YABU - it was an unfortunate fall

YANBU - guilty as sin

(If you've not watched it but plan to, read up more about it afterwards...I was Shock)

Oh god really don't know.

I'd live to say innocent, but how else did she get those injuries?! (There is a bizarre owl theory) - huge lacerations form a tumble down 3 steps? Hmmm

throwaway10000 · 10/11/2020 01:08

Guilty IMO

throwaway10000 · 10/11/2020 01:13

If you have Amazon prime, watch a show called 999 Killer on the Line, Season 1 Episode 6.

It reviews a murder covered up as a “fall down the stairs”. It’s very similar to the situation with Micheal Peterson. Here’s an article:

NeverHadANickname · 10/11/2020 01:14

I haven't watched it but have read about the case albeit a while ago. I was thinking not guilty and there is some rationale behind the owl theory, strange owl attacks do happen.

BubblyWater · 10/11/2020 01:16

The owl theory makes a lot of sense to me, actually.

GroundAlmonds · 10/11/2020 01:17

It’s one of those “impossible to be sure” cases.

He seemed a very practised liar to me, but that doesn’t mean he killed her.

HoHoHolyMackerel · 10/11/2020 01:19

He's definitely a liar. That programme made my skin crawl.

GroundAlmonds · 10/11/2020 01:20

I definitely wouldn’t marry him, that’s for sure. Grin

GlummyMcGlummerson · 10/11/2020 01:22

I remember one of his sons was absolutely drop dead gorgeous

NoBloodyHolly · 10/11/2020 01:49

I fully believe it was an owl

Twistered · 10/11/2020 02:03

I think it was the owl.
In the library
With the candlestick

Grin (laughs at own pathetic joke) Grin

HoHoHolyMackerel · 10/11/2020 02:12

I stand corrected @Twistered has got it

HoHoHolyMackerel · 10/11/2020 02:13

I didn't hear of the owl theory until I googled it. Was that bit in the netflix docu or did I zone out for abit? It was a very long docu from what I remember

throwaway10000 · 10/11/2020 02:15

Just spent some time looking into the owl theory and although it seems plausible, the husband was still shady AF

lyralalala · 10/11/2020 02:24

I think he was guilty as sin.

If he's not then he's hellishly unlucky. His friend, whose children he became carer for, and his second wife both died in the exact same way?

I suspect wife #1 feels very lucky not to have had the same kind of accident.

WinnerWinnerChickenDinner0 · 10/11/2020 02:32

I have no idea, but I could never get past the fact that his adopted daughter was so strikingly like his biological son

Netflix - The Staircase...innocent or guilty?
DulcimerOfDestiny · 10/11/2020 02:44

He gives off some seriously creepy vibes. Though it's impossible to prove it, I suspect he's guilty. The two similar "accidents" are extremely suspicious, and I don't buy that his wife was okay with his extramarital activities.

It's so sad when the adult children of murderers can't accept the truth about their parent. In this case, maybe there's room for some doubt, but it happens even when there's overwhelming evidence and a conviction.

Yes! I remember this now. Once you’ve noticed that, it’s not long until you see the resemblance between her and her “adopted dad”. Although if there is a biological relationship, it doesn’t necessarily mean affair. Could have been some good old 1970s wife swapping on the army base?

I’m going to have to rewatch this now.

GroundAlmonds · 10/11/2020 03:02

@lyralalala I can’t help thinking the first wife’s terminal vagueness might have worked in her favour.

BusterGonad · 10/11/2020 03:05

His children seemed brain washed by him and the adoration for him was over the top, to the point where I felt there was some abuse and control going on. He was very full of himself and everything was me me me.

whoeverthrewthatpaperyamomsaho · 10/11/2020 03:07

Guilty

BusterGonad · 10/11/2020 03:08

If you look further into it, some kind of criminal expert has read his statements and his wording is of particular interest.
Also he actually dated the producer of the stair case at the time of production. All very very strange.

BusterGonad · 10/11/2020 03:09

Sorry, director.

lyralalala · 10/11/2020 03:09

I would agree with you on that one.
