Is there going to be a civil war in America?

I know Biden's won the election and is the new president.

What is Trump up to though?

He keeps sacking people - what's he doing? Is he planning to start a civil war?

Not that I think Trump is good for the US (although women may inadvertently fare worse under Biden). I just eyeroll at how disingenuous so many of his opponents are.

Whats a 'liberal'?

BeanieB2020 · 13/11/2020 03:09

IF Trump somehow manages to stay in office, there will be widespread protests and violence. Probably not civil war level, but it would be bad. This is very unlikely to happen and most talk of it and civil war talk is just scaremongering.

Trump has to vacate the White House by 20 January. Even if he refuses to vacate the building, Biden can still be sworn in as president and will begin running the U.S.

All of the staff members who worked under Trump will be vacating on or before 20 January. Their jobs will be finished and Biden's new staff members will take over.

Biden has appointed his chief of staff this week and over the next several weeks he'll be choosing various people for his cabinet.

I'm hoping Trump flounces off to Florida before Christmas and stays there permanently. (Probably too much to hope for.)

Secret service team guarding Biden is probably being extra vigilant to prevent mentally-ill right-wing extremists from assassinating Biden.

There are some White House staff who continue to work there for years regardless of who is president: chefs and other kitchen staff, housekeepers, security, mailroom staff, maintenance staff, etc.

Ah, they will just shut off his water and electricity and he will be out of there in no time. He's too spoiled to stay haha

MerchantOfVenom · 13/11/2020 05:48

Yes the disingenuity, and lack of self-awareness, certainly is strong...

MerchantOfVenom · 13/11/2020 05:54

You’ve gotta admire Biden for never taking the Trumpie bait.

Along with big, fat going ahead and just appointing his Chief of Staff - even though the transition process hasn’t formally begun - he’s also been channeling some of the money raised during the campaign, because he knew Trump wouldn’t play ball.

When the GSA kicks off the transition process, the president elect gets something like $10m to start getting his systems in place. Biden can’t access that until Trump stops tantrumming.

But instead of losing his cool, he just draws on his own funds, in complete anticipation of exactly what Trump would do.

‘Civil unrest’ yes ‘civil war’ no. Much of Washington DC remains boarded up (literally) with stores shit for fear of unrest in this bizarre period of uncertainty.
Just read interesting vanity fair article - what struck me most was the reported substantial fear of what Trump, mired in debt and multiple law suits, will do with sensitive information. Could be a continuing nightmare even after he ‘puts his big boy pants on’ (cnn) and accepts that he is no longer president.

Shut not shit obvs. Apols

cooliebrown · 13/11/2020 06:10

given how many people in the US are armed, and considering the upheaval there has already been over there I have to say I'm surprised more people haven't been shot during protests/counter-protests and the like...

Flatpackback · 13/11/2020 06:25

Read “How Fascism Works” by Professor Jason Stanley. Do some joined up thinking if you can.

Agree he has handled it in the best way possible. Not rising to Trump’s provocation and need for complete attention from everyone.

I think more highly of him now. Calm and measured.

There are talks that he's planning to run again in 2024, rumours at this point but if true then an obvious sign that he knows he lost.

A demonstration in Washington, DC today and some altercations. No guns involved nor serious injuries (yet), thank goodness.

Sorry you can’t read the entire article, but I’m sure it’s being reported elsewhere.
