To feel sorry for Melania...

... having to look sad in front of Donald and hide her champagne party for one when inside she’s thinking PRAISE THE LORD! I can get out of here!

BeaverTail it is sad isn't it. A mum I knew at playgroup was unloading her shopping with sleeping 3 year old in the car. Man stole the car, they think he got a shock when she woke up and started screaming so he stopped the car and jumped out and ran off, it was a busy road. An elderly man was in his front garden, he was too scared to get the child out of the car in case he was called a paedophile so he shouted to someone to call the police and he stood near the open door in case the little girl tried to get out onto the road. What a world we live in.

Having watched Ruby Wax's interview with the trumps before they married Melania did appear to be very taken with Trump. He must have been a whirlwind and vaguely attractive back then (of course she wouldn't have looked at him if he'd had no money however). She's probably fallen out of love over the years.

I think the jacket was supposed to be a message to the media about the furore surrounding allegations of Trump infidelity, not aimed at the children.

I don't know much about her aside from she's religious and family oriented, wanted a green card and to marry 'well' and trade her looks.

Has she ever stated any political stance?

ancientgran · 09/11/2020 16:40

Kalula that is a good link. I've often wondered if the kids in photos with him are GC or children of friends who has known for years, looks like I was right.

@Shimy

I actually feel sorry for Ivanka. She seems like a decent human being and must be horribly embarrassed at how her father is behaving. I’m imagining her begging her dad, to pickup the phone to congratulate Biden and drop all the lawsuits and get off Twitter!
I don't, she's had four years of being self-important in a job her Daddy gave her, she has actually achieved nothing, same as her husband, whathisname. At her age she should be able to stand on her own two feet.
StoneofDestiny · 09/11/2020 16:44

Just proves that so many migrants, children of migrants and descendants of migrants can still be anti migrant. It's 'pull the ladder up' mentality.

Likewise, I agree it's sad that even the slightest touch of a child can be seen through perverse eyes. Had the same thing happen when my two were little. An elderly man entered the lift and said 'hello' to my children 'you look like very nice children'. He then promptly apologised for talking to them saying 'you probably don't want them talking to strange old people, I'm sorry'.
How sad.

I think being the wife of the President and First Lady under him (the role does not HAVE to be performed by a wife or partner; it's effectively hostess of the White House) is a fair indication that you agree with his politics.

ancientgran · 09/11/2020 16:47

Ivanka's husband is supposed to be the one telling him to concede. Don't know if it is true.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 09/11/2020 16:48

I feel sorry for her in the sense that no one seems to have any respect for her. No one will ever speak about her in the same way that they speak about former first ladies. That's got to sting a bit.
But people are judged by the company they keep. Our partners (barring abuse situations, obviously) do reflect on us. And Melania chose Donald.

This is what Trump thinks of his daughter - now this is creepy! (From The Independent)

When Donald Trump was watching his 16-year-old daughter Ivanka host the 1997 Miss Teen USA pageant, he turned to the then-Miss Universe and asked: “Don’t you think my daughter’s hot? She’s hot, right?”

That anecdote, told to the New York Times by Brook Antoinette Mahealani Lee, appears to be the first recorded incident of the Republican presidential candidate and reality TV star making comments about his daughter’s body which those present have deemed inappropriate

In the almost 20 years since, Mr Trump has called his eldest daughter “voluptuous”. He’s said it’s OK to describe her as “a piece of ass”, though she is a senior executive in his business empire. And he’s said that, if she wasn’t his daughter, “perhaps [he’d] be dating her”

Frownette · 09/11/2020 16:50

@ShebaShimmyShake I think she got dragged along for the ride Grin

It would be interesting to know if her religion means she's anti divorce.

I'm not keen on Ivanka, she's 'daddy's girl' in a nauseating way and thought she could have free reign over the white house because of it.

TicTacTwo · 09/11/2020 16:54

I think she'll be happy- didn't she renegotiate her prenup when he ran for president and when he decided to run for re-election? I don't feel sorry for her- come Feb/March she's free and can go back to being a lady who lunches again.

I'm surprised that Donald calls her and replies on her advice though. Ivanka having this role wouldn't surprise me but as a couple they come across as 2 individuals with different lives really. Goes to show you never know what happens behind closed doors.

Not sure if this link will work - seriously skin crawling stuff.

ShebaShimmyShake · 09/11/2020 16:55

She did talk about how she supports him in the leaked phone conversation.

I think she understands that supporting him is part of her job as a trophy wife, even if holding his hand isn't.

SBTLove · 09/11/2020 16:56

She supported all the birther nonsense about Obama, she’s just as nasty.
No sympathies, she knew what she was getting into, marrying that vile thing.

RiverMeadow · 09/11/2020 18:00

I bet they sleep in separate bedrooms..

AgathaTabathaBagatha · 09/11/2020 18:18

Zero sympathy. Don't care about her or her "woes" at all.

She visited the kids in cages and wore a jacket that said "I don't care" on it. Who the fuckety fuck does that. She's just as evil as her idiot husband IMO.

Zixxy · 09/11/2020 18:24

Who fkn cares about anything to do with the Trumps. Come on....

Hopefully we have moved on now to a decent, lawful, educated President and family. About bloody time.

Biden and the vaccine gives me hope anyway. Fk Melania and all other celebrities who do nothing for anyone. And breathe out now Zixxy lol.

Frownette · 09/11/2020 18:26

@AgathaTabithaBagatha she wore that boarding the plane to go to the visit as a message to the media who were harassing her, then took it off when she'd boarded.

It really had nothing to do with the children.

ShebaShimmyShake · 09/11/2020 18:31

That's what she claimed. Even if it's true, it was still utterly tone deaf, stupid (how did she think it was going to look?), thin-skinned (you're First Lady, it's a high profile position, deal with it!), undignified and completely unbecoming of her position. Exactly like her orange husband.

Sceptre86 · 09/11/2020 18:36

She married a sexist, racist, misogynist billionaire. Let's be under no doubt which word is in the above sentence is most important to her. She sold herself for money, a visa and status. She has no shame and I have no sympathy for her. If you stand by idle whilst your oh is a shit then you are just as bad. She may not agree with all his views but by standing by his side she condones them.

She has an agreement with him and will profit handsomely. No sympathy here.

Frownette · 09/11/2020 18:47

@ShebaShimmyShake of course it was stupid. I would assume she had blinkered thought at the time.

I'm not a fan of hers but she didn't quite realise what she was marrying into and the attention it would generate. They met when running for president was only a vague noise.

Still can't quite believe he got there...

So what. So while visiting the kids all she was thinking about was her own image and what the media was likely to say about her. Her, her, her. Oh, poor her.

Frownette · 09/11/2020 18:52

I don't think it was image, more defensive at media onslaught

SBTLove · 09/11/2020 18:53

Tbf she’s in for a shock when she tries for a divorce settlement and finds out Donny boy is skint 🤣🤣
