panelling?

Planning some decorating whilst furloughed and looking on Instagram for inspiration - fake panelling and F&B Sulking Room Pink are very popular!

Anyone else a fan? What are colours or styles for interiors are you interested in at the moment?

I'm not a fan of sulking room pink, I don't really get the fascination. I think F&B do much nicer pinks - my sitting room is cinder rose, which I love. And am about to do our bedroom in pink ground.

Anybody done elephant's breath?

gimmearing · 10/11/2020 07:09

I like that pink but I do like pink generally. My bedroom is F&B calamine and I absolutely love it. It's pale but warm and looks so good with all white woodwork and furniture.
The PP who had a terrible time with F&B paint must have been unluckily as we've never had an issue.
We lined the walls first and it went on beautifully.

I've never really followed trends too much although I did go through a brown stage. That was awful.
The grey thing is pissing me off because it's just everywhere. I did actually consider a pale grey for my hall but I don't want it to look like I've jumped on the bloody Mrs Hinch bandwagon so I've ruled it out. 😄

One thing that always makes me wonder is coloured sofas. Do people then have to decorate around their lime green sofa for years or are they changing their furniture every time they decorate?

That's a lovely colour.
Autumnblooms · 10/11/2020 07:27

I think I’m the bedroom is ok but pink in the living room or kitchen won’t last a year, it’s going to date so quick!

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 10/11/2020 07:31

The 90s was simultaneously mad bright colours, feature walls and statement pieces as per Changing Rooms (I painted my living room bright orange and had blue glass ornaments).

and magnolia, depersonalise and radiator covers if you want to sell from House Doctor.

TopCatlivedinadustbin · 10/11/2020 13:07

@NC4Now - Cinder Rose is gorgeous - did you use it for all 4 walls.

@romeolovedjulliet

You won’t forget the name Grin. And there’s Elephant’s Breath, Mouse’s Back, Broccoli Brown, Savage Ground, Salon Drab, Mole’s Breath ...

I haven’t used it yet! It’s just the colour I’m thinking of for my bathroom, on the lower half

Literallynoidea · 10/11/2020 13:19

I hate Sulking Room Pink and agree with PPs - it's just millennial pink with a clever name.

Harmarsuperstar · 10/11/2020 13:20

Sulking room pink?! I was trying to work out what it was a typo for Confused

Lovelydovey · 10/11/2020 13:23

Our spare room is that shade of pink - though about it get redecorated as we moved DC1 into it during lockdown 1.0.

Our hallway is a colour match for elephants breath - I love it.

My decorator says that he always raises an eyebrow at my paint choices but likes them when up (sludgey khaki green in living room, lime green in kitchen/dining room, navy, grey and yellow in children’s bedroom).
I have a 300 yo house with damaged stair walls and think I need some panelling.

Lovely article about historical panelling here on Old Houses Online:

www.oldhouseonline.com/.amp/interiors-and-decor/paneling-wainscoting-old-houses
Thank you for the link @anxiiousone. We have original panelling in our house and was told by someone it was 1920's and your article has pretty much confirmed it was arts and crafts era. That's cheered me right up - as I try to ignore the artex everywhere else Grin

JuliaJohnston · 10/11/2020 13:39

That colour is awful. It's like fresh plaster that just hasn't been painted yet.

FangsForTheMemory · 10/11/2020 13:41

I’m having my bathroom pale pink and white and sort of French boudoir.

Singinghollybob · 10/11/2020 13:45

I like Sulking room pink and have it on our landing. I think it looks great there!

Ponypizzy · 10/11/2020 13:55

See also White Pepper by Dulux I had that in the living room, not so obvious pink

TopCatlivedinadustbin · 10/11/2020 14:48

@OpEd

Decorate to suit your house, your lifestyle and your taste. 🤷‍♀️
Well yes, but nowt wrong with having a chat about it on the Mumsnet.

My office has been a similar colour to that pink, actually F&B peignoir, for about 3 years. I’m ahead of the curve Wink

JonHammIsMyJamm · 10/11/2020 14:54

@Monty27

Anybody done *elephant's breath*?
My spare room has been elephant’s breath for about 10yrs! It needs redoing. I’m probably going to go Oval Room Blue.
lazylinguist · 10/11/2020 15:00

I like Scandinavian and Nordic interiors. My house is currently white with lots of natural notes to organic features like wood, fabric and house plants.

Me too. I find pale neutrals and cool colours relaxing. Bright and dark colours on walls do my head in. My family all think I'm boring. GrinI do have a bright yellow fireplace though!

@BootCampSucker - did you do Cinder Rose on all 4 walls? What colour is your sofa?

Sorry @NC4Now - I name checked you by mistake!

Yes, it's all four walls. Sofas are navy blue (and one dark grey squidgy armchair). Here's a daylight shot - excuse DS's hoodie and the unplumped cushions!

Same here @Autumnblooms ! I even used silk white paint to make it extra bright, I love it. It doesn't look cold or clinical at all. Then I have lots of natural wood tones, rattan, marble, sheepskins, house plants etc. I think it's quite simple and obvious really but I get a lot of compliments on it.
MrDarcysMa · 10/11/2020 15:44

@Reborn2020

Dead salmon. There's a colour tone to avoid. Puke yellow, although I don't mind mustard.

I think the 70's was all brown and orange.
The 80's really funny green, blue or pink plastic baths.
The 90's - no idea
Then there was magnolia over EVERYTHING
The of course grey

Is it now sulking pink and dead salmon - please no

90s to my memory was garish colours- lime green, purple or red and black/ grey for boys bedrooms. My parents had that green abs beige striped wallpaper top with a mahogany dado rail 😳
