it but...schools? All together for hours on end, minimal social distancing & only masks for staff/senior pupils. There are lots of work places where similar happens, I'm sure the bbc are following all guidelines.
Musicalmistress · 13/11/2020 09:18

@Tidypidy

All the pro dancers perform together in the group dances so she would have been in close contact with all of them.
The group dances were filmed in the summer, just after lockdown 1. They all isolated for 2 weeks then lived together in a hotel long enough to film all the group dances then went home. They isolated again before bubbling up with their celebrity partners for the show.
