Wearing a poppy at job interview

AIBU to wear a poppy on my shirt when I go to a job interview? I have two interviews lined up this week, one on Tuesday and one on Friday.

My sis says I shouldn't wear a poppy for an interview and certainly not after the remembrance day e.g. on the Friday.

Why shouldn't you?

Bellevu · 08/11/2020 15:41

Wear it on your coat on Tuesday and nowhere on the Friday.

Sargass0 · 08/11/2020 15:41

Just wear it on your coat

37weekswithno2 · 08/11/2020 15:42

I wouldn't wear it after Remembrance Day but nothing wrong with wearing it to an interview - although mine is always pinned to my coat which id be removing

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/11/2020 15:42

I can't see how it could be a problem.

lidoshuffle · 08/11/2020 15:42

Agree with PP ; wear it on your coat on Tuesday, not at all on Friday (after the day has passed).

Griselda1 · 08/11/2020 15:43

Not after remembrance day but of course you can wear it before.

Wear it. Remembrance Day is on the 11th.

SuperrHann · 08/11/2020 15:57

As an interviewer, I wouldn't give a second thought as to whether you had one or not.

CMOTDibbler · 08/11/2020 15:57

On your coat, yes, on your shirt, no. I wear a poppy in the week up to remembrance Sunday, and then up to the 12th, but Friday would be OK

BashfulClam · 08/11/2020 15:58

You shouldn’t wear it after the 11th. I’d wonder why you were and I wear mine until the 11th.

Michaelbaubles · 08/11/2020 16:01

The Royal British Legion always say in their website that there is NO etiquette for the wearing of a poppy and there are no rules at all about who wears one and when, so there’s no “you shouldn’t wear one” on whatever date etc.

Marchitectmummy · 08/11/2020 16:05

Of course you should wear it! After the 11th I wouldn't.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 08/11/2020 16:05

Why not wear it? If a recruiter had a problem with someone showing a mark of respect then I'm not sure it's an employer I'd want anything to do with tbh.

emmcan · 08/11/2020 16:07

Wear one whenever you wish.

ChalkDinosaur · 08/11/2020 16:08

On Tuesday, go for it. Honestly can't see it mattering either way - unless the job is for the British Legion, then definitely wear it!

On Friday, not sure. Obviously there's nothing really wrong with wearing one after the 11th but it might look like you've forgotten the date?! Maybe I'm overthinking that though.

EwwSprouts · 08/11/2020 16:09

Wearing a poppy is not political it is a sign of remembrance and respect. I agree I wouldn't wear one after the 11th.

speakout · 08/11/2020 16:10

Don't!
Poppies are becoming a bit of a hot potato- for lots of reasons.

Stay neutral.

LubaLuca · 08/11/2020 16:10

I think wearing it on your coat would be less of a distraction. Most people pin them to outerwear for practical reasons (they stay put and don't get crumpled up below jackets and coats).

PhilCornwall1 · 08/11/2020 16:10

Why not wear it. If I was interviewing you, I'd think it was perfectly normal.

PinkiOcelot · 08/11/2020 16:11

Tuesday yes, Friday no.

Generalconfusion · 08/11/2020 16:11

I would wear one if I'd normally have one on, but not go and get one specially. I see absolutely no obligation to wear one and wouldn't want to work for a company that judged me for not wearing one.

PhilCornwall1 · 08/11/2020 16:11

@speakout

Don't! Poppies are becoming a bit of a hot potato- for lots of reasons.

Stay neutral.

And isn't that a very sad thing.
