Vaccine-feeling worried

2020yearfromhell · 11/11/2020 20:36

I’m feeling really worried about this gradual
push to possibly have to have the vaccine, they say they won’t force us, but will likely make you unable to travel, go to festivals etc etc without it, so basically it is almost as if we’re being forced.
Why the sudden rush through of it and such a need for it from day one.
Anyone else feeling nervous? I really don’t want it as no idea what it is.

I've yet to hear of a (realistic) event/lifestyle choice I'd be debarred from taking part in which would make me so much as consider vaccination.

Festivals? Clubs? You're welcome to them! Air travel? No time for that!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 13/11/2020 19:27

I'd have it tomorrow if it meant I could go on holiday again!

nitsandwormsdodger · 13/11/2020 19:55

It really winds me up how people make decisions and have anxiety when a simple google would give you achual FACTS! listen to radio 4 where the scientists who's involved with it was talking about it ... use reliable sources ffs and stop making stuff up in your head

MadameBlobby · 13/11/2020 19:57

@pointythings

If you were offered the flu vaccine, would you have it?

I have it every year - I'm not frontline, but I am an NHS worker so I have a duty of care. Besides, flu is awful and I'd rather not have it again.

But you're still missing the point I'm making. This pandemic needs to be controlled. A vaccine is key to achieving that. And yet all I see on this thread are people saying 'oh, I'm not at risk, COVID won't kill me, I'm all right, Jack'. In an ideal world, a lot more people would get the flu vaccination. Young children are being given in in schools, because they're super spreaders. Why can't people look at this virus and think that maybe it would be a good idea to do their bit? Instead they hide behind excuses that the COVID vaccine(s) have been 'rushed', without having any understanding of how medical research hurts. Of course they're free to behave like that. But I judge them.

Frontline healthcare professional.

I won’t be having any vaccine they try to ‘force’ on me, I’d leave my job first. Only ever had the flu jab when we got paid to have it.

There’s no way they will force anyone to have a vaccine

2020yearfromhell · 13/11/2020 20:07

@RayOfSunshine2013 They won’t hold us down and jab a needle into us, no. But if they start to make ‘Conditions’ to living your life-no travel, work etc not permitted without having had the vaccination, isn’t that effectively a form of forcing us to take it? Without it, we can’t live a life.

A simple google search?

Turned up this:
www.aamc.org/news-insights/here-s-why-we-can-t-rush-covid-19-vaccine

There are endless articles and posts online to support any point of view any topic.

People that are patient and willing to show empathy and understanding, then talk others through their point of view will have better luck of getting the point across.

Everyone else is doing any cause a disservice.

I suppose it is.. Although this has all made me realise that I only ever seem to work, sleep and pop to Tesco so my life has been very unaffected.. I guess not going on holidays will be the biggest issue I have to face if I decline a vaccine..

bumbleymummy · 13/11/2020 21:30

Judge away @pointythings. No, I wouldn’t have it. I’m not in an at risk group, ~70%+ flu cases are asymptomatic and the vaccine has been 15-52% effective from 2015-2020. As already mentioned, large proportions of the at risk groups who are offered it choose not to take it (not because they can’t) so I’m not going to feel guilty about not having it.

pointythings · 13/11/2020 21:46

I wish you'd stop @ing me. I'm perfectly able to keep up with the thread.

bumbleymummy · 13/11/2020 21:51

Sorry! Habit 😊

Lemons1571 · 13/11/2020 22:02

I thought no one under 50 would get a vaccine anyway?

I can’t get past the vision of a Little Mix arena concert filled with pensioners Grin.

Surely once all the vulnerable and 50+ have had the vaccine then this type of restriction will be loosened?

Yep. That’s how it’ll be.

Honestly what the hell do people expect? That the government will keep all the restrictions at huge costs to society and the economy just to pander to people who don’t want to have it? People need to take this to get all of us and the whole of society out of this mess, and if that means people can’t live a proper life work, travel etc without having it (except for medical reasons) so be it.

canigooutyet · 13/11/2020 22:06

A knee jerk reaction from companies who haven’t engaged their brains.
Once the financial realistically hit them they will realise the fuck up they are making.

These measures exclude everyone under the age of 18.

MadameBlobby · 13/11/2020 22:08

Except it’s not that though is it @RayOfSunshine2013? If not enough people have it we can’t move on from restrictions which will continue to trash society and the economy

Juststopswimming · 13/11/2020 22:10

Agree 100% MadameBlobby

Options are:

  • have the vaccine
  • don't have the vaccine and run the risk of covid
-hide yourself away

Lockdown enthusiasrs need to stop expecting the whole of society to remain shut down now that we have a viable solution. They are welcome to continue to do so at their own pleasure.

Option 4 - continue as normal as I have throughout lockdown without having to have a vaccine which I won’t be having anyway.. and face restrictions only when I am physically stopped from doing whatever it is I want to do.
Juststopswimming · 13/11/2020 22:16

Exactly- option 2.

But I think you're unrealistic to expect masks, limited numbers, social distancing etc etc to be maintained once there is a solution (aka vaccine). So youre running the risk of covid, albeit a reduced risk because lots of people will choose the vaccine.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 13/11/2020 22:17

Yes I’m also very glad I’m back of the queue. You don’t want to be in the first 10 million doses.....

I would like the politicians and board directors of Pfizer to go first please!

Shortly followed by all the scientists sneering at anyone asking about long term safety concerns. Narcolepsy anyone?

canigooutyet · 13/11/2020 22:21

I will be eligible due to health. I don’t want it. If I wanted to be involved in clinical trials then I would sign up for this.
Essentially this is what this is. A clinical trial on a mass basis. Trials have been going for a few months. You cannot say in a years time it still won’t have any negative impact on you.

There will be no vaccination compensation linked with this. That should be a massive issue for anyone. I would suggest people look more into when shit goes wrong.

Several people in the medical and science field I know won’t touch this with a barge pole.

canigooutyet · 13/11/2020 22:28

We have procured 10 million vaccinations aparantly.
50 something million in the UK alone won’t be vaccinated. And do they know for certain yet when/if a booster is needed?

Travel/air industry insisted that flights in and out of the U.K. remained going throughout lockdown. Do people really think They won’t kick off about insurance linked to vaccination? They make big money from family holidays.

The likes of Ticket master and theatres to effectively ban under 18’s?

bumbleymummy · 13/11/2020 22:28

“ If not enough people have it we can’t move on from restrictions which will continue to trash society and the economy”

Ummm... yes, we can.

Colabottles64 · 13/11/2020 22:28

I think everyone should have the choice as to whether they have the vaccine or not. That said - choices have consequences. If people choose not to have the vaccine, that will likely mean more testing to partake in activities / travel - possibly at their own expense. I'm not sure it will exclude people entirely but I'd expect a more onerous route will be required in order to limit risk.

Everyone will be more likely to choose vaccination if it feels safe and makes life easier. I think there will need to be a lot or work to assure people on both fronts.

AppleKatie · 13/11/2020 22:33

‘I don’t know what’s in it’

Medicine. Effective medicine which will stop you getting corona virus.

Happydaysandhappysmiles · 13/11/2020 22:33

Interestingly...the swine flu vaccine was part of the quadrivalent flu vaccine last year I understand...!! As an asthmatic with young children, the covid vaccine cannot come soon enough for me.
